how were the results? does it get you beasty?
I started at 205.. I got to about 185. I didnt get hella ripped, and its because I didnt follow the diet.. but I am content and happy with how I felt.
I never did pull ups - Now I can hit 20 pull ups, 25 chin ups, and working on muscle ups. That was my goal.
As for strength.. Once I got down the routine, I just took it to the gym (the weight training part). It got to the point that I was doing the routine and adding in other exercises.
For instance, when it came to Chest/shoulders/triceps, I did a rotator cuff routine, hit the bench(incline/decline) and Pec Fly machine/rear delt fly machine).
I got so addicted to working out, I started to do other things. On the non resistance days, like yoga x/ plyo X/ Kenpo X - I did grip training working on crushing grip, finger curls, pinch grip... anything lower arm. I also did alot of conditioning.. alot of uphill sprints and more body weight training (bodyweightculture.com) like push ups, pull ups, bw dips... I got into parkour conditioning and even more sport specific drills (cone drills, medicine ball plyometrics, jump rope).
I kinda missed the intense p90x routines.. but I've had Insanity just chilling since it came out.. so I started to do that. I also picked up Rev Abs, which what I'm doubling with Insanity.
As for getting ripped.. it happens. I didnt follow the diet, I just ate clean and watched what I ate. But I didnt get the great results. The first month, Ab ripper X was a no go. I never really worked my abs hards.. so when I did ab ripper X, I would cramp up... was frustrated the first 30 days because of it... but eventually got it down. A combination of weak ab muscles and low vitamin levels were the cause. I still cant do 25 fifer scissors.
Before P90x, I was at they gym, just lifting heavy. No goals no nothing.. just plateauing...
At they gym, people wanna be "body builder strong".. while P90x makes you "Athletic strong".. hence various different workouts.
Even though I lifted heavy, P90x was a great base program for other things in general.. yoga, pilates, low impact cardio.... shit that most people wont care of doing. It opened my mind to other types of fitness and it changed my view of fitness.
I will eventually go back to P90x after I've done Insanity and Rev Abs. Also tryna hit my 100 push ups goal (
