Good news for soto:

WBC Will Not Recognize Humberto Soto's DQ Loss

By Mark Vester

In one of the more controversial happenings in the last few months, Humberto Soto (43-7-2, 27 KOs) was disqualified in the fourth-round of his bout with Francisco Lorenzo (33-4, 14 KOs) on Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The fight was the co-feature to Manny Pacquiao-David Diaz.

For all four-rounds, it was a one-sided fighted with Soto battering Lorenzo into a bloody mess. Lorenzo was dropped was dropped hard in the fourth, and after taking some more punishment, he decided to take a knee as Soto was throwing a combination of punches. Referee Joe Cortez would at this point stop the fight and claimed that Soto hit Lorenzo when he was down.

Cortez would take a few minutes to speak with Nevada State officials before issuing a disqualification call against Soto. Despite several television replays showing that Soto's punches never connected when Lorenzo was down, the result stood.

The fight was for the WBC's interim-super featherweight title. Due to the controversial nature of the fight, the sanctioning body refused to give Lorenzo the title since the winner could ultimately become the full champion with Pacquiao [the current super feathweight champ of the WBC] moving up in weight and capturing the WBC lightweight title. The WBC will view the final result as a draw and have ordered an immediate rematch.

you guys think the fight mightve been a little different had diaz not got cut above his right eyebrow from the accidental headbutt?
No, not at all. Manny was the far superior fighter tonight in every category - speed, defense, power, footwork, boxing, etc. Plus, pacquaio was beating his ass just as bad prior to the cut.

I think it was right after the 4th round when Diaz said to his cornerman, "he's too fast, he's too fast." I think that was pretty clear sign that Diaz knew he couldn't win the fight.

I also think it's clear who the best pound 4 pound fighter in the world is too. I just don't know if anyone can fuck with him. Only two guys that may be able to give him trouble are Marquez and Joan Guzman, imo.

X2...

I am not really a Pacman fan, but he's a fucking badass.

Fuck him, though...MARQUEZ is the man. LOL

Also...rofl @ Diaz. He's funny...

And I almost died at the beginning, during the ring entrances, when a (female) Pacman fan had a sign...something like "Pacquiao p4p champ" or some shit, and some dude with her (husband, maybe) had a sign that said "Manny marry me"...

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha wrong signs? Or...

For anyone who didn't see the fight, or who wants to catch a stream in full:

Just watched it again...for about the 3rd time...and I have to say that I am still amazed by how much better Manny looks...even just from his last fight.

His in & out movement was spectacular...and as a result...his defense looks like it has improved ten-fold...he was slipping & picking off shots with his gloves...and really just keeping Diaz off balance pretty much the whole fight.

Also, Great footwork, and it seems as if he brought his speed up with him.

^ Cotto is great, and has the toughest fight of his career ahead of him. Margarito is no fucking joke...he's going to be by far the hardest & most relentless puncher Cotto has ever faced. Plus, Tony's got a pretty good height & reach advantage.

But Cotto is amazing and always finds a way to pull through. He is deceptively fast too.

yeah, I agree. His movement was great. He did these little feints that fucked diaz all up. Here is a gif I made of this nasty hook pacman landed, you can tell he confused diaz by his movement. The gif doesn't really show the hit all that well but the movement is whats important:

also, he was just too fast for diaz, he beat diaz to the punch every time. Diaz would throw something and get popped twice. Another gif:

And finally pacman is just too much when he lets his fist fly, cant fuck with that:
