DHB should not be playing.... those drops were sad. The last INT was caused by DHB. This mf just tipped the ball in the air, the worst play I've ever seen from a wide receiver in the NFL. He was better off just dropping it. Why isn't this dude benched? I think Al is going to get pissed off because it's like Tom Cable is using Russell as a scapegoat. Our problems are deeper than Russell's accuracy.

Rossibreath, on the real dog, did you see the highlights of the dropped passes? Or the passes that were called back, Russell completed a nice pass to Murphy for a huge gain down the sideline and then it gets called back for tripping. JR threw a perfect bomb pass to DHB on a post route and it goes right through his hands. Somebody post some highlights.... that 9-24 stat is misleading.

Cable is taking a huge gamble by benching Russell... he's really putting his job on the line. Scapegoating Russell isn't right and will cost Cable his job if Gradowski or Frye don't improve the offense. It's like they set Russell up to fail by starting two rookie receivers to begin with.

Al is watching you Tom Cable. If the offense still sucks, you're out or demoted back to o-line coach.

I have watched al the raider games this year except maybe 2, and from what I seen, JR has been a horrible QB. He has the TE and 1 WR to throw to that are decent and Bey is not helping matters. Plus I have seen your D get run through more than a whore at a swingers party.

Something needs to change and gradowski for one is alot more accurate on shorter passes than JR. I wouldn' say its all his fault, but he needs to earn the $ he was paid.

Yes, we have waaay more problems than just Russell. This happens all the time, when the team sucks, the qb gets the blame and then gets benched.... and the team still sucks. Cable is the head coach but he never, ever holds himself accountable. Maybe we've been getting outcoached.

Tom Cable may suck as a head coach, but that pails in comparison to how bad Jamarcus Russell is doing as a starting QB.

Rookie wide receivers are not the cause of his failures, because Murphy, Miller, Bush & Fargas are all out there playing good football. Now would a veteran receiver help? yes. would having more than 3 wideouts activated and playing in the game help? yes. would DHB playing like he deserved to be the high first round pick he was selected as instead of playing like he was just called up from the JV Jr High team help? yes. But Russell needs to take the primary blame right now because he has lost games for us. No other player (except for maybe DHB) has achieved that for the Raiders. I don't think Russell is a bust, I just think he's not ready, not being coached well, not being mentored, and did not have any repercussions for his failures until now. Are all of those things factors that could say that it's not his fault? sure. But it doesn't excuse his plays on the field. It doesn't excuse his attitude.

I'm still pissed that when Garcia was signed the Raiders coaching staff said "Jamarcus is our QB" instead of having an open competition. had they allowed the players to earn their roster position, Garcia would've been our QB and we would've probably won a couple more games. Hell, Jamarcus might've still been the starter but he'd be playing with a fire under his ass like his job was on the line.

I agree with all of your points except what you said about our rookie receivers because DHB is garbage. And Murphy would/could be better if he can consistantly catch the ball but I agree with all of your other points.

Russell move too early?

The JaMarcus Russell experiment in Oakland is probably over.

Raiders coach Tom Cable announced Wednesday Russell would be replaced by Bruce Gradkowski and that decision was meant for the rest of the season. If Russell is being benched now, it probably means the Raiders have seen enough.

If Oakland doesn’t think Russell is equipped to finish the season, they won't want to start fresh with him as the starter next season.

I’ve never been a Russell supporter, but I think this move is premature.

Russell should have been given the next seven games before Oakland made such a dramatic move on the player it took with the No. 1 overall pick in 2007. Let him finish the season as the starter. What’s the rush?

The Raiders are 2-7, and with games coming against Cincinnati, Dallas and Pittsburgh on the road, this team is staring at a 2-10 record. It’s not as if Gradkowksi can spark a playoff run. So why not just give Russell the rest of the season to see if he can turn around his career? Why close the door on him now?

There is no doubt Russell has been terrible. He became the full-time starter at the beginning of the 2008 season and has not improved. He has actually regressed.

But the ironic thing is, Russell threw two of his better passes as a Raider against Kansas City on Sunday. They came on consecutive plays, but neither helped the Raiders. One was dropped and the other was nullified by a penalty.

Russell was also the victim of several drops in what looks like was his final start in Oakland. When Oakland benched Russell in a close game, the message was sent: The Raiders don’t think Russell can help them win.

The Raiders have a lot invested in Russell. They have virtually nothing invested in Gradkowski. It is not as if Gradkowski, considered a low-level backup who has started one game since 2006, has a future as a starter.

He is a stop-gap answer.

The move crushes any confidence Russell has left. The future is still bleak with Gradkowski, who can move around well, but doesn’t have much of an arm. And it brings Oakland back to square one regarding the future.

If the team still had Jeff Garcia, I could see the move being made. At least Garcia, who asked to be released in September because the team told him it was sticking with Russell, would give Oakland a chance to win a few games down the stretch.

Don’t be surprised if Oakland tries to make up for the Russell mistake by drafting another quarterback next spring. Among the quarterbacks who could be taken in the top 10 are Washington’s Jake Locker, Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen and Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford. Expect Oakland to start analysis on collegiate quarterbacks again for the second time in three years.

The Russell choice was a mistake and the era looks to be over.

But I just think it may be over seven games too early.

Jamarcuss Russell doesn't have what it takes to be a decent quarterback in the league. The guy has a great arm. But he's an awful quarterback.

Fire Tom Cable, but nobody sane will come coach the Raiders. The Raiders will never be good again until Al Davis either dies, sells the team, or hires a decent GM. Madden would make a good GM.

fighting happens all the time in the locker room ,its people with your mentality thats the problem
Yeah, but how many pro coaches punch their assistants? Tell me. A Pathetic coach for a pathetic organisation.

TONY, what you don't seem to understand is that NO ONE thinks Russell is the ONLY problem with this team, but he is the STARTING QB and he sucks, horribly. YES, there are lots of dropped balls, YES, there are missed routes, but he STILL consistantly bombs the ball 49 feet over reciever's heads, or embeds it 2 feet into the turf, and couldn't hit the ocean from the beach.

HE IS HORRIBLE.

SO IS THE TEAM.

BUT, if possible, he is WORSE than an entire team. In fact, I'd love to have the 2009, fat, out of shape, criminal, drug abusing Ryan Leaf right now. In fact, I'd call Jamarcus the black Ryan Leaf, but I don't want to be called a racist.

for real Tony, give it up dude....Russell fucking sucks...I mean how do you expect a guy to succeed when hes behind the learning curve, has one horrible game after another, has a huge contract but is still late to meetings...

why are you even defending the guy? He should be the first one in to practice and last one out, he should be the hardest working player on the team and he is not, what makes you think all of a sudden one day hes gonna start lighting it up out of nowhere...

with that said, its not just him, its the wide recievers, its the coaching and most of all its the ownership...

AL, got russell, he got mcfadden adn he got DHB...you say cable is setting him up to fail by sending two rookie wide recivers out there...do you think AL drafted DHB that high to sit him on the bench? Everybody was louis murphy, louis murhpy earlier in the year...you would bench him? in favor of who?

really its cable's fault? how much coaches have come and gone and gotten the blame? and anyways, who hired cable? who hired kiffen? who hired shell? and who is still having too much to do with the team?

the team needs to be sold and a tough proven coach needs to come in that does not has to please the owner but clean house of all the bullshit and get rid of players taht are not trying their best....
