Staples Center has made a guaranteed $20-million offer to host the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. mega-fight that has been verbally agreed to be fought March 13.

Fabforum "This is the biggest boxing event ever, and we're prepared to step up in a big way," said Dan Beckerman, AEG's chief financial officer. Beckerman said his pitch to Mayweather promoter Richard Schaefer and Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum is to "activate the entire L.A. Live campus" on fight week.

New J.W. Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels would serve as media headquarters, a fan-fest would be staged at Nokia Plaza, a large closed-circuit audience could watch the bout at Nokia Theatre and 20,000 would fill Staples Center, Beckerman said.

"We know there's interest in this fight across the world, but we're very interested and honored to make the most impressive offer possible," Beckerman said. "It's our biggest guarantee ever, and we hope it wins the day. We wanted to push as far and as hard as we could."

Schaefer, chief executive of Golden Boy Promotions, which counts AEG as a partner, declined to immediately comment on any site deals. He canceled a planned trip to tour Dallas Cowboys Stadium on Wednesday, but declined to explain why, other than repeating he was busy working to finalize the fight deal.

One of the barriers to staging the bout in California, promoters say, are the state taxes required from the boxers -- payments not required in Nevada and Texas.

"That's certainly a factor in the overall economics, and one thing we'd have to overcome," Beckerman said.

Staples has at least won the right to stage another fight of interest, the fourth chapter between Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez, on May 22, Beckerman said.

The classic trilogy had two fights at AEG's Home Depot Center, with both bouts won by Huntington Park's Vazquez.

"That's a great L.A. fight and the fourth installment appropriately needs to step up to the bigger venue," Beckerman said.

I can drive home after the fight. That's ideal to me.
I will literally roll there by myself if no one I know will fork up for a ticket.

They won't host in LA though. CA taxes will eat them alive.

Yup, there's no way Manny or Floyd will agree to be taxed just to fight in LA. Both are comfortable fighting in Vegas. Its going to be at the MGM again.

I thought it should've been in a bigger venue, but the MGM has the money so...

if Floyd fights Pac the same way he fought Corrales, then he might win. but..... i'm sure Pac will throw more punches. but he will need to land them punches. Pac does have that same repetitive 1-2 combo that somehow lands frequently on other fighters for some reason. Which i dont think will work on Floyd

Floyd will have to stick move and will just have to throw punches. its gonna b an awkward fight for both. but i think manny will win by decision, only cuz he will throw more punches and land more. Floyd is gonna have to land more to win. Pac may score a knockdown but not a KO. Floyd is not that stupid to just go at Pac to get counter punched. what yall think?

Texas back in, L.A out

Mayweather-Pacquiao: Texas Back in The Venue Race

By Ronnie Nathanielsz

The controversy over the venue for the super fight between pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and former No.1 Floyd Mayweather Jr has been resolved.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum informed us shortly after noon on Friday, Manila Time, that the choice of a site for what promises to be a fight for the ages has been narrowed down to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and the $1.2 billion state-of-the-art Dallas Cowboys Stadium of Jerry Jones .

Arum said “we are finalizing the contract and then we’ll determine the site. There are two places in the running. At least we’ve eliminated all the nonsense. Its between the MGM Grand or Dallas.”

Arum revealed that the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, “made a fantastic offer to us. He has already indicated that he’s going to increase it and it will be by far the biggest site fee ever.”

The Top Rank promoter said he understands that the MGM Grand will “come up with a very good offer and that will determine what we’re going to do. I think we are making good progress in getting through all of the other points.”

He claimed that the people who made the offer to have the fight at the Staples Center “knew before they made the offer that it would not be accepted.” He noted that “the offer was too low and secondly it subjects both fighters to state income tax. Mayweather, for his purpose, lives in Nevada and pays no state income tax. “

Arum insisted “Staples was never a starter. It was never a possibility so I told Michael Koncz (Pacquiao’s adviser) calm down, nobody was even considering Staples Center.”

BoxingScene.com, insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports understands that the Mayweather people had also made it known that they wouldn’t fight in Los Angeles which meant that both sides were on the same page with regard to the venue.

Pacquiao meantime is back in his hometown of General Santos City taking a much-needed rest after his hectic schedule shooting his movie “Wapakman” and keeping several other commitments. He is expected to return to Manila on the 15th to wrap up some voicing for the movie.

Floyd a bit insecure

Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao will undergo extreme Blood Tests - Contract Clause
By Johnny Benz (Dec 11, 2009)

The deal which will pit Floyd Mayweather Jr. against Manny Pacquiao on March 13th of 2010 is almost set. According to a report out by ESPN, one thing that has been agreed on is that both fighters in their run up to the mega event will be subjected to Olympic-style drug testing. Chances of either fighter using a steroid or illegal substance are pretty much slim now.

According to the report, both Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao have agreed in the contract to a clause in which both of
them will undergo drug testing Olympic-style.

n the past, Pacquiao has been accused by Floyd Mayweather Sr. (Floyd Jr's father) of using some type performance enhancement. The accusation came even after the fact that Pacquiao has never failed any drug tests that would have proved he had ****ed his blood or system with a performance enhancing drug or chemical.

Further according to the report, both Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao will be subjected to numerous tests (not just a single test). These tests will include blood testing and will happen during the run up to their fight. Blood samples taken from both fighters will be analyzed by the U.S. Olympic testing center at UCLA. Neither fighter will have blood expelled from thier body on the week of the fight.

Obviously, the Mayweather's are impressed by Manny's run of destruction.

So impressed that they cannot fathom the possibility of him just being a truly all time great fighter...so they have to turn to false accusations, and excuses, and extra drug tests...
