The Raiders have engaged in long-term contract talks with impending unrestricted free agent K Sebastian Janikowski, according to beat writer David White.
White says that Janikowski isn't going anywhere. If the kicker refuses a long-term deal, the Raiders will slap him the franchise tag. Janikowski is coming off perhaps his best season as a pro, hitting six field goals of 50+ yards.

Nnamdi Asomugha insists he was "kidding" about lobbying Jets coach Rex Ryan for a trade to pair him with Darrelle Revis.
"The only thing we were 'dead serious' about was the fact that it would be fun to one day play on the same team," said Asomugha. "We were two guys enjoying the Pro Bowl and completely clowning around during the week. We were playfully recruiting each other." Asomugha is stuck in Oakland, so this is the last we should hear about the issue.

Raiders hire Clancy Pendergast to coach defensive backs

The Raiders hired Clancy Pendergast on Monday as their defensive backs coach.

Pendergast, 42, has coached in the NFL the past 15 years, including the past six as a defensive coordinator. He was with the Kansas City Chiefs last season and the Arizona Cardinals from 2004-08.

The Raiders hired Pendergast to replace longtime secondary coach Willie Brown, who announced his retirement soon after last season ended.

Pendergast is the third assistant coach hired since the end of the regular season. He joins Mike Waufle (defensive line) and Hue Jackson (offensive coordinator).

In other news, the Raiders signed guard Brandon Rodd and wide receivers Paul Hubbard and Yamon Figurs to their active roster. Rodd and Hubbard spent time on the practice squad last season.

Gradkowski wants to stay with Raiders

Posted: February 10th, 2010 | Adam Rank | Tags: Bruce Gradkowski, Oakland Raiders

Bruce Gradkowski had the most success of all Raiders quarterbacks in 2009. But does the team want him back?

Gradkowski told the Toledo Blade on Tuesday that he would like to play in Oakland next season.

“I plan to be back with the Raiders,” said Gradkowski, who went 2-2 in four starts before he suffered a knee injury. “I think everything will work out, and I’m looking forward to it. We did a lot of good things this year and I’m looking forward to next season.”

Of course, the Raiders have a lot invested in former No. 1 overall draft pick JaMarcus Russell, who signed a six-year, $68 million contract as a rookie in 2007. Russell, who was benched in favor of Gradkowski in 2009, is considered a pet project for Raiders managing general partner Al Davis.

“I think at this point, hopefully, they’ll just pick the best guy to be out there on the field,” said Gradkowski, who will be a restricted free agent. “Money’s not an issue, but I know in this business it kind of is when you invest a lot of money in someone. All I ask for is an opportunity to compete.”

Gradkowski has played for three different teams — the Raiders, Buccaneers and Browns — during his four-year NFL career, not including the training-camp time that he spent with the Rams.

you didn't know? We had a full back returning kick offs last year. I would like to see Bey or mcfadden getting a few more touches returning kicks but you know that is on ole Al and his pocket book...
I saw Higgins take alot of returns for you guys last year, but yes I agree, Bey on kick off returns and McFadden on punt returns would be a good option
