Amare Stoudemire on his desire to remain a Sun: "I've been telling you guys ever since last February about me wanting to stay here. I love my fans. I love you guys. You guys have been very supportive during my career. I would love to stay here. But it's not my decision. My decision is to continue to improve and get ready for whatever team that is going to accept me and whatever team is ready to make the postseason.

the Cavs might be interested in sending J.J. Hickson and Wally Szczerbiak to the Charlotte Bobcats for swingman Gerald Wallace in a sign-and-trade. I explained that it probably wouldn't happen, since Wallace has $40 million left on his contract over the next four years. The only reason the Bobcats would do this is in a salary dump. I was told by a reputable source that the Cavs had not talked about anything even close to this

After a series of trades fell through this week, the Trail Blazers have settled on their next target: Utah power forward Paul Millsap. Although Millsap is a restricted free agent, meaning the Jazz can match any offer, the Blazers are preparing what one source called a "toxic" offer designed to exterminate interest from other teams.

According to sources, Boozer was told by Miller that the franchise was going in a different direction, with Boozer saying he could respect the decision but hoped the Jazz would accommodate him with a trade, a request Miller agreed the team would try to honor. "Any conversations between me and Carlos need to remain between me and Carlos," Miller wrote in a text message. "If/when there's something to say publicly, we'll announce by usual means."
There was some skepticism within the organization that such a conversation had taken place. The Jazz have stressed all along to Boozer that he should be prepared to play this season in Utah, given the difficulties associated with making trades. But such a decision in regard to trading Boozer would seem to increase the likelihood the Jazz will match Portland's offer to Millsap. The offer, however, has been structured so that Millsap will receive a $10.3 million upfront payment in a week's time. The deal calls for Millsap to receive a $5.6 million signing bonus as well as $4.7 million of his first-year salary of $6.3 million. Under NBA rules, teams can pay players up to 80 percent of their salaries for a given season in one lump sum.

..continued..

The Jazz actively are trying to trade Boozer, a two-time NBA All-Star who recently — much to the surprise of some with the franchise — opted in for the last year and final $12.65 million of his current contract. "You don't know what the case is right now, so I'm not going to speculate on anything," said point guard Deron Williams, who was hosting a charity golf tournament at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi. "If that happens that he's not here, then we can talk about it," Williams added. "But right now he's on the Jazz, he's our teammate. We'll talk about everything when it happens, if it happens."

Though a definitely discussed three-team deal that perhaps could have sent Boozer to Chicago and brought Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas to Utah collapsed Friday, the Jazz still are talking trade with multiple teams. Conversations have been spurred partly by Utah's efforts to shed salary so they can comfortably retain backup power forward Paul Millsap, who on Friday — after the three-team deal that would also have involved Portland crumbled — signed a four-year, $32 million offer sheet from the Trail Blazers.

Portland, one NBA agent said Saturday, no longer is interested in facilitating a Boozer trade — and, for all practical purposes, can't because its team payroll salary cap space currently is tied up while Utah decides whether to match on Millsap. The same agent said Oklahoma City, which also has ample cap space, doesn't want to help the Jazz by becoming part of a multi-team deal either. "There's a lot, obviously, and for all the right reasons," Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor said when asked Saturday about how much telephone conversations he's had with other teams in recent days. "They look at us and say, 'Maybe we can get so-and-so, maybe we can get so-and-so.' We're listening, and talking to everybody. There's a frenzy right now about it, and I think it will slow down a little bit."

The numbers are in for Jazz restricted free agent Paul Millsap — and they indeed are large. The offer sheet that Millsap, Utah's backup power forward, signed with Portland on Friday night calls for him to make approximately $6.2 million next season, $6.2 million in 2009-10, $6.7 million in 2010-11 and $7.2 million in 2011-2012 — plus a $5.6 million signing bonus. Moreover, both the signing bonus and about $4.7 million of the first-season salary — $4,715,400, to be more precise — must be paid with seven days after the contract is approved by the NBA. That's right: $10.3 million payable up front, within seven days.

Lamar Odom is believed to be seeking at least a $10 million contract from the Lakers. The Lakers aren’t willing to part with that kind of dough because of salary cap and luxury tax issues. The deal the Lakers were reportedly offering was for around $7 million. But the sides might not be as far apart as that. Ronnie Lester, assistant GM, told me Saturday that he heard the Lakers offer now a“little north of $8 million” and he expected a deal to get done early next week.

Indiana officials on Saturday night were waiting to formally get the offer sheet Pacers restricted free-agent guard Jarrett Jack signed with Toronto. But they were preparing for the likelihood of not matching an offer reportedly worth $20 million over four years. "If it's more than $4 million (average per season), I would think we wouldn't match it," said a Pacers source who was speaking when the source knew the deal was for four years but didn't yet know the total amount.

the 10.3 mil up front (within 7 days) for millsap is what makes the offer "toxic"-its so that if Utah wants to match the offer (and thus pay that much within 7 days), Utah will have to trade Boozer
