Regionally do we sell over 10k is it usual for a known established artist like; Syko, Unexpected Arrival, Non Stop, Livio........to sell over 15,000 copies altogether........The reason I ask this is because I look at other regions with a strong independent rap background and see artist selling in mass abundance.......In Houston Swishahouse & Dj Screw mixtapes would sell 10's & 100's of thousands independently......I know were knowhere near that but to just get an outline of what our NW artist are selling I think would be interesting to see what needs to be targeted for the future........I was just curious to know......

Ain't as many people in the NW as Texas, Cali, New York, the whole damn south, etc. That's why the numbers don't match up. I'd say your figures would be fairly accurate.

All the posters on here could make a artist blow if they support and buy the music.
I agree with that wholeheartedly, that's why really all I do for the local scene is buy everybody's shit. In the early 90s, our region was to rock music what LA was to rap music, we shaped a sound for the entire world.

Now I was real young back then so I don't know exactly how that came to be other than quality music (which we have in hip-hop right now), but I'd imagine the formula all them grunge bands went they blew locally first, then nationally.

With hip-hop, I've been real depressed to not see that happen. Part of it, I honestly feel, has to do with our region's image of itself. I've talked to a lot of young, hipster, rockerish type white folks that just won't get into Seattle rap b/c they don't think the town's hard enough. Dumb initially, you don't sell CD units with murder rates but unfortunately I do think this has an impact. I don't think the folks around here want to bump stuff that comes from the blocks and places they drive through or where there's Starbucks at etc. To this audience, rap music is a rushing escape from what's familiar to them.

what made grunge do what it do for the town and rack music was the fact that it was true to the region and they pushed it.......If you really just pay attention to the elements around you'll be able to come with a sound thats relevant to the region and then comes the local following from State 2 state.........

I think the only person that's indie-type that has sold 10,000 albums is Neema.

Nobody else really comes close to him on indie sales out the trunk. Then again, not too many people are on the grind 90% of their time, like Neema. That's dedication.

And about what Young Krime said...the internet will not set your career free...if you mean that by selling CDs online to internet fans, you will blow up, I'd have to say that's probably one of the lamest things I've heard...but you can create a good buzz online. But you cannot blow up, online (very rarely). I mean, EVERYONE was waiting on Crytical's album...and what happened to that? I thought it was awesome, but he didn't blow up.

You HAVE to hustle to blow up, not just sign on to the Siccness and think you're going to turn into a mega-star.

The other problem with blowing up online, is people 1) aren't good enoung most of the time 2) talk shit to potential fans or 3) push back the date over 10 times...so nobody wants it anymore...and/or 4) people charge too much for their albums...If you're indie and think 15 bucks is good, you shouldn't have fans...and I'm sorry, but anything above $10 in my opinion is a rip off...unless there's 2 CDs....

Yeah I agree with that 100%.

Fuck, the way I see it if you don't have atleast 100 PURCHASED Northwest CDs in your collection you shouldn't be allowed on this message board.

self tightld has sold more CD's than anyone else in seattle, t-kid told me theyve pushed about 40,000.
Even more than Sir Mix-A-Lot??Are you 100% sure aoubt your outrageous statement?

Even Kid Sensation has outsold Self Tightld.

The "non" mainstream artist to sell the most out the NW has to be Cool Nutz. Neema has sold 10,000 basically OUT THE TRUNK(for the most part).

SLR has sold somewhere around 15,000( i dont know exact numbers, could be more) OUT THE TRUNK(for the most part).
