In other words, what's in your McDonald's budget.
You know what happens when you assume right? Knock it off. I believe me and you are in the same tax bracket sir. I might be a bit ahead of you. If you go back to page 4 mr thread resurrecter, you can see that I don't want to pay over $300 for a beat. I just bought a beat for $250. There's no reason a nobody like me has to pay YungFyre or Seven a $1000 for a beat when I can get quality beats for $300 or less that are almost (if not) as good.

I'll continue on my drunken way, making my $600 a week(that's good for a fucker living in the Ozarks), working 50 hours a week.
Yep, we are at about the same income, but I only have to work 36 hours a week (3 days) for it. Now what was it you were getting at?

I'm working on my next album and I'm looking to buy some beats from some decent producers. I'm not a rich ass dude, so I don't want to spend over $300 for a beat. I know there are plenty of good beats out there for this price, so don't bitch at me about how you think that's lowball...If you guys know of anybody, hit me up with the producer's Soundclick or MySpace or whatnot.

Also, I'm just looking for some beats here, please don't turn this into a "oh you need to quit rapping, you suck" thread. Thank ya kindly!! :)
Download Fruity Loops and make your own beats. It isn't too hard if you put a few days into learning it.

If I were a rapper I'd never pay for beats. They're available for free everywhere.

And you would never drop an album then. You'd be doing mixtapes. That's how it works.

As far as making beats, come on Zero. Making quality beats is quite complex. Please DO go download fruity loops and see what your beats sound like after a couple days. I figured you of all people wouldn't make ignorant statements like that.

What the fuck are you talking about sir? You're going to spend three hundred dollars for three minutes of computer generated loops but I'm ignorant?

Making beats isn't rocket science regardless of what some people around here would have you believe. I've downloaded FL, I've made a few beats, I lost interest. If you've ever fucked around with MTV Music Generator on playstation then you can grasp fruity loops pretty quickly. There are tons of very good tutorials online for it also.

I just don't get why you're going to pay upwards of 300 for a beat when you won't sell a single copy of your record? You can loop a beat of someone beating on a fucking box and you'll be dope if you're a good rapper. You're going to spend half your paycheck on a three minute loop you could have made yourself so you can rap poorly over it?

I've heard your music dude...

I dunno there are hungry fuckin' people in the world and you want to spend 300 bucks on a fucking beat nobody's going to hear...

Whatever dude. To each his own. I'm just saying GOOD beats aren't being made the way you are talking about. It's not happening. Simple as that. Quality beats are expensive for a reason. I know producers that make beats from scratch. Lots of people make shitty beats. You can get beats real cheap and they sound like complete shit...full of static. I take my shit very seriously and I want my material to be on point. Regardless of what your personal opinion of my music is, I want my stuff to be of higher caliber than the other dudes selling their cd in the mall for 5 bucks. If I'm going to half-ass the production on my album, I might as well half ass every other aspect of it as well. Sure, I don't sell many records...but how would anybody if they didn't put forth the effort to put out a quality product? That's how you DO get noticed. Even if my music isn't getting to the masses, it doesn't mean I should give less of a fuck about it.

I've heard your shit, sir.

The beats weren't the problem.
Exactly...cuz my beats were on point. This go around, they will be even more so. But, that's what I want. If someone isn't going to like my music...I WANT it to be because they don't like how I rap. Not because of the quality of the record. And once again, to each his own. I guarantee there are some artists that you absolutely adore that I think are garbage and vice versa.

I just feel like... You can spend a ton of money on a large canvas, and still cover it in shit, whereas someone else can create the coolest piece of art on a piece of looseleaf paper.

There are some beats out there that anyone could rap over and sound at least decent (Like Woah), but... I'm just sayin you're payin 2-300 a shot for beats... how many songs are you gonna put on the album? 12-13?

Shit dude. For that much money you can buy a good program and a dude to teach it to you.

I agree with you that I would save tons of money if I knew how to create beats myself. I agree 100%. Making beats is something that I just don't have the patience for. That is my own fault and that is why I pay the prices. Do I think they should be this expensive? By no means. But, just like with many other things...prices are prices. And in the world of buying beats, typically the $50 beats don't sound as good as the $300 ones. Sometimes it's the quality, sometimes it's how complex it is. Most of the time it is both. I actually have a $50 beat for this album. It sounds good, but it's very simple. I don't enjoy spending $300 for a beat, but if I'm really feeling it and it suits me, I pay the price. I would just rather pay the price than to settle for beats that don't even come close to industry standard. That is why this is my last album man. I'm spending around $10,000 for my albums. I understand that's outlandish, it's an expensive hobby. That is why this is my last album. I told myself I'll quit making music before I put out a shitty quality of music and that's exactly what I'm doing. The fact that an artist like myself with absolutely no backing whatsoever can put out a product that is completely packaged in a similar fashion to an artist that has a major label deal should be respected across the table, regardless if my music is someone's cup of tea or not.

Why not just quit while you're ahead then?
Well, I decided to put out one last album. My last album was very generic and I wasn't really familiar with a lot of areas as far as making the music. I didn't know all the files I needed as far as beats, I didn't know who to work with in the studio, I didn't know who to go to for design work, I didn't know about paying royalties, I didn't know about tons of shit. Now, I'm more familiar with how it works and I want to put out something more personal. I feel that I've improved in my writing ability as well as my delivery. Overall, this album should be better. I'm working with better beats, a better engineer, and probably even better featured artists. But this is it. At times I feel like I should've given up after my last album, but I feel like I will be content after this one is finished. And, if two quality albums don't get me anywhere, then nothing probably will.

And you're funding these albums on your own? At 10,000 a shot?
Yes sir. I started making my last album back in 2006 when I was working at Chilli's making $9 an hour. It was fuckin' hard to pay bills and make music, so that is why it took me 3 years to complete the project. Also, not knowing how everything worked didn't help the matter. My design guy alone delayed the album almost 4 months. Now, I work for a respectable company and am blessed to make close to 3 times what I was making then. I started this album in January and it should be completed by Christmas. Which means this album will only have taken a year to finish due to financial stability and my knowledge of how the process works.

I'm not happy that it has costed me this much money, but while many of my friends were out at the movies or buying clothes and stuff, I was buying beats and writing. I did without a lot of stuff so I could make music. So, in a sense, I was just spending money on that instead of other "normal" stuff. But I definitely think about the stuff I could've spent the money on. I have a new track on this album that talks about how I could've paid my car off or bought a bunch of nice stuff, but it was my choice not to.
