PACQUIAO SHOWS OLD SPEED AND POWER IN TRAINING

GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Manny Pacquiao will come out smokin’ from the opening bell on when he fights reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Timothy Bradley on March 12 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
This is how chief trainer Freddie Roach foresees his favorite pupil’s performance after receiving an advanced birthday gift from Pacquiao by way of another sterling show in his six-round sparring with Lydell Rhodes Tuesday.

“We’re preparing him to put up an unrelenting attack from the opening bell until his hands are raised in victory,” Roach confided. “And it looks like Manny’s responding well to our program.”

Displaying the speed and power that catapulted him to top position in the world’s pound-for-pound list, the 35-year-old threw crispy combinations, which Roach himself said he has never seen in their 13-year-parnership, that often caught his unbeaten sparring partner flatfooted.

“I’ve never seen him threw that many combinations since he walked in to my (Wild Card) gym and asked me to train him more than 10 years ago,” Roach, who is celebrating his 54 birth anniversary today, confessed to this writer after the energy-sapping session.

“And to think that this is only our second week of sparring,” Roach, who arrived Sunday last week to take over the training program, said. “He’ll still improve when we get to Los Angeles where he will meet three more of my guys to help him.”

Roach was referring to junior-welterweight Kendall Holt, Steve Forbes and a Mexican guy named Speedy Gonzales, who, as his name connotes will provide the eight-division world champion additional speed.

“Birthday gift ko kay Freddie na maganda ang ensayo ko ngayon,” Pacquiao himself said in a separate interview before plunging into action into a few basketball games he regularly do to supplement his stamina-building regimen.

“Everything that we expect Bradley to bring into the table, we will have an answer,” Roach, a five-time trainer of the year honoree of the Boxing Writers Association of America said by way of disclosing the kind of training he charted.

Holt, a former WBO junior-welter titlist (28-6 with 15 knockouts) will be out to add power to Pacquiao’s already lethal arsenal, while Forbes (35-12 with 11 KOs) will provide the Filipino boxing skills similar to Bradley’s.

A pair of six-round more skirmishes with Rhodes Thursday and Saturday, complemented by roadwork on Wednesday and Friday plus 10 to 15 rounds on the mitts complete Pacquiao’s final week at the GenSan.

Pacquiao, Roach and the team fly by a private plane loaned to him by bosom friend Chavit Singson to Manila Saturday afternoon in time to catch a Philippine Air Lines flight to Los Angeles evening of the same day.

“Yeah, we will stay workout on Saturday before enplaning to Manila then to L.A. on the same day,” Pacquiao confirmed. “If possible kasi, hindi kasi dapat magkaroon ng two-day rest a week ang ensayo baka kalawangin. Sundays are our normal rest days ever since.”

The biggest problem for Manny Pacquiao against Timothy Bradley is that Bradley doubles and triples his jab...and that is where the fight is won or lost. That jab allows Tim to get off first...unless...Pacquiao manages to stay on the inside and make it a wild swinging affair.

PACQUIAO HIT BY JET LAG, SKIPS WILD CARD WORKOUT

By Ronnie Nathanielsz

“Fighter of the Decade” Manny Pacquiao was supposed to start his up-tempo grind for his much-awaited rematch against WBO welterweight champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 12, but the eight division champion was hit by jet lag and was forced to skip working out at the Wild Card Gym of trainer Freddie Roach yesterday.

Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz told the Manila Standard that Pacquiao who reunited with former strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune and one-time heavyweight contender who fought champion Lennox Lewis “ran this morning (at Griffith Park in Los Angeles) and has been sleeping the rest of the day” after jetlag hit him.

Pacquiao is expected to buckle down to business on Tuesday (LA Time) which is normally set aside as a day for sparring.
Roach who was pleased with Pacquiao’s condition when he spent two weeks with him in GenSan indicated that “the real business begins on Monday at Wild Card” pointing out that he had lined up some “great sparring waiting for Manny” but it had to be pushed back by a day.

Among those Roach has picked are former world junior welterweight champion Kendall Holt, former lightweight champion Steve Forbes and Speedy Gonzales.

Roach told the Manila Standard that Holt who lost his title to reigning welterweight champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley despite dropping Bradley once in the opening round and once in the last round “likes to sometimes engage and will give us the power.”

Speedy Gonzales, as his name implies will be there to hone Pacquiao’s already potent hand-speed while Forbes will provide Manny “the best look as a boxer besides being an intelligent fighter.”

Roach made it clear that Pacquiao “wants that title back and if Bradley thinks he’s going to see the same compassionate Manny he saw the first time they fought, he is in for a very big surprise.”

Pacquiao told us he is focused on the task ahead and is “determined to bring back the aggressiveness and perfect my timing, speed and movement.”

With a month to go before his eagerly awaited rematch with Bradley, Pacquiao said “what I am trying to do this time around is to bring back the young Manny Pacquiao to prove that I am still young, an elite fighter and my time is not done yet.”

Bradley trainer unimpressed with Pacquiao win vs Rios

ABS-CBNnews.com

Timothy Bradley’s trainer downplayed Manny Pacquiao’s performance against Brandon Rios last November, saying it was far from a spectacular performance from the former pound-for-pound king.

Joel Diaz, speaking to Tha Boxing Voice, said the Pacquiao who competed against Rios was far from the Pacquiao who ripped through Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto and Oscar De La Hoya earlier in his career.

“I didn’t see a spectacular Manny Pacquiao against Brandon Rios,” said Diaz. “Even Brandon Rios said he didn’t hurt him – it was just his speed.”

Pacquiao, fighting for the first time in nearly a year, thoroughly dominated Rios last November in Macau on his way to a unanimous decision victory.

“I remember when he (Pacquiao) fought Margarito, he crushed his face. When he fought Cotto, he broke his face. With De La Hoya, he demolished him,” said Diaz.

“All of a sudden with Rios, he’s not doing any damage,” noted the trainer.

Diaz is preparing Bradley to beat the odds when he faces off against Pacquiao for the second time on April 12. Bradley infamously defeated Pacquiao in their first meeting in June 2012, but that decision was widely derided in boxing circles.

“Tim has grown after going to war with (Ruslan) Provodnikov and outpointing the guy that knocked out Manny Pacquiao (Juan Manuel Marquez),” Diaz claimed.

“We’re going to fight against all odds, and we’re going to defeat those odds,” he added.

The point is Manny Pacquiao was obviously on ROIDS when he fought those other guys. Because he hasn't been the same since.
Nice logic. I mean, it's not like Pacquiao was coming off a one year layoff after getting KTFO prior to Rios or anything.

And yeah, Rios took no damage at all, none:

Manny Pacquiao hasn't been the same ever since Timothy Bradley whooped his ass. Manuel Marquez just put the finishing touches on him. But Timothy Bradley will finish the job, for good on April 12th. I cant wait to see Manny Pacquiao's funeral, I'll be smiling the whole time, while Filipinos will be crying. They also will be paying up because I bet about 10 of them(easy money for me) The Boxing God is going to punish Manny Pacquiao for taking those ROIDS, and he is going to use Timothy Bradley as his instrument.

Lol @ Bradley whooped his ass! He whooped him so bad everyone thought Pacquiao won, apparently.

Anyways, as for the upcoming rematch Bradley may very well beat him as I don't know how much Pac has left. He's been a pro since 15 years of age, he's 35 now and was in some wars. He's got a lot of mileage

Please, NO EXCUSES, say that to Floyd Mayweather Jr and Bernard Hopkins. They take care of their bodies, the right way, No ROIDS. Just hard work and dedication.

How is it obvious he was on roids when those fights go back at LEAST four years?lol
Manny Pacquiao turned down the Biggest Fight in Boxing History with Floyd Mayweather Jr because he didn't want to take a drug test. Even claimed "I don't like needles" when he has tattoos, lol. If that doesn't tell you Pac Man was juiced up, then I don't know what to say to you. It would be a waste of my time, like talking to a Brick Wall, lol.

They are defensive fighters. Pacquiao is an offensive fighter. Obviously a defensive fighter takes less shots then an offensive fighter.

Marvin Hagler was in phenomenal shape and he retired at 32. Roy Jones was essentially 50-0 at the age of 35 and was KOd by Tarver, never the same again.

Hopkins is also an Alien.

Actually Pacquiao never said he didn't like needles so I don't know why you put that in quotes. That is something Bob Arum said, not Pacquiao.

It doesn't tell me anything because I am not sure about the needle claim.
