Taken from another article.... damn!

Quarterbacks coach Paul Hackett has not been spotted in Mobile, and his status with the Raiders is in question. One player said Davis ceased speaking to Hackett midway through last season because he tired of hearing Hackett's harsh assessment of quarterback JaMarcus Russell

at this point i rather have grads start too.

but a less talented version of leftwich? i disagree there. JR has the talent just not the work ethic required to be successful in the NFL up to this point. I just hope he comes in around 260 and sheds another 10 pounds during minicamp and preseason.

Lets face it. He is not going anywhere yet...
I think his talent is extremely over rated due to his ridiculous arm strength....if you think about it he had DeWayne Bowe and Early Doucet to throw the ball too and Alley Broussard and Jacob Hester were both used to control tha ground game...not only that but half the starting Defense that year is in the NFL.....dude was surrounded by talent and going into his Junior yr. a lot of LSU fans wanted Matt Flynn to start over him.....he struggled reading Defenses the entire time he was in college and he only had one year where he looked like a possible NFL QB....People try to tag him as a super talented dude because he went #1 overall but i think he's mediocre and just happened to come out at the right time....he just happened to be better than Brady Quinn and John Beck who were tha only other QB's taken in tha first two rounds....

we still haven't cut russel, I won't feel good about the next season until we do.

at the same time though, I can understand where al is coming from. he spent over 40 mil on that bum russel. if I spent that much money, I wouldn't be so easy to give up on him either. it's easy for fans to just sit back and say "cut his ass", but we wouldn't be so quick to say that if it was our money. all al is doing is trying every possible way to get russel on track. too bad none of it is going to work though.

at lsu he was surrounded by talent that was superior to most of the teams they played. lsu also was a run orientated offense which helps the qb excel if the running game can be effective.in the nfl he does not come to the line ofscrimmage and scan the defensive alignment before the play. he isnt decisive in his decision making. he does not audible. not only that but when we get to the line with 7-8 seconds on the play clock, there is not much time for adjustments. he has not adjusted to the speed of the nfl game. i agree with that up to this point. but he lost his best reciever to injury and was throwing to two ROOKIE recievers to start the year. and he is part of an organization that has trouble getting young players to produce early in their careers as of late. there is no doubt he needs to do much more off the field and on it. but his ability is superior to most, imo. his arm strength, size, and upside are tremendous if it clicks.hopefully this new coach stresses decisive decision making and getting out of the pocket. russell is at his best on the move making plays. kiffin had the right idea by designing plays that moved him out the pocket. i hope jackson does the same. dont give him the job, but make him earn it. in the end all i care about is the W's.

Monte Poole: Raiders' assistant coach Hue Jackson moves to reach his goals
By Monte Poole
Oakland Tribune columnist

Oakland Raiders hire Hue Jackson as their new offensive coordinator

STEVE MARIUCCI once stood in a corridor at Memorial Stadium pondering the source of the friction with his former boss, Bruce Snyder, and guessing it was linked to a man named Hue Jackson.

Jackson, having spent four years as an assistant under Snyder at Arizona State, was an energetic 30-year-old running backs coach equally popular with players and staff — much as Mariucci was during his time as an assistant under Snyder at Cal.

Mariucci had hired Jackson away from Arizona State, bringing him to Cal and installing him as offensive coordinator — and perhaps alienating Snyder.

"I called Bruce to let him know I was interested in Hue," Mariucci recalled at the time. "And, boy, he wasn't happy about it. He said, 'Oh, no, not Hue. Don't take Hue.'

"Bruce knew he was going to lose a good coach; nobody likes to lose a good coach. But this was for a promotion."

Fourteen years later, cancer has taken Snyder, Mariucci is a TV analyst, and Jackson is pulling into Oakland as the offensive coordinator — and, quite likely, next in line to succeed Tom Cable as Raiders head coach.

Though Jackson is one of dozens of itinerant NFL assistants — this is the 10th stop of his career — response to his departures generally echoes the sentiment expressed by Snyder in 1996. Jackson is highly regarded and leaves a void in his wake.

Once again, Jackson accepts a promotion that brings him to the Bay Area. Though he was lifted from Baltimore, where as quarterbacks coach he was largely responsible for the rapid development of Joe Flacco, Jackson's newest mission may be the most difficult he's ever faced.

He's here to salvage JaMarcus Russell, mold him into a quality NFL quarterback and hope it results in an offensive competency not seen in these parts for nearly a decade.

Ted Tollner and Paul Hackett, both with reputations as teachers, were brought in last year but couldn't save JaMarcus. Sources close to both say the coaches were frustrated by Russell's lack of commitment to maximize his obvious physical talent.

The hiring of Jackson is proof Raiders owner Al Davis wants a new play-caller — Jackson assumes the role from Cable, who presumably remains head coach. Moreover, Jackson's arrival also seems to affirm Russell's status as a Raider in 2010.

Raider Nation is, as it feared but suspected, stuck with JaMarcus for at least another year.

But Jackson takes an altogether different approach than that taken by Tollner and Hackett, both professorial men in their 60s. Jackson is a full generation younger, he's charismatic and he forms personal relationships with members of his unit.

"Hue really has a presence," ESPN analyst Tim Hasselbeck, a marginal NFL quarterback who worked under Jackson, said on the Web site. "He can stand up in front of the room and have the attention of all 25 guys on offense. Some coaches aren't able to command the room. Hue can. And he does it quite well."

Jackson, who played quarterback at the University of the Pacific in the mid-1980s, has coached quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers, working closely with talents such as Carson Palmer in college and with such personalities as Michael Vick, Chad Ochocinco and T.J. Houshmandzadeh in the NFL.

That Jackson is an African-American who played when black quarterbacks were a novelty likely won't hurt his chances to bond with Russell, who by all accounts was adversely affected by the deaths of two close uncles last year.

Jackson is as prepared and equipped as anyone to develop Russell, though there has been no detectable sign of change within JaMarcus; that postseason run to Las Vegas only served to further tarnish his apathetic image. Indeed, Jackson likely does — and should — represent Russell's last chance to make it work in Oakland.

Yet this only partially explains Jackson's return to the Bay Area. He also sees this as another self-exam toward his eventual goal, telling the Ravens team site in a farewell interview that he has "aspirations of being" an offensive coordinator or head coach in the NFL.

"You have to put yourself in position to have those opportunities," he said.

Should Jackson work a miracle with Russell and the offense, the world is his. Should he fail, it will be held not against him but against the Raiders.

Even as the Raiders insist no decision has been made regarding Cable, Davis has made a logical move to protect his future interests regarding Russell and the position of head coach.

If Russell doesn't improve under Jackson, he's done as an NFL quarterback, Al is doing everything he can to help this dude become a good quarterback. It's time for Russell to step up and show he's committed if not then bounce. This is his last chance....

Al's doing everything he can to try to undo what he did. HE drafted Russell, not anyone else, and now he's trying to force some good out of him, with whoever will work with him. I may be the QB coach next week, at this rate. I'll give you guys a shout-out in a pregame presser.

If he was on any other team in the NFL, he wouldn't be CLOSE to taking snaps.

On a side note, that pick of Kyle Wilson of BSU, at that spot, would be a good pick, IMO. I watched the kid play for a couple of years, and he's a pretty special player. He has tremendous speed, quickness, tackling ability, and toughness. He's one of the best return men in the country, easily. And I hate BSU.

thats the point Im making tho.....All the talent in tha world isn't gonna help this dude read a defense or be decisive or release the ball any faster....If talent was tha only thing you needed in tha NFL, Ryan Leaf, Lawrence Phillips, and Peter Warric would be in tha Hall of Fame....

You could surround Russell with the same kind of talent he had in college right now in tha NFL and i don't think he would succeed....tha dude looks like he's checced out mentally and He doesnt work to get better obviously cuz he's gotten progressively worse.....the only thing I even see working is making him come into camp as the number 4 QB....Grad, Frye, Draft a rook and then Russell and make him have to outplay everyone to get the job....if not....might as well cut him cuz Grad and Frye aren't exactly fuccin Peyton Manning.....

Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha said at the Pro Bowl that he wants to play for the Jets and has discussed the idea with coach Rex Ryan.
This would constitute tampering. "Me and (Darrelle) Revis have been talking to Rex to try to do something," Asomugha said. "You may see us in the future. There's a little bit of talk going on." Asomugha signed the richest contract for a defensive player in NFL history last year and isn't going anywhere. Ryan may still have to answer to the league about the two's alleged "talks."

You set yourself up for it... don't come in here talking about ridin' nuts when everytime Kobe reaches a milestone you create a thread. Are you going to create a new Kobe thread when he becomes the number 1 all time scorer in Laker history? Or did I spoil it for you.

Russell is on the Raiders. Peyton Manning would have failed here. Fortunately for us we have a very stubborn and patient owner. A few of our #1 picks are starting to play good football and really don't think we are too far off. A little more continuity on the offense side of the ball, some minor adjustments, and we are in business. I really believe that. Russell may not be the answer, I agree. But I do know sometimes it takes QB's 4-5 years to find themselves. We have 3 experienced back ups. Any one of these guys may be able to make the turn. I like our offensive personel. We really need to draft and bring in a few more veteran o-lineman.
