Damn PressPlay got some psychic in him lol....The mayor of SF is now tryin to regulate pit ownership in the city....but NOT ban them...I think it's a good idea

Imagine being told you have ten days to get rid of your dog.

That's what pet owners in Caraway, Arkansas, were recently ordered to do after the city council passed an ordinance in May that bans pit bulls, Dobermans and Rottweilers from being kept in the city.

Caraway now joins about 200 cities and towns throughout the United States that restrict or prohibit ownership of certain breeds of dogs, according to the American Canine Foundation in Belfair, Washington, an organization dedicated to fighting against such legislation.

Large, powerful dogs are frequently targeted, including Akitas, chow chows, Dalmatians, Dobermans, German Shepherds, Great Danes, pit bulls, Rottweilers as well as mixes of these breeds.

Cities like Miami (Florida), Pawtucket (Rhode Island), and Cincinnati (Ohio) ban breeds they deem dangerous or vicious. Other communities place restrictions on owners, such as requiring that they carry liability insurance or muzzle their pets in public.

The laws are often passed after a fatal dog attack in a community and city officials want to protect the public from future incidents.

But animal organizations say breed bans don't keep residents safe because they fail to target the real problem: irresponsible pet owners.

Where does it stop? Pretty soon all Dogs will be banned except small dogs.

some people in this thread has already been informative about the misconception about pits.. its bascially dumb ass people that mistreat the dogs and turn them crazy.. like what someone said in this thread, no one talks about when other types of dogs attacc someone but once a pit bites someone all hell raises.. people have given pits a bad reputation.. i can't really see how you can "regulate ownership" of a pit, what the fucc they gonna base it off of, if you have a criminal history or something? what about the people that have pits and fight them that don't have a record? i dont see it happenin man, you might as well ban them but that's even a stupider idea.

Theres a lot of intelligence in this thread and they'res equally ignorance responses as well. A Big r.i.p. to the boy who got attacked. My niece told me about this occurance just as i touched down from vegas earlier today. I have to defend my APBTs just because of my 15+ years of breeding the breed. Incompetent people shouldnt breed, raise animals let alone make babies themselves. The pitbull gives the APBT a bad wrap just as someone explained it a few pages back. I do agree any dog that attacks a human needs to be put down. That goes for APBTS just as your other 200+ breed of canines. Im not gonna go into a huge discussion why APBTs are good/bad but its the owners faults not the dogs. How you raise your pets reflects on your responsibilities. If you ever watch the animal planet you can see first hand how people in the inner cities in general raise their pets. If you were to walk the streets of SF lets say the hunters point area as too the valencia area. You will see "pitbull owners mistreating their dogs as to a "pitbull" owner in valencia giving his dogs command to heel when walking stop, sit when at a crosswalk. Just think about this if you have a puppy at an early age, dont matter what breed it is and you play tug of war with him with a sock, shirt, a pair of jeans etc, the puppy is gonna think its okay for him to go after it. To cartoon I commend you for your knowledge of animals...
I too would rather jump into a yard with pit bulls than any other large breed dogs that are bred to guard.........

for the most part, i hate dogs, and i got bit in the leg by a vicious one while delivering in pleasanton a few months ago.... and i would've attempted to beat it to death with the edge of the base of my dolly if the owners sister wasn't there trying to subdue it.....

about 2 months ago, i went back to the same townhouse with a package for the owner of that same dog and i rang the doorbell on the fence.... the dog started barking right behind the fence.... and when nobody answered, i tossed the box over the fence and it landed right on top of the dog.... all i could hear after that was the dog yell in pain as it landed on its head..... that shit made my day :devious:

Since I live half an hour away from the mauling, I know a breed ban will not pass without a fight. BADRAP is situated here and most of us (Bay Area dog people) are fairly knowledgable about why these dogs turn "vicious" and what provokes these dogs to attack (poor, irresponsible breeding for certain traits -size- and owner responsibility).

I also agree that most people tend to assume that any dog who bites is a pit bull. In fact, the "pit bulls" who mauled the twelve year old is actually, according to most people, a BYB American Bulldog.

This is Rex, the "pit" in question:
