WHY NICK DIAZ THOUGH??? HE FEEL SAD FOR NICK AFTER HEARING NICK SAY HE WAS BROKE AND WANTED TO GIVE HIM A LIL PART TIME JOB?
OR DOES HE PLAN TO GIVE MARGARITO A GO GO PLATA?
cotto enjoys mma. nick has a similar style to margarito, basically the mma version-- come forward always, never run out of gas, punches slower but with volume, get you up against the cage/ropes, hit up the body, strong chin.. but theres no excuse for helping cotto in this bout. fuck that.

yeah, i do get the joke though. lol..

Margarito OK to fight in Mississippi, rematch vs. Cotto to be moved

The Mississippi Athletic Commission has granted a boxing license to Antonio Margarito and by extension cleared the way for the former welterweight champion to fight four-time world champion Miguel Cotto on Dec. 3 at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, Miss., an industry source told CBSSports.com on Thursday.

The fight would be televised by HBO PPV.

SI.com's Chris Mannix reported earlier Thursday that the New York State Athletic Commission planned to reject Margarito's license application, which would effectively force the highly anticipated rematch away from New York's Madison Square Garden.

The New York State Athletic Commission originally denied Margarito a license last month because of issues with an eye injury the Mexican star suffered in a 2010 loss to Manny Pacquiao.

A source told CBSSports.com that doctors in Mississippi have examined Margarito's eye and given him the OK to fight in their state, and that the championship event is "really close" to being moved to the DCC.

A formal announcement could be made by the end of the day.

Cotto (36-2) and Margarito (38-7) first fought in 2008. Margarito won that brutal fight by TKO in the 11th round of one of the Fights of the Year.

How long you've been trying? 2011 has been an odd year. the biggest fights have been let downs for sure (besides pac vs marquez which I thought was a great fight, the fight on the undercard was absolutely sick imo too), there have been plenty of good smaller fights though like both Brandon Rios vs Acosta/Antillon, Kirkland/Angulo, Pawel Wolak/Delvin Rodriguez, Macklin/Sturm, Berto/Ortiz, Jorge Arce/Vazquez Jr, JuanMa/Salido, Donaire/Montiel, Hernan Marquez/Luis Concepcion, etc etc etc. Friday Night Fights was pretty awesome this year too.

The Margarito license hearing is beginning right now, only a half hour late. #boxing

This is ridiculous. Commissioners voted to move to something called "executive session" and have left the room. Not sure what happens now.

Your NY tax dollars hard at with this sham of a hearing on Margarito's license. #boxing

I think this order for Margarito means ultimately the fight will stay in NY. Too much political and financial pressure to let it go.

Commission passing the buck here. Seems to me it will find a doctor and that doctor will approve Margarito and then commission is shieled.

On phone with Arum right now. Says he is fine with Margarito submitting to a NY doctor exam. "It's better than a denial." #boxing

They want Marg to come to NY to be examined. Meeting will be in recess until they know if Margs will come to NY for the exam. Unreal.

Commission instructed Margarito lawyer to contact him and see if he will submit to an exam. Commission gave him 1 hr to contact Margs.

They are not voting. Ultimate political nonsense. NYSAC says it wants Margarito to submit to an exam by a doc of NY's selection. (more)

I hope the NY Commission was ready to reimburse all of the fans who payed hard earned money to take the trip out there, and all of the people who bought tickets.

Can't place the blame on Arum in this case, but damn...what a let down if this fight were not to go down in NY.

damn, his eye was a lot more fucked up then I thought...

Margarito, 33, thought his career was over once he underwent surgery to repair a broken right orbital bone following the brutal beating he absorbed against Manny Pacquiao in their one-sided, 12-round fight last Nov. 13 in Arlington, Texas. His vision remained blurry for several months thereafter, but subsequent cataract surgery May 19 at the University of Utah’s John A. Moran Eye Center enabled Margarito to resume training and commit to his grudge rematch against Cotto. During the May procedure, Margarito had an artificial lens inserted in the eye.

He returned to boxing training in July and said after a Sept. 20 press conference in New York to promote the fight that, “I’m physically ready and I’m mentally ready.”

“The Tijuana Tornado” has visited Dr. Alan S. Crandall, who performed the cataract surgery, at least once a month in Salt Lake City since the procedure. Crandall testified before the NYSAC on Wednesday that Margarito should be allowed to fight Cotto because his right eye has been properly repaired.

See, I like Robert Garcia as a trainer, but he should have stopped the Pacquiao-Margarito fight long before the final bell. Fuck that "he wouldn't have allowed me to" bullshit. Could have saved him some of the agony he's been through coming up to this fight.

I understand the whole pride thing, but there's is a thin line between pride and stupidity.

Again Top Rank knew Margarito's eye was fucked up but they still made the fight. Top Rank is cashing in on Margarito's name to bleed all the money they can out of him.

Couple insightful thoughts I read.....

I don't think anyone understands the process of staging a fight, but the NYSAC knew Margarito was coming off the injury, Melvina Lathan was present for the September press conference and even spoke about how happy she was with the fight and there was NO INDICATION from the NYSAC that Margarito would have to undergo a special examination to get a license.

I love how people keep blaming Arum, I thought it was him as well yesterday but the more facts that come out the worse this looks for the NYSAC. I can't help but wonder that this solely revolves around the UFC lawsuit which was brought up at the time that the NYSAC said they would have a meeting with Marg on his eye. (This happened on Oct. 31 I believe) Really, I can't blame the NYSAC they ban MMA but they'll put a boxer in a fight with a bum eye. MMA should be legal in NY just a bunch of political lobbyist greasing some guys palms. There is too much money/time/production already put in this thing to cancel it I think. It'll will generate more than enough money to cover the UFC lawsuit costs.
