Ken Shamrock (Pictures) will be the fourth man to face Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson (Pictures) when the two icons clash at EliteXC’s third installment of “Saturday Night Fights” Oct. 4 at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. The headlining bout will anchor a live broadcast on CBS.

Sherdog.com confirmed the bout’s signing with multiple parties aware of the fight, while a press release is expected to circulate later today with the news.

The 44-year-old Shamrock (26-13-2) beat out fellow candidates Sean Gannon and Brett Rogers (Pictures), who called out Slice in May, for the coveted slot.

Shamrock, a 15-year veteran of the game who made his storied Octagon debut at UFC 1 in November 1993, has dropped his last five bouts in a row since 2005, including a lackluster showing against brawler Robert Berry (Pictures) at Cage Rage 25 last March.

However, “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” exudes substantial selling power for a match now only five and a half weeks away. A strong personality in and out of the cage, Shamrock’s 15 appearances in the UFC earned him international recognition alongside his original nemesis Royce Gracie (Pictures).

Slice (3-0) earned a third-round victory against Brit James Thompson (Pictures) in his last foray for EliteXC in May. The bout was much criticized for its questionable officiating, placing Ferguson’s skill set in doubt after Thompson held the advantage for sizable stretches of the 11-minute contest. Ferguson holds previous wins over David "Tank" Abbott (Pictures) and Bo Cantrell (Pictures).

Haha of course they don't want Kimbo to lose. Dude brings in major $$$. He should knock Shamrock the fuck out easily. I doubt a 44 year old Shamrock will be able to take Kimbo down.

If shamrock can get him to the ground he has a shot at winning. Even at 44 and way past his prime he still has fighting skills, especially on the ground where Kimbo has NONE. I mean, that retarded ear guy almost beat kimbo. Or course, if Kimbo lands one big shot it's over.

100% agreed....we'll see what Shamrock does tho. Y doesnt Kimbo fight somebody still in their prime already. If dude really wants to prove himself he needs to start fighting better opponents (not to take anything away from Shamrock) until then he is still way overrated in my book! I mean dude came too close to losing his last fight, until he popped dudes ear.....

Because anybody who knows anything about MMA knows Kimbo would get wrecked by a legitimate heavyweight.

Ok I am a little on the fence here. I am one that has NOT bought into the Kimbo hype and have been wanting him to fight someone, "better"/"experienced".

You can't get much more experienced than Shamrock, and out of everyone he has EVER fought this will be Kimbo's best opponent to date.

Now, the other side..what does Ken have left??? he hasn't won a meaningful fight in years, and with such short notice how ready will he be for this fight?

I guess if Kimbo takes Ken out quickly he can gain respect, but if it lasts 2 3 rounds or goes to scorecard Kimbo will yet again hear same boos from critics.

Ken Shamrock will come into the ring eating a hamburger like he did in the Shamrock vs Ortiz III. Ken Shamrocks career post WWF has been nothing but a stepping stone for fighters. Hes a gatekeeper fighter that hands the keys as soon as the bell rings. Hes done so much for the sport, so he keeps continue to give the sport new faces a chance to make a name for themselves. Ken isnt coming to this fight to win. He's going into this fight to collect a payday and to hype up a fight between him and Frank Shamrock. After all Frank does EliteXC CBS color commentary....

Co-sign on that.

Also, this is a great marketing move by EliteXC. Shamrock is still a very recognizable name, and he probably still holds a lot (too much) weight with fairweather MMA fans.

Ken Shamrock couldn't get Buzz to the ground and was knocked out by him in a round. He's old and is completely horrible now. This fight besides pulling in viewers based on Shamrock's name is completely pointless. Thompson at least had a somewhat recent upset win over Yoshida .. Shamrock hasn't won a fight in years.

I don't see why people want to see Kimbo in there with elite level talent already, when he doesn't have the experience or training needed to even make a fight competitive.

Of course he always stands a puncher's chance, but other than that, he really needs to gradually up his level of competition, which I think they are doing a good job of, at the same time keeping his profitability intact.
