Chavez Jr. Receiving $3 Million, Martinez Snagging $1.4

By Rick Reeno

According to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-0-1, 32KOs) is receiving a purse of $3 million dollars for this Saturday's defense against Sergio Martinez (49-2-2, 28KOs), who grabs a career high $1.4 million. Both fighters are sure to earn additional revenue from the purchases of their HBO pay-per-view. The fight takes place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

WOW Jr is making 2x as much as Sergio. I see why Sergio is so mad.

Edging for martinez, wouldnt be shocked if chavez koed him tho. Chavez jr has been getting better every fight and martinez has been geting older. Martinez can box but he has been getting tagged a lot from some b class fighters. Chavez is not a class, but hes young and getting paid like one

Martinez knows he will never be a house hold name. He's too old and really no one outside of the boxing world cares about him.

This is Chavez's chance to become an absolute star. He win's, He automatically makes Double that purse in his next big fight.

Martinez, he win's he'll have to fight a huge name to get a bigger payday.

I got Chavez. TKO in the 9th round

goin' for martinez. i just think he got the skills to do it but calling a tko/ko or decision is hard?

chavez j.r. is too one dimensional for me. i don't think chavez j.r. is ready for this caliber of fighter?

it's gonna be a good fight no doubt tho..

kinda cold ya'll takin' shots @ martinez tho i mean the dude adopted a couple abused kids and set up a foundation for such. good dude in my book.

(edit) i was there for the second highest attendance in the Thomas and Mack Center.

Ayyyy......I think Martinez is a legitimate character. He seems like a reallllllll cool dude.

I'm just saying though.......He comes off like a 100% homosexual.

I ain't trying to take shots at him. I think he is a helluva boxer too!
Chavez has done nothing but get better in his last 3 fights. I haven't seen him get hurt 1 time in his last 3-4 fights and he has been fighting better competition. Nothing like Martinez I know.

I'd be betting the upset if I was betting.

Chavez.

Officially sold out - 19,186 tickets. The highest attended boxing event ever at the Thomas & Mack center.

Nice.

Although I'm sure a big chunk of those tickets went to ticket brokers, it shows the demand is there.

I'm flying out to Vegas tomorrow, gonna try to get some last second tickets to this on Friday or Saturday. The smaller ticket brokers like Razor Gator are usually willing to wheel & deal a little bit.
