I used Spybot and AVG, but neither of them fully got rid of the virus. Spybot finally allowed me to regain my task manager, but the computer still shuts off when it wants.

I was using Avira, Spybot, and Ad-Aware... Plus windows firewall (once in a while). Doesn't seem to make that much of a diff in the long-run. After years of fucking with, and fixing computers I think it's sad that you can't just go on the fucking interwebs without putting on a digital padded foam suit so you don't get beaten about the face and head. My computer probably processes 50 times more bullshit caused by malware/spyware etc in one day, than I ever ask it to in a week.

I have visited several of the Strange ran sites, including the page with the new shirts which was presented in your possible coincidence, and I have not experienced one of yours or LDS's symptoms. I don't have much more protection in place than either of you, and everything is running fine and scans have come up clean. Thus, I fail to see it as anything more than a coincidence, as I feel the symptoms would be a little more widespread on this board if Strange were the culprit.

In regards to the whole being unable to simply surf the net without needing a condom designed for your computer... seems the common reply to that is "Dump PC."

I have no problem surfing the interwebs with no bullshit antivirus program. Most of them just alert you to bullshit cookies you have and falsely detected viruses. I have more trouble running antivirus and maintaining it than I do without the damn thing. At the end of the day, the only way you're gonna be safe from a virus/malware/spyware is if you actually watch what the hell you're doing and stop downloading that crazy porn in the dead of the night.

I really think that at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what damn program you're running, because it's the spyware detector companies making the fuckin' adware. Half the times that I have difficulty with popups and shit, it's an ad for a spyware detection/removal program. Fuck, I installed Avira, and shortly after that I was getting popups FOR Avira.

I don't understand the legality of installing hidden programs on a personal computer regardless of your level of protection. If I wanted to come to your house and dump assorted flyers on your lawn, I wouldn't be allowed to do that, let alone tap your phone without your concent. The internet is definitely fucked when every site, in one way or another is trying to jam malicious software onto your hard drive. And in reference to Strange hosting malware, it should be of concern to them that the warning pops up, whether it's there or not, whether it's harmful or not, etc. When a customer goes into your web store to buy a shirt, and the first thing they see is that your site hosts malware, how comfortable are they going to be putting their contact info into those boxes?

And for the record, I've been on the interwebs for a minute. I don't download shit unless I know what it is. Downloading at random is maybe 10% of the total problem IMO.

I wouldn't be so sure that the sites have a problem as wide spread as you might think. I used to run a mail server years ago and would constantly get put on the blocked list because some dumbass user would get a virus that would send massive amounts of email which relayed through my system. As a result I would get a free entry into the spamhaus.org bad sender list. Then I had to track down the culprit, correct the problem, and apply for removal from the spam list so other users could email domains such as yahoo, aol, msn, etc.

I would think that the "site is not safe" messages are generated by a list that is constantly updated. I know that Microsoft, google, and others have lists of "dangerous" sites that get flagged when you visit them due to them being dangerous. (look at http://code.google.com/apis/safebrowsing/firefox3_privacy_faq.html for an example of what I'm babbling about ). If nobody has applied for removal from these lists then end users (that's us) would still be getting the warnings and whatnot. The only site that was flagged when I was visiting them was the skatterman & snug brim page. If nobody attempts to get the sites removed from the lists then I guess they update the entry for that site on the bad site list whenever they get around to it.

If you have a broadband innerweb connection then most likely you will have an ip address which is almost always online. There are many automatic scanner programs that constantly scour the ip ranges of broadband users. i always had problems with china, russia, and italy. My computer wasn't doing shit but sitting there and mothafuckas was trying to take it over to make irc channels and whatever else these wierd fuckers do.

Furthermore, Microsoft commands about 90 some % of the end user desktop space. That is one of the main reasons they are constantly targeted with malware, spyware, viruses, etc. The programs written for windows systems will have the largest overall impact and yield the largest overall results. I personally run ubuntu on my machine after constantly getting pwned by some fucking hacker fucks. Get an external drive and copy all your shit to that so you can reinstall your operating system without losing any of your data. Regardless if your running windows, mac, linux or whatever... backups are always a good idea.

Then again I could be wrong and the site could be purposely attacking your computer just to infect your shit and make your life difficult.... but I doubt it.

*EDIT*
I almost forgot to put anything atchually useful in this titangraph

If you run windows you can download SysInternals for free at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default.aspx

It will provide you with tools such as regmon which can show you what registry keys are getting accessed while your system is running or when you launch applications. They also provide other tools like process monitor which will look much deeper into your system then the task manager does.

Viruses, Malware, Spyware... that shit all sucks... but don't forget about rootkits http://www.securityfocus.com/infocus/1850 they take the cake.

rootkit revealer might help http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897445.aspx

If you feel up to the challenge you can download wireshark for free http://www.wireshark.org/ Wireshark lets you set your network card to a mode that will see everything travelling across the wire on your network. It's kind of crazy and shit but it's a trip none the less.

Holy fuck. I'm just gonna take your word for it, Cyrus. You've never let me down before. I'm not nearly interested in malware to read that thing. LOL

I only brought up that point about watching what you download because that's truly the only fucking explanation I can come up with for so many people having so many bullshit spyware, adware, and virus problems. I surf the interwebs with no form of protection whatsoever besides the included firewall with Windows, so my question is, why do other people WITH all of these bullshit antivirus programs get targeted but not me? Is my IP invulnerable to all types of infection? Because I would assume that my computer is like a loan retarded kid who's only form of protection is a whiffleball bat against a bunch of rifle toting professional marksmen.

I just don't understand it at all...the last time I had a virus problem was 3 years ago, and the shit was so severe that I went to go take a shit, came back, and the motherfucker was infected with some shit that disabled my computer from copying and pasting, detecting newly installed devices, and cut off every device that was even considered a mass storage device, and cut off my ethernet card, effectively cutting off every route I had to saving my computer. So is it all or nothing for me? I'm sitting here right now looking at my computer and just don't get how many people get so many fucking problems with this shit...do you guys TRY to get viruses? Because that's the only reasoning I can come up with...I'm still baffled by all of this...

The thing is, I don't know anything about your computer knowledge, and even if you told me I'd still have to sit down and use your puter to judge whether it's really working as well as you think it is... So I dunno.

Update to the previous titangraph....

unfortunately, it also appears when you hit checkout :ermm: Miva

Also, I was too lazy to search for the thread zero started and put this post in there. It should most likely be found in that thread since that was the beginning of the computer drama saga. feel free to relocate this if needed... use the force
