As you know, little hallucinations aren't uncommon during sleep paralysis... these people probably just have full-on hallucinations that they are leaving their body... this also makes sense because as you may or may not know, hallucinations during sleep paralysis are actually just you're brain making sense of whats going on.
i.e. someone who believes in ghosts might wake up to see the ghost of someone strangling them(or sitting on them).. or someone who is interested in aliens and extra terresterials might wake up to a bug-eyed grey creature staring down at them.... anyways ur brain is trying to make sense of what is going on and it sometimes creates hallucinations, which can be as simple as hearing someone else in the room, or feeling an unknown presence.
these people who believe they have expierenced astral projection, perhaps they simply have hallucinations of leaving their body as their brain makes sense of what is going on in this paralyzed state. Don't you think it makes sense?
Also.. the method that Nostradamus is speculated to have used you have to lay on ur back, and you can't let youself get into deep sleep, but a slightly aware sleep (which is when sleep paralysis usually happens.)
Yea, when I was younger my parents thought I was skitzo cuz I would run crying to them in the middle of night telling them that some man kept coming in my room and holding me down.
I had a lot of anxiety problems because I too, thought I was going crazy. You have no idea how much trouble this caused me, until i learned that i had a simple condition known as sleep paralysis
