it's rick's weakness. rick's strengths are shanes weaknesses and shanes strengths are ricks weaknesses. Problem is in this environment shanes weaknesses are actually strengths. the fact he can not care about taking a life to save the ones he loves. Rick still has problems with it and will always be weaker then shane until he can solve it. Ricks getting there though so once he has that down pat then he's the easy shoe in for leader. but so far every single decision shane made in this season has been better than ricks.
whos the stronger man in that situation... the one who is true to himself and his moral code, or the man who throws his code out of the window when the shit hits the fan. to simply survive is not the same as having a live worth living.

sorry but i disagree with you and i believe ricks decisions are more humane and are better. we see how shane has affected andrea, she basically convinced that one girl to try and kill herself. shes a pariah now, she was always kind of an outsider but never as much as after being affected by shanes way of thinking. shane is a dangerous infection within the group that threatens their stability and safety whenever he makes any type of major decision. i believe that shane would benefit more from ricks caution and morality than rick would benefit from shanes lack thereof

i believe that shane would make the perfect leader for those guys rick shot in the bar. hes not an honest and 'good' person. he used to be, but maybe hes lost forever now. rick asked him to "Come back", rick wants shane to be the same man as before all the shit happened, before he changed into the animal that he is now

but shane doesnt throw his morals out the window he just has different ones that are better for the world they live in. every choice he's made so far has been the right choice. yeah the way he does things is bad but at the end when you look at it he made the right one. all his decisions are made with the people he loves in mind. he wants to kill that kid so no1 goes back to the farm and ricks not sure just because he's young. i mean the way that kid was hitting the zombie you can tell he's sadistic so again shane would've made the right choice easily and that attack would've never happened.

when rick tells shane his 2 cents shane accepts it and moves on. then when shane tells rick how he feels rick swings on him. IMO right there is a sign of weakness. also andrea made the right choice but in a bad presentation. ultimately that girl would kill herself if she wanted too and only andrea knew that since she went through exactly what she did. she did for that girl what no1 did for andrea and that's make her own decision. it was right but looked bad. i think you're right about what you say with rick but your so wrong about shane. he has morals and he's humane but he shuts those down when he has to to make decisions no1 would be able to make. that's what makes him stronger than rick.

well said; i agree with you, but i still disagree that it takes more strength to do what it takes to survive, no matter how terrible it is, than it does to make a conscious and moral decision and do what is right and has always been right, and will always be right.

i think that the righteous and moral path is always the most difficult; but ultimately leads to a richer and more fulfilling life

see i'm not saying it's strength that makes shane a stronger person. it's a mix of his bad and good that make him more fit to survive. that's all. rick being the more righteous one will always be the best fit to lead a team. but when it comes down to hard decisions like killing a kid to save the ones you love then that's where ricks weak. that weakness (which seems to be fading slowly) will get people killed if he decides to keep the guy alive. where shane is weak is also strengths when it comes to the situations they're delt.

and remember the righteous and moral path was the one Hershel took and ultimately in the world they're in it was the wrong one. he had zombies alive on the grounds which was such a huge risk he had no idea since he morally felt it would be wrong to kill them. see this is where ricks balance is good, you knew in his speech in the very 1st episode of season 2 he was realizing the righteous path isnt always the right one. he's slowly realizing being moral in a non moral world will get him and his loved ones killed. but once he gets past that then he's easily the better survivor.

this is something neither of us will ever be right on since it's based on opinion. but it's a great debate to have since we do it respectively and both have great arguments.

i agree with everything you are saying; youre absolutely right

im wondering, someone dropped the bomb about shane IRL, i think it was L.D.S., said the actor that plays shane is leaving the show to pursue a different role or something. im wondering if theyre going to kind of add shanes strengths to ricks weaknesses to try and make rick like a hybrid super leader or something, lol. kind of give rick a hard lesson in this new reality and force him to make a tough choice, like putting a bullet in that one kids head for the ultimate survival of the group; kind of make his character transition into one thats tougher like shane; cause obviously they are like yin and yang right now, i dont think one could lead without the other. if shanes leaving the show then i imagine theyre going to change ricks character to have more of the common sense and bad-ass-ery that shane possesses. it appears the transition is starting to take place already; like we saw in the bar. obviously killing that kid falls into a more grey of a territory though, its not as cut and dry as self-defense against some marauding sociopaths; i imagine its going to be one of those 'grey area' type of decisions that forces rick to 'grow up' for lack of better terminology

thats probably what those crossroads symbolized, rick and shane are at a crossroads, i think rick is going to take "shanes path", which is making the more 'grey area' decisions in order to survive

also; obligatory "cant wait till theyre completely off the fuckin farm" comment lol

i thought somebody was going to get scratched on this last episode after rick talked about those cops wasnt bitten they was scratched.i thought shane was going to get some zombie blood in him from rubbing his bloody hand on that bus wall TWICE in the same spot after he stabbed that first zombie in the head.

good point! i forgot about that and i meant to bring it up.

maybe thats how shane is going to leave the show... it would be perfect, rick and his cunt wife will get rid of shane, and it wont leave a bad taste in everybodys mouth. it still might piss a lot of people off though, shane might as well be just as much the main character as rick, im sure no one would want to see him go out like that. also itd bring up consistency issues again, like when t-dog had that huge fuckin gash on his arm and a pile of bloody zombies on top of him and never got infected... or tons of other times people have been sprayed with zombie near cuts or eyes / mouth area etc

yeah i agree 110% with this. i always thought they'd kill him off due to the fact he dies in the books and then LDS said he was gonna be a main character in another show. i think these writers realize Shane is the more realistic in these circumstances and you can tell they'll slowly lead rick off the righteous path. right with the season opened you could see it and now the whole Hershel thing it was clear they're transforming rick.

good point! i forgot about that and i meant to bring it up.

yeah i forgot about that too. it's obvious they're setting up for someone to get scratch and my money is that its shane. i mean the way they kept focusing on him cutting his hand to get walkers was so obvious to me. this will leave plot holes but i think they know that. they didnt like the direction the show was going so they;re changing it mid season and it will leave plot holes for people like us to catch on too. but maybe at the end it's for the best.

i mean even in that episode rick was all cut up and had zombie blood all over him including his cuts. it would be HUGE plot hole if a scratch can turn you.
