I still have my 70-200 f/4...cant let it go LOL
I have the same and almost never use it... only on holiday (vacation) and still then I wished I had one that goes up to 400 or so.

I would like to have one 18 - 200 so I only have to carry one lens instead of two. And not change so much.
I don't like to change my lenses in dusty places at all... but you got to do what you got to do...

@ CHAPO you got that 50 mm with a steady focal point?
I also would like one some day but I can't imagine using it for anything else then portrets.

Aint that the truth..

I have the following glass

18-105 nikon
28-75 tamron & sigma
10-24 sigma
50 nikon
55-200 nikon
Nice collection.. im lookin for a good wide angle lens.
Oh and youll love that D7000, i love the dual SD card option.. you can back up your pictures on the spot to another sd or have even more space for recording video.

iaoish: it's pretty sharp, i used it for a show before handled the low light like a champ.. what camera you got?

I started with a D40X but now I use a D90. I got the D40X still around as 'backup'.

I got this equipment:
Nikkor 18-55 f/5.6 (kit from the D40X)
Nikkor 55-200 f/5.6
Sigma 10-20 f/5.6
And a SB-600

I got all lenses that don't work so well with low light.. that's why I need a power up.
The D90 has a high iso, though and I don't have any complaints about that but I prefer to shoot with a iso of 200 or so.

I hope the glass is a bit more affordable in Thailand since there is where it's all being made. So I can cop some when I get there and send these home.

I just need to invest in some f/1.4 lenses though.
And dig a little bit deeper in this camera. There are still so many options in this one I don't have a clue about.

This is what I hear more and more often...

It's weird that both are Japanese and Nikon is made in Thailand while Canon is actually made in Japan...

honestly... theres no such thing as a better camera, a good photographer makes use of whats available to him/her.. LIGHTING is key... u can use any camera.. even a cellphone camera and it'll look 100x's better..

honestly a camera under a G i'd recommend the Nikon D3100 if you want the upgraded version of the nikon d40, otherwise id get that nikon d40 and start investing the money in the lenses, lenses will outlive the camera body, guaranteed.

i'd get a panasonic af100 before the RED and if on a budget, a hacked Panasonic GH1, that thing can deliver 4k like cinematic look. And it's a micro 4/3's sensor which means little or NO Jello/aliasing/moire like in the DSLRS (Canon 5D, 7D, 60d, Nikon D90 etc.)

I'll post some footage once I learn how to use it better... just bought an adapter to convert my nikon lenses to micro 4/3's.. no mirror unllike dslrs = slimmer and smaller camera but overall beast! no optical viewfinder, it's digital so it looks even nicer!

i have a canon xh-a1 camera. it's good, but i'm thinking of upgrading. i have great skills with holding that vid camera loose and i'm afraid of getting a dslr that shoots hd vid because i'm afraid i would be shaking it all the time... any general advice, or advice on what would be a good product to upgrade. the panasonic gh1? nikon d7000?

I don't know much about the canon xh-a1, but I think the 7D/5D are overrated as DSLRS.. if you're afraid of stability you should get a rig like a rail system or something with handles and mount the dslr on it.. It depends on the shooting you're gonna be doing I guess, but good lighting can make any filming superb. D7000 is probably the best out there for low light performance. I love how the GH1 is cheaper than any DSLRS out there like the 60D is basically a good comparison, swivel LCD screens, audio gain control and manual control for iso, aperture, shutter speed etc. The Nikon d7000 doesn't do this YET, once in liveview mode you can't change the settings. There's a hack for the GH1 called the Tester13 hack you can make it so that it shoots much higher in bandwidth among other things... check out these two videos and see for yourself
