being from and currently living in the "dertty dertty" i would have to agree. i posted the same thing on another site. the down south stuff has basically replaced house music in the clubs and thats what they go for when they cook up a track, THE BEAT. yeah, other cats did the same thing but at least you could distinguish one track from the other. this stuff has started to sound alike no matter who on the track. i give props to the west for not changing there sound to fit in as some new york peeps did. i'm all for a west coast resurgence right about now. the south had its creative moments but it's just all sounding the same these days with a few exceptions. having lived in socal i just prefer the west coast sound. hell even skeelo came up with with more sensible lyrics than this shit.
I smell ya...

...it's gotta be said...50's just mad because these cats is taking "his" bread and getting oscars n shit...he couldn't be broke in a year if he spent 100 g's a day and this mo'fuckas mad because those dirty cats are selling...

...me? I don't listen to that shit for no reason, because it's not what I'm into...but I ain't mad at those fools...they realized they had the next best thing going and ran with that shit...this is the nature of "the industry"...meaning the record bizness...not to be confused with "hip hop"...

...is it hurting hip hop??? NO...I REPEAT...NO!! Its helps make a bigger distinction between commercial music and true hip hop...real hip hop is now an acquired taste(translate that as an "old and sophisticated, artsy type thang") and will never again generate the type of hype and record sales as it once did...

...cats have been making the argument that commercial rap hurts hip hop for years (decades even), and the shit is getting old...give it up...

...really though, hip hop is an art form and when done right the shit is the best to me, but it will never make the revenels that commercial shit is doing...thats my $0.02...

There is a time and place for every form of rap music, whether it be thought provoking, or something to just dance to, just like peoples moods are different at different times, there is probably a form of rap/Hip Hop to cater to that mood IMO

People keep forgetting that Music itself is entertainment... Nothing Wrong with making Club Music... That's 1 area of rap... Gansta Rap is music for Ganstas to relate to... Mainstream Rap is for the Masses... Underground Rap is for the backpackers... etc... Good Music is good music... Is like Rock... You got Punk Rock, Alternative Rock, Heavy Metal shit... etc... Rap Music has gotten so big and some many people from different areas are doing it that is only right for Rap Music to break into different Genres... Cruck, Hyphy Shit, Gansta, Pop Rap... etc... 50 cent makes R&B rap... there it is... Another genre of rap... is all good... As long as niggas is getting money... cant knock em for that...

I just think that 50 is starting to feel the preassure and he's looking for an excuse as to why his artists wont be selling records in the near future... that's my opinion...
GANGSTA RAP FOR THE BACKPACKERS??

The stuff from the south that most ppl are hating is from Atlanta.
The crap they make isn't going to last.
Its music for the minute to make money for the moment it has no
longevity.

I guess its Atlanta's fault for making everyone think that a crunk song is just a club track...Atlanta isn't even legit on the sound its not done right.

The real shit buck sound or crunk started in Memphis over 15 years ago.
You can do a buck/crunk track to anything its the style of the beat.
Like Memphis rappers they got buck/crunk tracks to Locking ppl in the trunk, stanging, selling crack, just breaking da law, shooting ppl, beating da fuck out of ppl, ridin in your chevy, getting high etc.. the shit is real hype you might even feel like hiting someone..thats why theres the dance for it gangsta walking

But thats not all memphis has they had a dark sound or devil shit is what some ppl call it,rappers that can tongue twist or rap fast, real life tracks, spiritual tracks, laid back pimp shit, gangsta rap,etc...

Once the south started getting some attention and becoming big a group like three 6 mafia watered down their sound hoping for mainstream success..some other ppl in memphis have been making a lot crunk tracks hoping to get big themselves although the underground memphis rappers doing that haven't watered it down like three 6 did.
One of the reasons Memphis rappers are sorta focusing on this is because they are mad that Atlanta is getting all this fame and attention and the way they see it is Atlanta stole from Memphis.

Thankfully there are rappers like Mr Sche,Playa Fly and some others who are keeping it true memphis sound and not just focusing on making 1 type of the memphis style there being true and just making good music still.

Anyways the south isn't messing up rap.
Really its just mainstream rap, major labels and the public.
The public is buying whats on the tv and the radio and major labels see thats whats selling so they find as many rappers as they can that will make that type of music its not about making good music its about making money.
Personally I never got into rap from listening to the radio or watching tv I didn't like what I heard...eventually I found something I liked and then found out hey there might be some good rap out there etc...
Really I don't know why ppl like or even buy whats on the radio these days...
I guess you better like it because everyone else does or something.
I don't know I guess some ppl just can't be themselves and like what they like.
Even music from a group like three 6 mafia I don't even like what they make now tracks like Stay Fly and Poppin My Collar everyone is liking but I hate those tracks they suck.
Really at times I think the public will buy anything thats on the radio...
It would be interesting to see if you put some good underground rap on the radio and see if it sells because you know what it problay would...

But you got major labels paying the stations to play *insert crappy song*
100 times a day so thats what gets played.

Its the labels, radio, and the public that support the music thats popular and if they buy it then there is going to be 50 million versions of the same thing...
