simple minded folk are the ones who don't judge color, culture, religion...
simple minded folk are the ones who love everything without prejudice
I disagree. While there is no justification for "judging" a person based solely on their color or religion, we are also not in a position to act as if we don't have to discriminate between a criminal and a civil person, or to pretend that we are "blank slates", who hold zero prejudices against anyone or anything and love everything with perfect equality.
Do you love getting a kiss from a woman equally as you love getting a bullet to the face? I doubt it. I'm sure you would prefer a kiss over a bullet any day.
To view the world as being perfectly equal in all respects is just not possible for us at this time, but the extent of our discrimination is the key. Some let it override their outlook, and others can keep it in perspective.
But when I said "simple-minded folk", I was talking about a specific type of person, the type of person who absorbs all the bullshit marketing hype that the media feeds them, and accepts it unquestioningly. This fool ignorantly assumes that the actual personality of that person is identical to the fabricated advertising image presented on tv and magazines.
This person is completely ignorant as to the *real* personality or character of the star who they worship, and when the same media which built the star up turns around and shows them engaging in some real life dumb shit or illegal shit, this simple-minded fool is *shocked* and *disappointed* to find out that this irreproachable angel was actually just a regular muthafucka like everyone else.
Or, if they are not disappointed by the actions of the star, then they blame the media for trying to "tear down a good person", and they make excuses for them. Some cats get so attached to the image they have seen that they refuse to see things as they are, and blind themselves to reality.
I am a simple-minded cat myself. The phrase itself is not derogatory as far as I can tell, and living a simple life is actually a sign of great intelligence. But I was just referring to people who don't read between the lines, people who let the media cover their vision with a blanket of lies and misrepresentations, and then defend or condemn the actions of a star based upon their reaction to what the media has shown them.
I don't know about you, but I don't think any more or less of Kobe after this shit. I did not buy into the whole "mr. morality", "mr. role model", "mr. exemplary who is never in trouble" nonsense that the media tried to force feed us with. I *KNEW* that Kobe was not and could not be all the things the media wanted us to believe. They want us to believe that shit so that we will buy his shoes, jerseys, go to his games, and all that shit. So given their agenda, how could I possibly trust the character image they are painting of Kobe? And sure enough it turns out that if you believed that flawless angelic image of Kobe you believed in an untruth.
So by me being simple-minded I have no chance of being fooled by the marketing machine, but at the same time there are simple-minded cats who are buying into everything they are shown, and they can't believe that Kobe the "good guy" would ever do such a thing.
sorry folks, i just don't like you using that phrase the way you did
especially you, cus you're a smart cat
Thanks mayn, it's all good. I honestly do not think that being simple-minded is a negative thing, but in certain areas we need to be intelligent and be able to discern actual facts from concocted images. The cats who cannot make this distinction are too simple-minded for their own good, and end up looking like fools. Those are the ones I was talking about.
Peace
