Are you going for the more "film" look? I'd sell the canon you have and buy a gh1 or gh2 and invest in some lenses. Every camera has its limitations and advantages over the others in the dslr market.. but the gh1 i feel when hacked just shits on all cameras right now, the only downside is no hdmi out when recording live so you're pretty much confined to the lcd screen on the camera but it swivels so you dont have to hold it up to your face all the time.. the new GH2 is supposed to be better or just as good as a hacked gh1. Another thing u can do is get a letus 35mm adapter and throw on some lenses too.. bigger sensor combined with higher bandwidth gives u that pro/film look. That's why the 5D mark 2 looks nice because its sensor is 35mm full frame

thanks. ya. i'm going for a film look. i film mostly music videos, but also do corporate gigs. what are all those rails and extra equipment for that they use to add on to the dslr's? are they used for rack focusing or for preventing shaky picture?

Yeah the rails are for more added stability that's a rig for hand held shots, redrock micro who makes that rig also has shoulder support ones but their stuff is $$$$ zacuto, cavision, redrock micro, just to name a few manufacturers.. definitely a good investment if youre shooting music videos. I plan to get a lot of shit this year, already have a jib, next up is some lighting, lenses, and a dolly w/ tracks.. i'll never be happy unless I get "the shot"

ya. i'm that way. i don't feel the satisfaction till i get a huge rush and yell "that's it! i got the shot!" i am really dope with holding my big camcorder (xh-a1) without any shoulder mounts or stabilizers... i think i'll be able to achieve the same look with a dslr... i will try and use 1 without the hand rails and with the hand rails to see how shaky the shot looks. i call it "good shake" and "bad shake"... "bad shake" looks like some amateur crap that's shaky as hell. good shake is that nice movement that makes your shots more interesting. i stay away from tripod shots unless i really need to use it and/or i'm shooting from REALLY far away... maybe panning a shot or a wide-angle shot-

Word, its frustrating but totally worth it once u get the shot.. well you gotta remember these dslrs are much smaller than a camcorder so its harder to stabilize it since theres less weight but its not impossible, if you got the skills though its very posible.. you can always build a steadycam for cheap too, i have the parts I just need to drill holes and get some screws. Word theres good shake and bad shake..

i only like to use a tripod when panning like you said, but i like to give that feel that the person is there when you do those hand held shots coupled with a little shake and follow focus
