as opposed to what 1920's?
1920s?

what does this have to do with the last 20 years or so? the NCAA is clearly all about money...especially when it comes to sports...you think they truly give a rats ass about the college athletes now days? all this money they make on the sports is outrageous, it is more of a business to them then anything...fuck some academics.

Money has been apart of college athletics for a very long time.
nothing like it is now days...if you think otherwise you have been living under a rock these last few decades.

and before you try to break down my argument piece by piece and try shoving your point down peoples throats like you always tend to do here in the sports forum when someone disagrees with you just remember....opinions are like assholes everyone has one.

i just don't understand how the money made in football is that much more important then it is in basketball is all....this is college, not the pros. people pay attention to college basketball just about the same as they do college football...its just that cfb generates more money...so they shouldn't just consider the football teams when it comes to a schools athletic program. when they do, it shows their true colors.

they are greedy...point blank and its wrong in my eyes.

You're just mad because the new team wearing red & white is better all-time than YOUR red & white team.

:siccness:

Not so much, MY red & white team is better NOW, so I'm ok with it.

WI, Indy, OSU(and silver), and Nebraska - that's kinda over load. 1/3 of the conference would be Red and White. :ermm:

Not that I'm some kinda uniform nazi. I just think it isn't cool when teams with the same colors play each other.

I haven't heard a lot of the other rumors in this thread with Texas joining the SEC or OSU accepting the PAC-10 bid. Why would Texas join what is considered the most difficult conference in the nation when they could play in a division that would be more favorable to them?

IMO this would be fun to watch, at the same time, it could backfire for the PAC10. I think the Pac-10 IS the second strongest conference, however, their bowl record last year and USC's penalties puts it at a weaker position for recruiting compared to Texas or Oklahoma. There are still 3-4 teams in the PAC that can compete with those 2 teams but imagine a conference Texas and Oklahoma could potentially win every year. Much better move in my opinion would be to take Colorado and dissolve the MWC, that is an up-and-coming conference, they could add Utah, BYU, TCU and look @ Fresno and/or Boise/Hawaii from the WAC and have the newbies in a position where they would have to adopt some of the PAC-10 style / educational requirements to mold them into PAC-10 members. Instead you're courting Texas and they'll do what they want regardless of their conference.

I have a lot of respect for the Big-12 its a great conference it certainly went 2-0 against PAC-10 in the bowls but the PAC is a great conference and its best years are still to come. This would be a nice move for all parties involved but like I said geographically, style-wise and common interests could mesh better if the above teams were added. (Yes, I know Boise has horrible academic standards and BYU is a religious school, but get them into the conference under conditions that mitigate these facts and you're in business).

college sports has ALWAYS been about money not the student athlete, and its been going on alot longer then 20 years that was my point.

ask florida which titles mean more the basketball or football 99% would tell you football, ask oklahoma, texas, tennesse, georgia, auburn, nebraska, ohio state, Michigan, etc would they rather have a football title or a basketball title, every single one will tell you football. Football is king in college, weather you like that, weather you dont believe it, weather you want to even admit it, IT IS! basketball is just icing on the cake but the foundation of ANY schools athletics is football.

Yeah thats what im hearing to.

If A&M decides to bust to the SEC, Texas is more or less cutting them off. The Pac may take Utah if they fall through, which I am more than happy to take instead. We could use the SLC market.

So now there are reports that Boise St. is moving to the MWC

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5276064
done deal!

We are pleased and excited to welcome Boise State University to the Mountain West Conference," said Commissioner Craig Thompson. "Since our inception just 11 short years ago, the Mountain West has experienced tremendous success, and the addition of Boise State will further enhance that strength. The MWC continues to strategize regarding potential membership scenarios and bringing Boise State into the Conference is an important part of that evolution."

"The invitation to join the Mountain West Conference reflects the excellence that Boise State University has demonstrated academically and athletically," said Boise State President Robert Kustra. "It will be a privilege to compete and partner with such a successful group of member institutions. This move is in the best interests of Boise State's future, and the university is excited to be part of one of the nation's most outstanding conferences."

The Mountain West Conference was founded with eight members in 1998. Boise State is the second institution to join the Mountain West since that time; TCU became a member in 2005

BSU joining dismisses Utah leaving for the Pac. In fact, look at the MWC to add MORE teams in the coming weeks...possibly including Kansas and Mizzou.

MWC is TRYING to become an AQ conference in compliance with the BCS committee.
