Obviously Mayweather is great, that goes without saying. One of the greatest of our time.

With that said the pressure is now on Mayweather to really make or break his legacy. He needs to fight the winner of pac/cotto and/or shane mosley next. Anything else is a complete disrespect to the sport of boxing and us fans.

Mayweather & some of his fans don't realize that when you're considered the best, constantly call yourself the greatest of all time, different standards are applied to you. The fans & historians will demand great accomplishments & risk taking for him to be considered an all time great.

That's why people like bernard hopkins & pacquiao as of right now, would be ranked higher on the all time great list, even though they've both lost a few & mayweather hasn't. It's about resumes and floyd's resume needs some more work.

Look at Sugar Ray Leonard. he was retired for THREE YEARS and his first fight back was against the bigger, stronger & greatest Middleweight champion of all time in Marvin Hagler, who was 62-1 at the time. People literally thought Leonard could die in the ring. That was a risk for Leonard to move UP from Welterweight to Middleweight after a 3 year layoff. Floyd has a two year layoff and fights a guy two weight divisions smaller than him.

Bernard Hopkins lost twice to Jermain Taylor at the age of 40. People thought he was done, he was too old, but instead of retiring he goes up TWO wight classes at 40 years of age and fights The Man of the Light Heavyweight division in Antonio Tarver, who was coming off of wins over Roy Jones & Glen Johnson. Bhop was a 4-1 underdog and people were predicting the old man would get KO'd for the first time in his career. That's a risk.

I don't even have to talk about Pacquiao and all the risks he's taken throughout his career.

Floyd simply needs to take more risks, period.

The main thing is that almost all of Mayweather's wins can have excuses and handicaps right next to it. They can all be watered down. Obviously every fighter has that, but that is pretty much his entire resume.

Mike Tyson is a big star, doesn't mean he will sell PPV's.

Not as many people go to see Manny as people think. All the Marquez, MAB, Morales, fights...those were pro Mexican crowds. DLH brought the crowd. Hatton brought the UK. Cotto is bringing Puerto Rico and any hispanic.

It's these people that make the difference in the PPV numbers. It's definitely not the Asian's doing all the PPV numbers.

Manny vs Floyd would do big numbers.
I just think Cotto vs Floyd would do just as much, and probably more. If he beats Manny, of course.
I can agree with most of this post, except for "Cotto is bringing Puerto Rico and any hispanic."

Depending on if you're counting Dominicans and Cubans as the same as Mexicans and Columbians, which you may count the same as Peruvians and Nicaraguans...

MOST Mexicans would support Manny over Cotto, IMO.

Mayweather won't fight Pacman because there is the chance he would lose. Boxing has gone to shit, I literally can't think of a fight I would pay to watch.
Huh.

You're missing out.

Obviously I'm not willing to shell out 40-50 bucks every 2-3 weeks like MMA wants me to, but I could name about 10 fights I'd pay to see. But that's just me.

I think a lot of them would. Pacquiao is a legit crossover star; whites, mexicans, blacks, asians... he's got fans all over.

People are excited about Pacquiao and people who like boxing, no matter race, will order this PPV or at least watch it somewhere because everyone knows it's going to be a war.

Yes, a decent amount of them would because of the rivalry between Mexico and PR.

If it was Manny vs some Korean guy, would those same Mexican's buy the PPV? Probably not.

Its what's behind the 0 that matters more than the 0 itself.

Compare Mayweather's opposition faced to someone like Oscar De la Hoya...I mean, sure Oscar lost all of his biggest fights, but the fact that he took those fights and faced the who's who of our generation speaks for more than a punk ass 0.

To downplay the Corrales win is ridiculous .. after losing to Mayweather, Corrales win on to win the lineal 135lb strap beating Casamayor, Popo & JLC in a fight of the century. He was nowhere near the bottom of the hill he just wasn't close to how high Mayweather was.

When does he run? He tried to fight mosley and mosley came with the excuses. He's going to fight pac or cotto so where is the running. You cats act like mayweather is supposed to just jump up and fight everybody that has his name in there mouth like asap. It takes planning and promotion.. Somebody is going to get there chance after this fight thats what we do know. So lets take it one fight at a time people

The rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico doesn't have as much to do with it as you may think. Mexicans RESPECT Manny Pacquiao now, and support him. I do. I used to hate the guy, because he was beating up Morales, Barrera, etc., but you can't help but love the guy. He fights like those same (Mexican) fighters. He's a fucking warrior, and exciting to watch.

I'm giving Cotto as much of a chance to win this fight as Manny, but I just don't see him doing it. Manny's too fast.

Cowboys Stadium could be site if Pacquiao-Mayweather boxing match comes to pass

10:23 PM CST on Thursday, November 5, 2009

By CARLOS A. NAVA / Al Día
[email protected]

IRVING – North Texas boxing fans would have a chance to see two of the sport's best if Cowboys officials and promoter Top Rank can nail down a March showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. at Cowboys Stadium.

Bruce Trampler, vice president for Top Rank, said the company is trying to organize a boxing card at the new Arlington stadium that would include championship fights.

"Bob Arum [Top Rank's president] has spoken directly to Jerry Jones. This would be an impressive site to hold a historical boxing event," Trampler said in a phone interview.

Pacquiao, a four-time world champion who currently holds the light welterweight crown from the World Boxing Council, is scheduled to fight World Boxing Organization welterweight champ Manny Cotto on Nov. 14 in Las Vegas.

If Pacquiao prevails, promoters would then attempt to arrange a March fight against Mayweather in Arlington, Trampler said.

"Pacquiao is very interested in fighting there [in Cowboys Stadium]," Trampler said. "We would definitely try to schedule a fight with Mayweather in March, which is something fans have been waiting to see for some time."

Brett Daniels, director of corporate communications for Cowboys Stadium, said the Cowboys organization is interested in the project.

"We've had some initial contacts. Nothing's for sure yet, but it's something we've always had in mind, and that's why we're holding talks," he said.

If the Pacquiao-Mayweather match is secured, Top Rank would then seek to arrange several undercard fights, including one featuring Dallas prospect Roberto Marroquin, Trampler said.

"It would be Roberto's first pay-per-view event. We hope all the cards fall into place, because we're sure it's going to be a successful event," Trampler said.

The last big fight in Dallas took place in 2006 at American Airlines Center. In it, Evander Holyfield defeated Jeremy Bates in a non-title bout.
