From what I've read so far, I can tell many of you haven't played basketball at a competitive level. What happened WAS plain as day: Kobe swung his arm at Manu, not out of frustration, or to hit/hurt him intentionally, but to try to draw a foul on the play. Reggie Miller was great at kicking his leg out at an opponent trying to block/defend his shot, and he got the call EVERY time, as do most players. Kobe was looking for a foul, and Manu got hit. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. Last night Jeffries (I think) from the Knicks got smacked in the head by Brian Cook, on a late shot, who was LOOKING TO DRAW A FOUL. No suspension there. Manu's reaction, the fact it was on national television, and the fact it was KOBE is what drew the suspension.

when does the follow through of your shot flail sideways?
You've never seen Tayshaun Prince shoot have you? :)

If you watch enough basketball you'll see it happen pretty often.

I still find it funny that cats have nothing to say about Brian Cook NOT being suspended for doing the same thing.

Cats hate just because they think it's the thing to do.

true...

still dont change tha fact that he got a forearm to tha face tho.
True...

Still don't change the fact that you see Ginobilli do that to people on a nightly basis when he drives to the bucket lookin to draw contact. The shit he does is a lot more wild and dangerous (because it's overtly intentional and the league knows it) than what Kobe did ... once... unintentionally

The only difference in this situation is Manu is the one getting cracked in the face for once.

it WAS intentional tho, just face it....Kobe was  that Gino blocked his "gametime" shot, he flung his arm down after tha shot and clobbered him.

all im sayin is this.....

stand up and act like you are takin a jumpshot real quick, and you will see it is unnatural for your arm to do that after tha shot, and tha last i checked you try to draw contact before or during tha shot....not afterwards. He was clearly bein a baby due to tha fact that Gino blocked his shot and wanted to get back at him by tryin somethin slick and was caught redhanded.

Lemme break it down... I'm not a Kobe lover/hater either, I'm a pure basketball fan so my perspective is all about basketball. Not about personalities or any of that shit that aint got nothin to do with the ball goin in the basket...

1) Tell that to Tayshaun Prince. He's a lefty and his right arm flails out to the right after he releases his jumper.

2) Watch enough basketball and you'll see cats puttin "body english" on their shots after they release. The ol' hopping up and down on one leg, or the leaning to one side, or either of your arms flailing to either side, etc...

Reggie Miller made it cool to draw contact after the release of the shot.

To me it was unintentional... Watch any player who gets the ball stripped from him. If the ball is stripped from below their waist as they're going up for the shot, their arms flail up and out as a reflex because they were surprised that the ball was stripped. Coupled with the fact that their arms are on their way up anyway.

To me, same thing happened here (along with Kobe trying to draw a foul). I've seen this kind of thing 1,000 times (have done it myself). If you watch the play, Kobe thought he was wide open because Bowen bit on the pump fake. Ginobilli surprised him by blocking his shot causing that reflex I was talking about earlier. Again, if you watch enough basketball you'll see this happen a lot. It doesn't usually result in people getting hit in the face, but it happens.

I hear ya bro, i really do...like they said on sportscenter....its open for interpertation...but here is my problem....

Kobe's situation was alot different than tha way Prince shoots, Kobe shot tha ball with tha same arm he used to clobber Gino. I dont know any player that flails his shooting arm out like that and with such force after shooting a shot....none. Maybe you can name some players or show me some footage of a player doin it, but i dont ever remember seeing anyother player do that unless it was intentional.

Thing is he didnt get tha ball stripped from him below his waist, his shot was blocked from tha side. Wouldnt that mean his arm would most likely keep goin up as if he was still in tha motion of shooting? Yes. But It didnt, his arm came down and out meaning...he knew what he was doing and slammed his arm down in disgust right into Ginos face. Maybe he didnt know his face was right there, but he did know that he was there.

Kobe knew what he was doin....If I woulda been in his position I would have done tha same exact thing...I would have been frustrated just like he was knowin my game changin shot was just blocked when I thought i had an open look...In my mind woulda been some shit like "MOTHA FUCKA" or "WHAT THA FUCK" or "FUCKKKKKKK", as SOON as I realized it was blocked. Out of frustration my arm would have flailed out like that and instinctvly kind have shoved tha person away, but not like what Kobe did though, his arm came down with FORCE and smacked Manu across tha cranium.

Now did he deserve to get suspended? No. Does he deserve a fine? No.

But he does deserve to be called out on his "cheap shot"...
