What people don't realize is Floyd always prefers 8oz gloves. He hated wearing 10oz gloves against Oscar. He requested 8oz gloves against Canelo, which was turned down. He requested 8oz gloved against Cotto, which was turned down.
Normally tho 154 is 10oz, but occasionally if two fighters both request 8oz gloves then it can happen, such was the case with Pacquiao vs Margarito.
Anyways, I find it quite comical there are legitimately a lot of people who think Conor had a real shot at winning or at worst has a "punchers chance". A guy who is 0-0 making his debut. With very little amateur boxing background when he was a teenager. Pacquiao, Cotto, Canelo, these guys had a "punchers chance", because they were ELITE boxers who boxed since they were little kids. None of these guys came close to winning. So how is a guy who is slow as fuck in boxing speed going yo trouble Floyd? Some say he's unorthodox, so that will be Floyd down fall. I would agree if he was a relentless pressure fighter like Maidana, who is unorthodox. But Maidana was incredibly skilled at applying pressure which took him years and years to perfect. It's not something you can simply learn in a couple of months.
So for the sport of boxing, I'll be glad to watch Floyd humiliate Conor in the ring, hopefully these people who think it's so easy will give the sport a little more respect (probably not, but still, a point should be made here).
i could see that being scored a knockdown. There was some shove/trip in there as well.
Paulie is the weakest puncher to make it as far as he did in boxing and Paulie is out of shape, retired, and overall not prepared to spar 12 rounds. He was probably the safest choice in a sparring partner one could find.
HOWEVER ------
In that clip Conor McGregor is legitimately shitting on everyone (Paulie included) who acted like he would be just destroyed by amateur boxers/child boxers/female boxers etc. and had no business sharing the ring with the lowest tier of fighter in boxing. There's no denying this. Even if this is just a small moment in the spar, its still a moment that he was not supposed to have according to most.
That being said---This is NO Indicator of how McGregor will do against Mayweather.
It's only fair to point out that Paulie is a SHOT fighter and is retired as a result of being shot. We last saw him professionally get knocked out by Sam Eggington. Prior to that he suffered back to back KO defeats against Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter (2015, 2014).
I'd also like to point out that Paulie never was a very good fighter. He does so many incorrect things in the ring, besides being feather fisted, that you'd think he would have corrected by now and his claim to fame was getting his ass kicked by Miguel Cotto but because he showed "heart" by not getting knocked out people thought he was "tough". That's it, that's his greatest accomplishment.
So I don't really know what it says about Conor and his Boxing abilities - getting a knock down in later rounds of sparring, and landing a good combo in round 11 of that sparring (Dana White's edited video made it seem like that combo came before the knockdown when it really came a couple rounds after) against a washed up, retired shot fighter could mean very little at all, or it could mean he's decently skilled. I mean again, Sam Eggington knocked him out in 8 rounds and Porter, who is a much better fighter than Eggington at least, destroyed him in less than four rounds.
I just don't think Paulie had nearly the same reflexes as he used to and has trouble avoiding what normally would have been easy to avoid shots and he can no longer take a punch. So it is what it is. But it sure as hell has given Conor's fans a false sense of where his skills are at.
Regarding Paulie's statements - he's always been a giant liar. He's so prideful that anything that could somehow be a negative about himself he flips out and goes crazy, lying to try to make himself look better. Like when he picked Cotto to beat Pacquiao, he said Pac would be one of the best fighters on the planet if he beats Cotto. Then or course Pac wins and Paulie went on tirade after tirade about how Pac must be on roids, simply because Cotto whooped Paulie's ass so he simply couldn't comprehend how someone could whoop Cotto. Dude is a scumbag and always has been a phony and a liar.
Just read the CEO of MGM Resorts in Vegas said due to the current betting lines a McGregor win would become the biggest financial loss in MGM Resorts company history lol

Only way conor wins this is if he clips him. no other way around it, Floyd has said numerous times that he's going for the ko and that he's gonna be aggressive and not his usual defensive stance mode. I know Floyd has said that a whole lotta times but I think IMO that he's underestimating conor's skills. there's no secret, dude has hands whether in the cage or a ring he gets it done. most importantly is that dude has so much confidence its scary...
