Yesterday, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia was granted a temporary injunction by the nation's Federal Court to block the importation and sale of the new PS3 modchips.

The injunction means that until August 31, none of the modchip's Australian distributors will be able to import, sell or otherwise offload the devices. What's more, they have to take all the stock they already have and leave them with Sony's solicitors until the August 31 deadline passes.

Sony has from now until August 31 to convince the courts that the injunction becomes a more permanent arrangement (temporary injunctions are designed to maintain the "status quo" until a matter can be settled). If they succeed, it'll mean the end of legal sales of the device in Australia, but if they fail, then once September 1 rolls around the chips will be able to go on sale.

This is an interesting development, since a 2005 Supreme Court ruling determined that the sale of modchips was legal in Australia (though Nintendo was recently successful in banning the R4). We've contacted Sony to see how they managed to get around this, and will update if we hear back

Consolewinkel.nl has spoken to the PSJailbreak creators and they basically told them that PSJailbreak is legal and it contains no copyright code – meaning OZmodchips and other retailers have a pretty good case against Sony in the next few days.

To quote:

PSjailbreak is legal and contains no copyright code, that’s what the makers of the device are claiming. In a conversation forwarded to us, a Dutch retailer reveals that the creators of the device are insisting that Sony is just using ‘scare tactics’ to try and make people think twice before selling it. Moreover the creators are claiming that the device was primarily produced for homebrew on the PS3 console.

Unknown: is your price still the same Psjailbreak?

Psjailbreak: Yes

Unknown: companys in Australian get a lot of problems ...Sony Halts Australian ReSellers..this is a big problem

Psjailbreak: It is a temporary injunction until Aug. 31

Psjailbreak: Will be reached then

Psjailbreak: Nothing illegal has been done

Psjailbreak: It is just a scare tactic

Unknown: cracking bootcode of Sony is in all country illegal. we selling consoles now for 10 years..we had problems with Sony aswell

Psjailbreak: There is no copyrighted code, and we have not interfered with any intellectual property law

Psjailbreak: Device is designed for homebrew

Psjailbreak: Nothing illegal

Psjailbreak: Product is designed very well so no problems can arise

Psjailbreak: This product is very different from every other mod

Psjailbreak: NOTHING ILLEGAL

Unkown: yes..but all these shops returning customers money back...people in forums says order cancelled

Psjailbreak: It is just a scare tactic, and it is obviously working

Unknown: it will work in Europe also soon

Psjailbreak: Then everyone will be missing out on lots of profits

Psjailbreak: Too bad for everyone who gets scared easily

Psjailbreak: The strong willed ones will make more now

Unknown: yes but technically shops do not know how the Usb stick works..bootcode or something like that..because of this people scared and they think they cant win..we dont want to take the risk

PSjailbreak: But once you understand you will see nothing to be scared about

Psjailbreak: No copyright infringement

Psjailbreak: No interfere with intellectual property laws

Unknown: okay i will tell people
as with all methods of softmod and hardmod there will always been work arounds legally and for us after its been initially hacked. if your that scared of sony then dont concern yourself with this topic and come back in 6 years when ps4 is around and we been chillen since 2010

lack of news in with this sweet ass development going on.

No PSP port to PSGroove being developed – EAVPSP is Fake

There has been a stir that a PSP port for PSGroove is in development with the name “OpenPSJailbreak”. PS3Hax members, madshaun1984 and dunfyy, have exposed “EAVPSP” as a fake, and that has no idea what he is doing. You can read and laugh at the chat logs HERE. Apparently all EAVPSP was working on was compiling a sample from the PSPSDK and making it look like a fake GUI.

So it seems we are back to ground zero on a PSP port, but rumor has it Mathieulh is working on a PSPGroove port (no confirmation), and there may actually already be a completed PSP port in the wild.

Andriod Port Work-in-Progress for PSGroove
PS3 Hacks, PSGroove , 02.09.2010

With PSgroove out and about, people are busy working on ports to hopefully be ran by other means than just a USB board.

Netzke is working on a port for Andriod phones, he supposedly is getting ready to beta test his port, you can read about his updates on his twitter.
To quote:

Im currently working on a android port of PSj. You can follow my progress on. Look me up on twitter and blogspot.

Currently the only real requirement is that your phone be rooted and running an android OS.

Also this is not limited to just phones. You can also use an android tablet. Or any other device you have that runs Android os. It appears to work on my netbook as well.

I’m very close to producing a fully working bug free app for this.

Reaver from TeknoGods has created a simple application that converts your PS3 ISO’s to PSJailbreak format, allowing it to be ran with backup manager.

To quote from readme:

==Usage==
1. Run tool
2. Open your backup .iso
3. Make folder called GAMEZ in your external USB HDD
4. Extract ISO in GAMEZ (do not make any subfolders!)
5. Run Backup Manager on PS3 with USB HDD plugged in
6. Play

==NOTE!==
Required: Jailbreaked PS3 with backups enabled, External USB HDD

==Support==
This release is beta quality. If something breaks, review any
pertinent comments on teknogods.com, then email me as a last resort.
Include all log files and a detailed description of problem and
how to reproduce it.
NOT really working or something atm but we all know it will very soon

PSGroove Working with BlackCat USB! (Video inside)
PS3 Hacks, PSGroove , 02.09.2010

Still hunting for a USB development board? Making your own not appealing? Well Youtube user ThinnPikkins has uploaded a video on youtube running PSGroove with BlackCatUSB (v1.2+).

chesteruhi has provided the necessary HEX file to use for this you can download it below.

To quote:

All BlackcatUSBs (from version 1.2 on) use the same micro controller (AT90USB162) and use the same software, drivers, and avr firmware. The only difference in the pcb versions is cosmetic.

So the BlackcatUSBs will all work no need to worry which one your buying, I have confirmed this. So purchase away before there all gone!

You can buy a BlackCatUSB here.

That costs money smart ass, if you buy used games from gamestop you can return them and get a refund everytime (30 day policy)
Relax. Unless a person lives within walking distance of a gamestop your plan doesn't make sense. Factor in gas to get where you're going, and the fact you are going to raise alarms by coming in every other day to return a used game and it simply isn't worth it. Just gamefly your games, dump em, repeat the process. $8-$15.

And yes I'm a smart ass.

Used games from Gamestop have a 7 day return policy. New games unopened have a 30 day return policy SMH
Yeah your probably right, I should of checked first, but I knew for sure there is a return policy for a full refund.

Well, I just thought it would be a better idea to save that 10$ everytime. Also, if you live in a city I'm sure theres a gamestop within 5 miles where you live (mine is under a mile)
and if your worried and returning games so frequently:
1. Hit it up at different times when they change shifts
2. Send in a friend or family member to return it for you, they don't monitor these games that closely lmao
3. If you want to get crazy with it and you live far away from a gamestop, get about 20 friends and buy a shitload of used games, take them all back to get your money back..you just saved about 125+$ (after gas) lol

Despite the fact that a 2005 Supreme Court ruling determined that video game console modchips were legal under Australian law, the nation's Federal Court has ruled that the new PS3 Jailbreak modchips are to be outlawed down under.

Earlier this week, a temporary block on the sale of the devices was ordered, but yesterday the Federal Court determined that the ban is to be made permanent.

All devices currently in the country are to be handed over to the courts, the four retailers named in the suit must hand the profits made from preorder sales over and they must also pay the legal fees associated with the case.

It's the second time this year an Australian court has banned the sale of a console modification device, following a decision in February to bar sales of the R4 cartridge for the Nintendo DS.
