i hear what youre saying, but like i said in some other thread, music isnt a business (or alteast isnt supposed to be, even though thats what its become) its an art. so i have much more respect for a guy who sticks to his craft and isnt thinking about a target audience to sell to, so he can make it big or make his money.
al howard every few months or so plays at this little place called lestats in normal heights, san diego. he charges 5 bucks a head, and him and his band (the k23) will jam out seriously for like 3 hours straight. no joke.
hes not trying to make money, he just wants to play. and the 60 - 100 or so ppl in there (i cant really tell) will stay in there standing for 3 hours in some little hot ass room, cause its just great music.
im talking strictly about raw musical talent, not business brains, money, popularity etc. and all ive been trying to say is that i think, raw talent wise, i have yet to hear any san diego mc that comes close to howard - all around.
you also mentioned never hearing of al howard. does that mean you havent heard the tracks i posted up?

yeah you right in alot of ways and the business is slowly ruining the art, but I have nothing but respect for those that stay true to what they beleive in, that in itself is almost goin extinct.I guess Ive been sleeping on al howard but you definatley sparked my curiosity. he is definatley talented but the siccness is probably not his target audience,Its hard for me to classify his music.Remember divine styler in the 90s his first album was consciencious rap liked it( same type as def jef, sort of) I bought his second album and was speechless I would not know how to classify it, it was like he was overdosing on heroin then hitting the lab or something it didnt even sound like he was from this planet.
back to thr issue, i see al howard is a well rounded musician whose tastes know no boundries with some influences of rap/spoken word.
I might buy something of his but not at this time Im only 34 but i like the energy of most rap al howard i would need to mature more be more layed back, maybe its just not me.
