I laugh how people think making beats is a cinch just because they downloaded FL and fucked with it for a few days and figured out how to build patterns and loop them. Yeah, that'll get the job done, but to create something of creativity and quality there is a more intricate process to go through. I'm not sitting here and saying I'm a dope producer who knows it all, because I know I'm not. Beat making is a hobby, and if I might say, a skill that I've been developing since i was 13 years old and I find it ridiculous that people think that "there's nothing to it but downloading FL Studio and spending a few days learning it."

I mean...I can draw stick figures all fucking day but that don't mean drawing something of quality is easy. There's a difference between using a program to make beats and using a program to integrate music theory to make beats.

Smitty, you don't gotta explain nothing to nobody. You're doing something that you enjoy. They can't take that from you. Even if they think they can type something that can. If people wanna waste their time being smart asses or suggesting how you should change your life then whatever. What I heard from you isn't EXTREMELY GREAT, but it's not BY any means terrible. I interested to hear what you can do. I mean If I don't like it, I'm not gonna waste my time bashing you or going out of my way to tell you how fucking stupid i think you are and blah blah blah because I got better things to do; like live my life.

Fucc em. Stay Up.

Don't get all butthurt, sir.

I'm sorry if I don't think what you do is terribly hard. I know people in bands that play real instruments, so sitting behind at computer making rap beats doesn't necessarily impress me. I wasn't knocking what you do so much as suggesting that Smitty worry less about spending tons of money on beats and focus more on improving his rap skill.

Most of the greatest beats are just loops anyhow. Biggie didn't need Rubonyx beats to make dope albums. Just because mainstream shit is all house music now doesn't mean you have to ask John Digweed to produce your track.

3 minutes of loops does not equal 300 dollars to me, especially if you're not going to see it back. Ten thousand dollars to make a fucking wack record? I feel bad because I know Smitty is a cool dude but... nobody's trying to hear that shit. I'm not even saying this in reference to just him, I mean any up and coming rapper, or anyone trying to fund their own albums.

Tech can beat on his chest for free and still be a dope rapper.

I respect wanting to put out dope shit, but you can do it for free.

I agree with you that I would save tons of money if I knew how to create beats myself. I agree 100%. Making beats is something that I just don't have the patience for. That is my own fault and that is why I pay the prices. Do I think they should be this expensive? By no means. But, just like with many other things...prices are prices. And in the world of buying beats, typically the $50 beats don't sound as good as the $300 ones. Sometimes it's the quality, sometimes it's how complex it is. Most of the time it is both. I actually have a $50 beat for this album. It sounds good, but it's very simple. I don't enjoy spending $300 for a beat, but if I'm really feeling it and it suits me, I pay the price. I would just rather pay the price than to settle for beats that don't even come close to industry standard. That is why this is my last album man. I'm spending around $10,000 for my albums. I understand that's outlandish, it's an expensive hobby. That is why this is my last album. I told myself I'll quit making music before I put out a shitty quality of music and that's exactly what I'm doing. The fact that an artist like myself with absolutely no backing whatsoever can put out a product that is completely packaged in a similar fashion to an artist that has a major label deal should be respected across the table, regardless if my music is someone's cup of tea or not.

You shouldn't have to spend 10g's on a album for the level you're at... that's just ridiculous... If you're going to spend that kind of money, buy the equipment and learn how to record, mix, and produce... Pressing doesn't cost nearly what it did 2-3 years ago, and graphic artists are everywhere...

I'm really not too worried about people buying the album man. I mean I know that probably sounds retarded because that is typically why people rap, but I'm making this album so people can hear what I like to do. When I did the first album I thought tons of people were gonna buy it...didn't happen. So, knowing that, I decided to do one last album regardless of what I get back. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to make some money back, but to even break even I'd have to sell every copy I'm pressing up for $10 each. That isn't gonna happen by a long shot. But that's also why this is my last album, so I'm not putting anymore money into music. I feel I'll be content with this last album. I'll sell it for the first couple months it's out, but I'll end up giving away copies after that. I've got a very small core audience and I'm happy that they like my stuff. The more the merrier, but I can't please everybody. As long as people are bumpin my shit in my hometown, I'm happy.

Also, I'm making albums because if I'm going to spend 30 hours in the studio recording a mixtape, I'd just assume spend 50 hours in the studio and have all original material to give to people.

Pressing my albums up are only like a grand. My design guy is very reasonable...around 500 for a packaged deal. That shit isn't the expensive stuff. It's the beats, studio time, and mastering. And I'm not trying to do this after this album as I said before...so I'm not looking to buy equipment and all that shit. Just because you think I'm not worth a shit, doesn't mean I'm gonna half ass my shit. 10,000 is entry-level when it comes to making albums. So, I'm not going to do less than that. I'm not gonna record myself and mix my own shit. I want a professional sound, so I'm a paying the price. Just because I'm not your cup of tea doesn't mean my shit isn't clean.
oh and lemme know when u finish that ha ha shit if i can get a peek at it.
You got it man, I'll let ya hear it as soon as I get it done. I been writing some funny shit 2 that beat. Oh and thanks for saying I'm not terrible lmao I mean, we're on a forum for what I consider to be one of the greatest rap artists of all time...I don't expect people to love my shit on here. lol I seriously think everybody on here believes that I think I'm the shit and that my music rocks. Gimme a break, I'm harder on myself than anybody can ever be to me. I'm always knockin' on my shit when I hear people playin' it. But they like it. To each their own. I'm not fuckin' naive. Obviously I'm a devoted Tech fan...how could I listen to my stuff and remotely think it compares? I don't and never would I think that...but I still enjoy making music and giving it to the people that like it as well.
