It's not failure.

He's simply way too small and the whole "Bane, even without Venom, is still stronger than Batman in strength" canon can be thrown out the window now, because it'll never be believable that little dude with big muscles (for Hollywood) is stronger than Batman who's physically much larger than him, even if they stand his little ass on a box and film from the knees up.

i trust Nolan, because I think I remember hating the idea of Ledger as Joker, but that was kind of short lived.
How tall he is in real life is of no consequence. You seem to forget that this is a movie and they can "cheat" it to make him appear taller when necessary. Also, no one is as big as their comic book counterpart. Comics are super-exaggerated. Tom Hardy as Bane is excellent casting news.

you guys trippin over height are retarded. Actors are rarely tall. Rocky Balboa is like 4'9 and he looks like he's 6'9 on the big screen. And all his movies were pre-CGI days.

Tom Hardy was fucking tight as fuck in Bronson and he was very good in Inception as well.

On top of this, let's not forget about how everyone was going crazy and flipping out over the "fag" who got the star role as the Joker in Heath Ledger. How'd that turn out again? oh yeah, EPIC.

Character portrayal-wise, sure it's good news. Like I said, he'll get to play Bronson again, the ego maniacal genius completely in control of his insanity, and hopefully he'll wear a mask.

But Tom Hardy is not proportioned like Bale is, and THAT will show, regardless if, they like I said in that post you quoted, film him on a box from the knees up.

You get a physically fit person with short arms, then lift him a few inches higher than your main character who's 6 foot tall through movie magic, and you still have a guy with stumpy arms.

My bet is that Nolan will centralize on the characters cognitive abilities and intelligence rather than on his sheer size, which likely means they'll forgo the "little guy on a tall box" routine and film him from his own height or just high enough to be eye to eye with Bale.

That's what I don't like. Bane was formidably everything that Batman was, but much larger. He was even stronger than Batman even when he wasn't juicing on VENOM, which is where the discrepancies in height I'm going to take issue with comes from.

That was the truly scary thing about Bane. Not his high intellect fully, it was the combination of how monstrous his size was and the public notion that very large people aren't always so bright.

He's the antithesis to the Marvel Juggernaut character that's genius, but plows his way through things. Bane's meticulous in detail all the while being bigger than Bob Sapp.

I see no potential issue regarding how Hardy will look in relation to Bale. Bale isn't huge, by any means.

^^true that robby. and got to remember that this trilogy is probably the 1st trilogy ever to have a great director for all 3. most trilogy fail usually cause they switch directors or the studio's cut the balls off the directors. they tried that already with nolan trying to make this 3-d and he wouldnt do it. that shows good signs that he wont fuck this movie up for the sake of making money, he'd rather make a legacy.

Movies] Is Hugo Strange In The Dark Knight Rising?
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 01.28.2011

And who may be playing him?

Despite Bane and Catwoman being officially announced for The Dark Knight Rises, the often-rumored Hugo Strange may still be in the film. Trusted Batman movie news site Batman-on-Film tweeted the following today:

RW as Strange? Hmm...

The site has made mention of unsubstantiated rumors regarding Robin Williams as Hugo Strange before, but never as a concrete piece of news. It's been speculated that Strange, who is known for making monstrous individuals in the comics, may have something to do with Bane (to be played by Tom Hardy). Strange is also the villain in the upcoming game Batman: Arkham City.

Someone mentioned that to me the other day, but while it works in the movie sense, it's also likely the main plot for the game, so IDK if I can' believe that Strange is the main villain in the game and a sub villain in the movie.

Bane being sort of a byproduct of Strange's genius, then becoming the main antagonist against Batman as his psychological equal sounds like a Nolan tale.

Talia is supposed to be in the movie, and that would tie all the films together in one massive arc, so we'll see who's actually gonna be doing the main villain role.

I'd prefer Scarecrow again, but I'm a huge fan of both that character and Cillian Murphy, so I'm bias.

Also, Batman on Film is noted to report everything about Batman, including bogus rumors, so take that lightly for now.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt In Talks To Join 'The Dark Knight Rises'

EXCLUSIVE: Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to reunite with his Inception director Christopher Nolan in The Dark Knight Rises for Warner Bros. I'm not sure what role he'll play, but I'm told that he will be in the movie when Nolan starts production this spring. Gordon-Levitt will be done shooting the Rian Johnson-directed Looper with Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt by then. Gordon-Levitt has the indie Hesher coming out this spring, as well as Live With It, the Jonathan Levine-directed pic about a 27-year old who tries to overcome a cancer diagnosis. CAA-repped Gordon-Levitt established himself with indie films like Brick, the underrated Scott Frank-directed The Lookout, and the Marc Webb-directed (500) Days of Summer. Nolan keeps his films shrouded in secrecy, though he did lift the veil recently to disclose that Anne Hathaway would play Selina Kyle (Catwoman) and Gordon-Levitt's Inception co-star Tom Hardy will play Bane. What role fits Gordon-Levitt?

I thinks he makes the perfect riddler
