You know damn well it aint that simple Shea. It didn't bother me on a racial level personally, it bothered me on a wack comedy level. But you shouldn't discount those who feel they have a legitimate gripe with something like this considering the history in this country...

I actually only read the initial maybe first 3 posts... not trying to shit on you Dion.

But all in all, like I said.... it's not a big issue when kung fu panda has an over-exaggerated asian.

It's not that big of a deal when Patrick Star & SpongeBob sound overly white.

It's not that big of a deal when King Julian on Madagascar sounds overly middle eastern.

.....but when a Transformer sounds like a 'jive talking black man' ....ohhhhh nooooo!!! everyone got something to say.... oooohhhhh noooooo!!!!!

not a personal shot @ you in the least, but I think it is silly to nit-pick 1 thing, but not the next. I mean, it IS all about equality, right?

I aint trippin on it like that though Shea.

The difference would be the history of blacks in this country versus the history of other races. That's why people take offense... still. I don't get bent out of shape about it, personally, but that doesn't mean other people can't or shouldn't.

If it didn't bother you that's all good, but you can't say it shouldn't bother anybody. It's 15 bazillion types of black folks in the world, why is this THE one personality type the one that has to be portrayed over and over and over?
it is portrayed because it is funny. maybee not to you and that is fine. you have a right to an opinion like us all. no harm in disagreement. it is a stereotype but not a rallying cry for other racist organizations to blow it out of proportion and think someone is taking a jab at african americans. shea summed it up above.

And those who use it as a rallying cry are also entitled to their opinion.

Maybe they see an accumulation of stuff like this and they feel they need to say something. Why they may chose THIS particular movie to kick off their argument should be questioned if anything.

Like I said earlier (might be in this or another thread), the biggest problem to me is that those who view these characters as perpetuating a stereotype, assume they are automatically immitating black folks.

you are right. i'm not disagreeing. my point is that some minority individuals/organization stir the pot every chance they get. promoting the same racist behavior they supposedly oppose. i am color blind and have folks of all races. i am not blind to the oppression one time promoted in this country but that is generations ago. now it's an economic divide more than anything. minorities havent recovered completely from those racist times and now our government should reach out when economically feasible and provide resources and more importantly HOPE to those communities they seemingly left to fend for themselves. a movie is entertainment. nothing more, nothing less.

Native Americans and Asians do complain they just aren't the leading minorities// whites can be portrayed negatively but since there are so many positive depictions of white people out there, a negative attributed white person/character is looked at as an individual, not so much minority groups.

It's funny cuz some of the same shit you are saying SHEA, white folks were saying about blacks complaining, back in the day, about being portrayed as mammys, shuckin and jivin, blackface, and stuff that you would consider to be really racist. It's not hard to balance shit out, you say Optimus Prime sounds like a corny white dude, wel almost all the other transformers have white voices and they don't have corny white voices. There's one black transformer and he's all talking some jive bullshit.

You guys are even missing the irony that the film makers pointed out unknowingly... they said, if a transformer were to actually scan human media this would be the depiction of gangstas, urban culture, etc. (coding: black people- because there are other kind of gangsters who don't talk ebonics). You know what that means, the media acknowledges there is one kind of overwhelming depiction of blacks, and it's not a normal, or intelligent one.
