damn... we should've got rid of Jordan instead of Rhodes... especially since he took a 3 million dollar pay cut

I like Rhodes... I wanted to see him stick around...but I guess we gotta make room back the re for D-Mac

SAPP CRITIQUES FORMER TEAM
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 29, 2008, 2:01 p.m.

Warren Sapp retired after the 2007 season and hasn’t paid a lot of attention to the goings-on in the NFL in the last few months. But the chubby defensive tackle does have some unflattering thoughts about the Oakland Raiders, the team he played for the last four years.

For starters, Sapp tells Michael Silver of Yahoo Sports that the Raiders have problems on defense because owner Al Davis has put together “a team with 3-4 personnel, but they’re running a 4-3 system.”

Sapp also had some harsh words for former teammate LaMont Jordan, who carried 84 times for 424 yards in September of 2007 but just 60 times for 125 yards the rest of the season. According to Sapp, that’s because Jordan was out of shape.

“LaMont is like the worst offseason running back I’ve ever been around; he was out of shape and couldn’t keep it going,” Sapp tells Silver.

That’s why Sapp endorses the decision to select running back Darren McFadden in the first round of Saturday’s draft.

“I love Darren McFadden to the Raiders,” Sapp said. “I think it’s a perfect fit.”

And while Davis is widely believed to dislike head coach Lane Kiffin and regret hiring him, Sapp is in Kiffin’s corner.

“There is nothing wrong with Lane Kiffin’s offensive system,” Sapp said. “There is nothing wrong with Lane Kiffin as a head coach, and now he has another stud who can help him succeed. I guess Al’s going for his last hurrah.”

Yeah, I was all for Fargas or Rhodes playing... no wonder LaMont Jordan used to hit the whole so damn slow... he was out of shape.... it was only obvious though.

Lamont always trained in pre season workouts out in Florida by himself, never was a team player. I remember hearing about that way back when Art Shell was coaching.

I think Warren was saying he didn't train good enough because he probably showed up to camp out of shape. I wonder if he was training by himself or doing any training at all. Warren said he was the "worst offseason" running back he's ever been around. And Warren has been around for a while.

I thought that was Jerry Porter? I cant believe the Raiders not only do they draft a running back but they get rid of a decent one and keep a fat fuck linebacker looking running back

Rhodes’ restructure was conditional
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008 at 7:47 pm in Oakland Raiders.

It sounds as if Dominic Rhodes was promised that if he agreed to take less money on his contract and the Raiders drafted Darren McFadden, he would be granted his release.

“If they drafted Darren McFadden I was like, ‘Listen, I’ll restructure but it’s got to be to where if y’all draft him I can leave, you know. Y’all let me go.’ That’s kind of how it went,” Rhodes said in an interview on Sirius Satellite Radio Tuesday. “ They kept their word and they let me get a chance to go somewhere else and get my opportunity. I know they like Mike Bush. They just re-signed Justin [Fargas] and I didn’t want to have to deal with what I dealt with last year because I know I can play and I know somebody can use someone like me.”

Host Pat Kirwan asked Rhodes if he regretted the decision to come to Oakland as a a free agent.

“The year out in Oakland was a tough one for me, man, especially coming from the Colts which is a great organization. They put together their team in a way with not a bunch of guys that are supposed to be like Hollywood types,” Rhodes said. “They go and get guys like myself who they know can play football and they put them on the field and they win with them, you know?

“Out in Oakland it was tough, man. I got put into a bad situation. The first thing was my fault by getting the four game suspension but then when I got back, they knew that I was going to have that four game suspension, and when I got back they kind of held it against me, didn’t give me my shot to get on the field and do the things that they said they were going to do.”

“That right there kind of let me know what was going on and then I don’t see the reason why the Raiders needed to draft a running back, you know what I’m saying? We had like a stable full of running backs that are capable, that ran for a hundred yards, every one of them and we went and drafted a guy that - he’s a great runner, don’t get me wrong - but I don’t understand the logic behind it.”

Rhodes’ complaints about playing time carry some merit, but the thing that hurt his chances the worst was when Fargas exploded for 179 yards against Miami the week before he became eligible.

If McFadden is as good as the Raiders think he is, they simply couldn’t pass on him. Rhodes is an above average back, but not a home run threat. Once Jordan was injured in the same Miami game where Fargas won the job, Rhodes probably should have been the second runner and given more of a workload.

Jordan seemed clearly uninterested once Fargas took over and Rhodes talked from the heart and played from the heart.

He got a chance in the final two games of the season to put two good games on film, and the Raiders did the right thing in keeping their word and letting him go once they drafted McFadden.

Rhodes sounded interested in returning to the Colts.

Yeah Rhodes kind of got shafted... I see his point though and I think most Raider fans agree. But hopefully McFadden is the home run threat that Al hopes he is.

The way I see it if the cap dont get us in the next few years the raiders will have a good if not great offense and be a playoff team once again if not this year. Look at the young talent in key spots QB Russel RB's Mcfadden & Bush TE Miller WR... A lot of new speed in this years draft but still a ? OL needs help but zone blocking is slowly turning things around. I can only hope things get better nothing is a sure thing just cant wait for the season to start again.
