I believe it was smart/risky move.. yeah I do. Big risk equal big reward. Porter just left and we have no number 1 wide receiver. Walker was best receiver available via free agency (besides Moss who was going to re-sign with the Pats anyway). Walker is the best receiver we've had in a long time. Other than Tim Brown and Jerry Rice I can't name a better receiver the Raiders have had in a while.

People said signing Newberry was a bad move last year and look how that turned out. We were one of the league leaders in rushing offense last year and Newberry had a lot to do with that.

Raiders restructure Rhodes contract

Oakland Raiders running back Dominic Rhodes agreed to a restructured contract which dropped his salary from $3 million to $1.75 million the ContraCosta Times reported.

Rhodes was also scheduled to receive a $2 million roster bonus Friday, and it is a safe bet that he agreed to take much less. The Raiders reduced the salary of LaMont Jordan in a similar fashion last season.

In his final two games in relief of an injured Justin Fargas, Rhodes ran for 337 yards on 56 carries against Jacksonville and San Diego, a pair of playoff caliber defenses. Rhodes missed the first four games of the 2007 season for being in violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy _ a pending suspension the Raiders knew was a possibility when they signed him

Walker is no quitter though and he doesn't take plays off or purposely run the wrong routes.

In Green Bay walker felt he deserved more money because he outperformed his contract. He made the pro-bowl and was only scheduled to make a little over 500 geez. That's what caused problems between he and Favre. Favre broke the rule by speaking on another mans contract.

Walker is not a "me" player.

hell take the last 3 seasons and Porter is better than walker, and that was with worse qb's and offenses than denver.
Porter is not better than Walker.... come on now scary....

Porter is not even a number 1 receiver. Walker has already proved he's a number 1.

Walker>Porter... by far. You'll see.

I have already seen walker and is ME attitude....believe me he is a me player...I would loooove porter in Denver!

You haven't see Walker not run a route wrong because he hasn't been able to get off line fast enough or open enough to run a route.

And walker has proved he was #1 PRIOR TO INJURIES!!! Since no.

Porter is trash a solid #2 maybe but his attitude is by far worse he sat out all of the year before last year because he could get alone with Shell and when Gruden was around he was always in the dog house. The dude flips off fans and played halfass for years wanted the raiders to get rid of him years ago when they could have gotten something for him.

Javon was your number 1 receiver until he got hurt. He started off the season hot, he had 17 receptions and over 200 yards his first two games of the season. No number 2 receiver puts up numbers like that. When he got hurt Marshall stepped in and took advantage of his opportunity. Just like Fargas did when Jordan got hurt.

"At first, Walker was unsure if he could continue playing in Denver, but he had a stellar training camp and got off to a good start last season, piling up 17 catches for 220 yards through two games before getting hurt."

thascary 1 you're acting like Javon lost his job due to poor play. He missed two months and lost his job because of his injury.

right...and when he was "healthy" so he said...he came back and played like shit! blamed it on players and staff saying not getting him chances, when the truth was he couldn't get open on me much less an nfl player.

The Walker contract
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Thursday, March 6th, 2008 at 10:46 am in Oakland Raiders.

Just got a look at the actual contract figures for wide receiver Javon Walker.

Turns out the figures given to me Wednesday by the club ($6 million to sign, $5 million salary in each of the next two seasons) were in error.

Walker actually got $11 million to sign and has salaries of $1 million in 2008, $4 million in 2009, $6 million in 2010, $8 million in 2011 and $10 million in 2012 and 2013.

There is also a $5 million roster bonus which at the Raiders option to be picked up in 2009. It is in essence a three-year, $27 million contract, or a four-year, $35 million deal.

The same Raiders official who gave me the numbers Wednesday confirmed the error Thursday. He was relaying information given to him by someone else and had not actually seen the contract numbers.

So what’s to make of all this?

Are the Raiders overly sensitive to the perception that they’re overpaying to the point where they’d float false information? Doubtful, because the real numbers always bubble to the surface eventually.

Bottom line _ they were desperate for a play-making wide receiver to pair with JaMarcus Russell, thoroughly checked out Walker’s health (he’s had three knee surgeries) and rolled the dice with a monster contract.

If Walker catches 70-plus passes for 1,200 yards and gets to double figures in touchdowns, they’ll be taking bows. If Walker blows out his knee on Day 1 or becomes disenchanted with life in silver and black, the Raiders will take the heat.

Just as they have for the better part of the last five years.

Hammerhead pays a visit
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Thursday, March 6th, 2008 at 2:05 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Linebacker Danny Clark, a fan favorite who was displaced as the middle linebacker when Kirk Morrison moved inside for the 2005 season, visited the Raiders facility Thursday.

No word on the level of interest on either side.

Clark was a fairly stout run defender who had problems in pass coverage. Morrison is one of the NFL’s best pass defenders at his position but struggled last season getting off blocks against the run.

Clark played for New Orleans in 2006 and Houston in 2007.

Carr visits Titans
Defensive back/return specialist Chris Carr met with Tennessee, but as a restricted free agent, the Raiders have the right to match any offer.

As an undrafted free agent, Carr brings no draft compensation if the Raiders decline to match. Same with linebacker Isaiah Ekejiuba. Defensive tackle Josh Shaw, if signed by someone else, would net a fifth-round draft pick.

Carlisle under contract

Not sure where the story got started that Cooper Carlisle is on the open market.

Carlisle signed a two-year contract and there was no void involved. He remains the Raiders right guard.
