Alternative/Indie Pop/Rock, Soul, Reggea, Electronica, Jazz, Classical, Funk, Hip-Hop etc.

I also listen to a lot of scores, especially stuff Ennio Morricone did.

When it comes to hip-hop I prefer intelligent hip-hop (like Aesop Rock, Mr.Lif, J-Live, Sage Francis, Mos Def etc).
As I've become older I'm getting tired of "party" hip-hop and gangsta rap.

2-0-SIXX,
IT'S A CULTURAL THANg. BAK IN THE 80'S I REMEMBER HOW A LOT OF CHICANO'S LEFT RAP TO INDULgE IN ROK AND ALL THAT AND USE TO CLOWN RAP AND THE HIP-HOP CULTURE LIKE IT WAS A FAD. BUT THEY DIDN'T EXPECT US TO LAST THIS LONg. NOW EVERYBODY'S ON THE NUTS.

ILLUSION,
YOU SOMEWHAT RIgHT. BUT I FEEL LIKE I'M REPEATIN' MYSELF. JUST KNOW THAT IT'S RELATED TO THE INTEgRITY OF THE MUSIC. I FEEL IF YOU WANNA BE IN THE HIP-HOP CULTURE THAN YOU SHOULD BE REAL WITH IT AND DON'T TREAT IT AS A TREND OR A FAD, NAMELY PICCIN' IT AND PUTTIN' IT DOWN LIKE IT'S A BOOK. CAUSE THEN YOU WAS NEVA REAL FROM JUMP AND SHOULD OF NEVA LISTENED AND INDULgE IN THE MUSIC OR CULTURE.

EDJ: Can't someone just live the best of both worlds? I have much love for hip-hop music and culture, I always will, but I have grown into liking other things as well. I haven't changed so much as a person, just my taste in music.

Have you ever tried listening to any thing in the rock genre? Try listening to Linkin Park or some hip-hip influenced band for starters, you might like it. Go download, Linkin Park - High Voltage (Remix). I'll even send the song to you if you give me an e-mail addy.

Just listen to THAT song inparticular, I don't think it even has a giutar in it. It's not the same singer as the one who screams on most of the songs, it's done by the guy who does the background vocals. Just listen to it, I bet you'll like it.

Linkin Park - High Voltage (Remix)

It's not on the album you burned for your homie. It's a very good song -- it actually touchs on the evolution of rock and rap.

You should also add Ravenous and The Good, The Bad & The Ugly to that list.

Thomas Newman is one of my favourite composers though, I used to watch the intro of Boston Public just because of the theme song.

lmao @ EDJ having to swallow pride to burn a CD...

Thread just full of comedy.
I think the only comedy in this thread was in your post, because nobody else is laughing. Linkin Park is not music? Break it on down then. How is this octuple platinum selling band not making music? I have met a lot of metal heads and plain old "oh once it hits mainstream I can't listen to it, because I have to be different" type of people, but you are silent with your reasons.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Backstreet Boys also sold a shitload of records, that doesn't mean the music isn't shitty.

Even my 14-month old nephew thinks Linkin Park is childish look-at-me-my-girlfriend-dumped-me-and-i'm-about-the-break-and-i'm-in-pain music that he wouldn't listen to even if someone put a gun to his head.

And it definitley does not mean it is shitty, if numbers said anything, it would say the music is good. I used to go through all the "I hate certain music" issues, but I have grown since. Do I like that Back Street Boys? Hell naw. Do I like Linkin Park? There not bad. I just pointed out one song not even released on an album and kids wanna get funny.

Wow, your nephew? They must be a shitty band then.

Usually when people attack something like this, they are closet fans who are mad they can't roll down the streets with windows down, and enjoy the feeling they get as people stare and wonder "who is that band?!". Now you have every groupie on the streets playing this music because it's cool, so you took a step back, put down the CD, and looked up the next new cool music group.

Linkin Log is a shitty mix of rock and rap. The rap is shit, and its rapped by a white nerd.

The rock is lame, and the lyrics are about at par with Limp Bizkit in terms of depth. I dont mind "get crunk, shake yo big ass" if it's coming from a rapper, because I can simply set in relief the milieu from which that music originates.

However, "One thing, I don't know why, it doesn't even matter how hard you try"...lmao. They lack any real legitimacy as a band. You like Lacuna Coil so I won't completely discount your taste, but Linkin Hill are the WWF of metal.

I'm not a big fan of Linkin Park; I think Hybrid Theory was a good album, and Meteora is okay, I don't own either one. I picked this band because of the song, it is basically a hip-hop song with little to no resemblance of rock and roll. I'm not gonig to say hey EDJ, why don't you try some rock music, here's a slipknot song.. that shit will traumatize his ass. Linkin Park is one of the reasons I listen to metal music. I was strictly 100% Bay/Sac rap and hip-hop until I heard them, they created a bridge to other music for myself. Since then my taste has far surpassed that of Linkin Park.
