One source told ESPN.com that Barnes and the Magic have agreed in principle on a two-year deal for an undisclosed amount that could be announced as early as Tuesday.

The Orlando Magic made another bold acquisition on Monday, agreeing in principle on a two-year deal with free-agent forward Matt Barnes. Aaron Goodwin, the agent who represents both Barnes and All-Star Magic center Dwight Howard, confirmed the deal early Tuesday morning in a text message to the Orlando Sentinel. "He has agreed to a two-year deal, and I believe that Dwight's recruitment of him truly sealed the deal," Goodwin wrote.

The announcement Wednesday evening a resolution has been reached avoiding arbitration and allowing the Pacers to waive Jamaal Tinsley brings welcome closure for the franchise and the player. The Pacers regain a roster spot, no trivial matter.

"Jamaal and I would like to thank the Pacers for working on a resolution to this and Jamaal and I are sorry things didn’t work out," said Tinsley’s agent, Raymond Brothers. "We both wish the Pacers the best of luck in the future."

Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced today that the club has signed free agent forward Chris Wilcox to a multi-year contract. Per team policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed. “We are excited to add a young, athletic big man in Chris Wilcox,” said Dumars. “Chris provides our team with some added depth in the front court and we look forward to watching his continued development while here with the Pistons.”

Ricky Rubio plans to part ways with Spanish basketball club DKV Joventut even if the Minnesota Timberwolves cannot reach a deal to bring their first round draft pick to the NBA. Timberwolves president David Kahn was in Spain this week to try and help the fifth overall pick negotiate a buyout of his contract with Joventut.

Rubio is at odds with his boyhood club over an $8.2 million buyout clause, which the NBA team can only contribute $500,000 toward. Regardless of whether the 18-year-old Rubio makes the trip across the Atlantic next season, he won't be playing at Joventut.

"I want to continue with the club but, after everything that's happened, I don't think they're too comfortable having me in their squad," Rubio said Wednesday. "I want to play in a winning team, on a team that can achieve many things."

Theo Ratliff has gone from backing up Samuel Dalembert to backing up Tim Duncan. Ratliff, a 76ers' unrestricted free agent, has agreed to a one-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs for a little more more than $1.3 million, the minimum salary for players with at least 10 years of service in the NBA. He spent last season with the Sixers on a similar contract.

Utah is telling teams that it doesn't want merely to shed payroll in a Carlos Boozer deal. The Jazz want to come away from their eventual Boozer trade -- preferably a three-teamer to increase the likelihood of saving money -- with a rotation player. Luis Scola has been mentioned as a target Utah covets, but sources with knowledge of the Rockets' thinking say emphatically that Houston is not interested in joining the Boozer hunt.

Miami's interest in Boozer, meanwhile, inevitably would spike if the Heat managed to steal Lamar Odom away from the Lakers. Acquiring Boozer between now and February also would give the Team USA power forward full Larry Bird rights to re-sign with the Heat in the summer of 2010 irrespective of where they are in relation to the salary cap. But that interest is unlikely to fade even if Odom stays in L.A., given that Dwyane Wade apparently is eager to see Boozer join him on South Beach.

Lee is seeking a five- or six-year contract in the range of $50-60 million, with New York willing to spend something more in the area of $8 million per season. The Knicks were expected to tender an offer sheet to Bucks restricted free agent Ramon Sessions earlier this week, but the lack of any developments on that front seemed to be a signal that New York was working to get the Lee situation resolved before moving forward on any other financial commitments past the summer of 2010

The problem? Unless Portland uses its cap space to make him an offer, Lee will be relying on the Knicks to cooperate in a sign-and-trade arrangement. And it's believed that New York is determined to retain Lee and Nate Robinson on one-year deals that preserve full Bird rights for both players without obligating the Knicks to slice into their projected salary-cap space for 2010 free agency

Jason Williams' comeback from a one-year retirement will move a step closer to reality Friday after the Los Angeles Clippers formally waived their exclusive rights to negotiate with him, according to NBA front-office sources. Following the standard seven-day offseason wait to clear waivers, Williams will then become a free agent, joining Jamaal Tinsley -- who was bought out Wednesday by the Indiana Pacers -- as a late but proven addition to the summer market for point guards.

LAS VEGAS – Andre Miller(notes) will accept a three-year, $22 million offer to sign with the Portland Trail Blazers, a source close to the free-agent guard said on Friday.

The first two seasons of the contract are guaranteed while the third year is a team option.

Trail Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard cautioned that “nothing is done yet.” But a source close to Miller said he has decided to take the offer and will sign with the Blazers.

Miller will give the Trail Blazers a veteran point guard to help steady their young roster.

“He’s got great savvy and leadership,” Pritchard said from Team USA’s practice on Friday. “We like him as a player for sure.”

The Blazers had struck out in their first two attempts to sign free agents this summer. Hedo Turkoglu(notes) was close to signing with them after visiting Portland only to have a last-minute change of heart and take a five-year, $53 million deal with the Toronto Raptors. The Blazers then signed restricted free-agent forward Paul Millsap(notes) to an offer sheet that the Utah Jazz matched.

I like this pick-up. Barnes is a baller but can we get some defense?

Rasho Nesterovic is coming back to his adopted hometown. The veteran centre, who spent two seasons with the Raptors before being traded to Indiana a year ago, has agreed in principle to a one-year deal worth about $1.9 million (all figures US), the so-called biannual exception to the NBA’s salary cap.

Chris Bosh's business manager used his Twitter page to deny that he and the Raptors forward were laughing at the idea of Bosh joining the Knicks New York Knicks as a free agent. Hofstra student Ismail Humet asked Bosh about joining the Knicks and the pair seemed to get a kick out of the question. The manager, Hadi Teherany, and Bosh both say they were laughing at the idea the question was asked, not the subject of the question itself. "He was simply laughing because the caller said that out of no where, it was NOT a reaction to going or playing for the Knicks," Teherany's Twitter page says. lol
