So it looks like Taylor (27-1-1, 17KOs) will exercise his option for an immediate rematch with Kelly Pavlik (32-0, 29KOs) for January/February (this will undoubtedly postpone the Pavlik/Duddy fight). Pursuant to the contract, the fight is scheduled to take place at 166-pounds, but the agreed upon weight has not been confirmed.

I still think Pavlik is the underdog in this. Maybe Taylor will take this fight a little more serious now that he got KO'd and lost his title. I haven't ever really bought into "the Ghost" and don't think his opponents have either, which is why he keeps winning.

If he takes Taylor this time, I'll conceed that Pavlik is the real deal.

IMO, Jermain Taylor has what it takes to beat Pavlik, and to do it early. KO is highly likely in this fight, but he musn't come in bombing away with disregard to Pavlik's power, trying to prove something.

When Taylor was first gaining noteriety, around the Hopkins fights, I thought this kid would be something special, a real star. He hasn't lived up to that, but I don't think he's reached his potential, yet. He needs to focus more, IMO, and take this fight as serious as any he's ever had, even more than Hopkins. This fight could make or break him, and I hope he does get a KO, and I think he will.

Yeah mayne... and Pavlik was "almost" knocked out... Taylor was winning the fight and was ahead on all of the judges score cards. Taylor has him on the hand speed...

He wasn't ahead on my score card, thats for sure. Taylor won probably the first round, 2nd round of course, then after that Pavlik won most if not all the rounds. Pavlik was kind of fucking him up with the jab and right cross. I've watched it like 4 times now, it's clear as day Pavlik was winning the fight (I don't care what the official judges had it scored either - anyone that knows boxing would tell you Pavlik was ahead).

No doubt he almost got knocked out though. That's the only real question in my mind is whether or not Pavlik could survive a storm like that again if Taylor brings that kind of heat early on.

AND HE FOUGHT ALL THE WAY BACK AND BEAT THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF TAYLOR. COMPLETELY DESTROYED HIM.

I'D TAKE HEART, POWER, STAMINA AND PATIENCE OVER HANDSPEED.

HAND SPEED IS OVERRATED.

I had Taylor ahead on my scorecards. Pavlik was coming on though... he backed Taylor on the ropes and caught him with a good right hand. He should have listened to Manny because he was telling him to watch for his right hand. All Taylor has to do is not let Pavlik back him into the ropes. He was doing a good job of fighting off of the ropes. Taylor just has to let his hands loose... and keep the fight in the middle of the ring.

Pavlik just landed a good right hand that caught Taylor and dazed him. Pavlik is a very, very good finisher I will say that. But I wouldn't say handspeed is overrated though.. because Taylor had Pavlik drunk. We'll what happens in a rematch..... I say Taylor by KO.

Looks like the fight will take place at 166 pounds. This should be factored in as well.

Taylor jumps at opportunity for another shot at Pavlik

Jermain Taylor, who lost the middleweight championship when Kelly Pavlik knocked him out in the seventh round of their Sept. 29 fight, has exercised his contractual option for an immediate rematch, Taylor promoter Lou DiBella said Tuesday.

[...]

The rematch probably will happen in mid-to-late February, with the 16th the frontrunner as the date, but it will depend on HBO's schedule. Contractually, the rematch must take place within 150 days of the first fight.

[...]

HBO already has two major fights in the works for the month, a Feb. 2 welterweight unification match between Paul Williams and Kermit Cintron and a probable Feb. 23 heavyweight title defense by Wladimir Klitschko.

[...]

One detail that was ironed out when the rematch clause was written was that the fight will be a non-title bout unless the sides agree to tweak the terms. The rematch clause calls for the fight to take place at a maximum weight of 166 pounds, which is six more than the middleweight limit.

"It will be at 166," DiBella said. "That's what both sides seem to acknowledge right now."

[...]

Pavlik's camp had been exploring an optional fight for Jan. 26 against popular Irishman John Duddy. Cameron Dunkin, Pavlik's manager, said their team is fine with the Taylor rematch instead.

You have to admit it was more than just one good shot. Pavlik was landing that stiff jab and right hook prior to the KO, which is what was able to set up the KO in the first place. Without the jab, there is no KO.

And I seriously don't know how you had Taylor ahead on the scorecards, but whatever. I thought it was pretty clear Pavlik was winning the rounds after the 2nd.

I'll say Pavlik can do it again. I did have Taylor up and the time he was knocked out, but Taylor's face was starting to shows the signs of a massive beatdown by that time. I don't think there's any way Taylor could survive for 12 rounds against Kelly. He would have to hope for another good shot like he had in the 2nd again.

Yeah it was more than one shot that did Taylor in but it was that one shot that dazed him and Pavlik just finished him. I am not taking anything away from Pavlik but it was that one good right hand that did Taylor in. He got caught flush wit hit no doubt about it.

But yeah I had Taylor winning the fight. He was well ahead in my opinion.

Look at how Bert Sugar had it scored:

Round One

Jermain Taylor came out from the get go throwing punches, many were missing he was trying for a quick knock out. Pavlik stood his ground, took several but stood his ground. Pavlik landed several right hands to Taylor, most of which were on the inside, but many which landed.

10-9 Taylor

Round Two

Going into the second round, Taylor caught Kelly with a right hand, stunning him, following up with a flurry of punches, all of which caught him, driving him to the c canvas. Pavlik got up on unsteady legs, and was met with Taylor's second flurry of punches, nearly driving him down. In the end, Taylor unable to p;ull him self away from Pavlik's clinching inside.

Taylor 10-7

Round Three

Coming back from seeming defeat in the 2nd, Pavlik parried the action to Taylor, pinning him on the ropes landing punch after punch. Though taylor managed to landing a couple good punches it was all Pavlik, particularly on the inside.

Pavlik 10-9

Round Four

In a round that started as a jabbing contest, Taylor--more in control of his punches than in the first two rounds, when he mounted a frenzied attack--landing several telling blows, though twice Pavlik twice backed him into a corner, where he does not want to be and let them fly...

Taylor 10-9

Round Five

Double pumping his jab, the faster-handed Taylor carried most of the round, although Pavlik himself landed several good jab. the best punch was landed seconds after the bell by taylor, a overhand right.

Taylor 10-9

Round Six

Although Pavlik was closing the real estate, it was still the faster hands of taylor that were doing most of the work and post of the punches, mostly jabs. Caught on the ropes twice, he rallied off the ropes with the harder punches.

Taylor 10-9

Round Seven

Pavlik began working his left jab and follow it with his right hand in the beginning of the 6th, forcing taylor backwards. A right hand uppercut caught him near Pavlik's corner. Jermain Taylor was unconscious before he hit the ground. Steve Smooger called the fight without bothering to give Taylor a count. The Ghost had risen. There is a new middle weight champion - Kelly Pavlik.

Pavlik KO 2:14

According to Bert, Taylor was whipping his ass....
