OAKLAND, Calif. (KTLA) -- The former San Francisco Bay area police officer convicted of killing a man in an Oakland train station scuffle is being released from prison.
An L.A. Superior Court Judge ordered Johannes Mehserle to be released from prison Monday.
Mehserle was convicted in July 2010 and sentenced in November 2010 to two years in prison for involuntary manslaughter in the death of Oscar Grant.
With good-conduct credits, Mehserle's total custody amounts to 731 days served, equaling the sentence imposed.
The jury found that Mehserle didn't mean to kill Grant, but that his behavior was still so negligent that it was criminal.
The case was prosecuted in Los Angeles due to public reaction in the Bay Area
