i think it all depends on all the followers who eat up whatever the media tells them is cool. if people like music for what it is then it shouldnt matter but there are still those who are so caught up with skin color along with many other subjects involving race.

it's only a factor for people that are quick to judge. Nor Cal got some white boys that can flow: Young Dru, Malice, Woodie (R.I.P.), Loki, Cognito and so on. it's sad how some people sleep on artists just cuz of their skin color, that goes for all races.
i aint gona lie, back in the day when i first saw Woodies tape at Sam Goody, (the one with him standing infront of a lark) i passed it right on by cus he was white...........then i heard him years later on Blood Sweat and Tears and dude was raw........that also happened when i saw 2 Dope (i think that was the name/ the ones who put out G-Macc i think) but i never heard them after that..........

but on another note, imo, most black rappers are wack, along with most mexican and whites............

OF COURSE ITS A FUCKIN FACTOR, UR FULLA SHIT IF YOU SAY ITS NOT. YOU MAY LISTEN TO RAPPERS OF ALL RACES, THAT DOSENT MEAN RACE ISNT A FACTOR IN RAP.

ALOT OF PEOPLE WONT EVEN BOTHER GIVING WHITE RAPPERS A TRY. AND ALOT OF PEOPLE FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE BUYING A BLACK RAPPERS CD THEN ANOTHER RACES (BEFORE HEARING IT)'. IF I WAS A WHITE RAPPER AND I PUT OUT A CD, I WOULD MAKE IT HARD TO TELL WHAT RACE I AM ON THE ALBUM COVER, I GUARENTEE IT WOULD SELL A LITTLE BIT MORE. LIKE KG SAID, EVEN WHITE PEOPLE WILL JUDGE IT IF THEY SEE A WHITE DUDE ON THE COVER OF A RAP CD. THAT SHIT IS TRUE, IVE DONE THE SAME SHIT BEFORE TOO, I WILL BUMP MUSIC OF ALL RACES BUT 90% OF MY COLLECTION IS BLACK...

WHILE WE'RE ON THIS TOPIC, HERE'S A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL RACES: -DONT RAP IF YOU FUCKIN SUCK. DO YOU THINK YOU COULD PERFORM 2 SONGS WITHOUT GETTING BOOED? IF NOT, THEN STOP RAPPING. I DONT CARE HOW HOOD YOU ARE, IF YOU CANT RAP THEN DONT TRY TO PUT MUSIC OUT.

SAME GOES FOR RAPPERS THAT SOUND DECENT BUT RAP ABOUT UNBELIEVABLE SHIT. DID YOU REALLY SHOOT 3 PEOPLE LAST YEAR ON MLK BLVD? IF YOUR NOT RAPPING FROM A STATE PRISON RIGHT NOW, THEN PLEASE STFU.

if that was the case in general why would an artist like eminem sale multi millions and be the biggest rap artist of this last decade in terms of sales

from my understanding now, heads in the endz(hood) can make authentic human beings that have talent on the mic and are themselves whatever there spitting, go gold in the states, you see what i'm saying, from just hood support, but if you want to go platinum, you have to crossover to middle class surburbs and upper ecomonic brackets, you have to crossover to that demographic to go platinum, because the majority of heads that have money to spare is gonna be that demographic, you get what i'm saying

so going by your criteria, if you know that ecomonically, in general in the states that white human beings in general and in size, are more affluent than black and latino human being community's, then you would know that the majority of rap sales, that push a lot of units are supported by white human beings, there the biggest consumers, i mean i thought this was a known fact and its both sides of the atlantic

human beings come in all shapes, sizes, tastes and lifestyles, theirs a demographic out there that supports human being artists like eminem that are very lyrically, technically talented, across all human being commuities & colours, while theirs a demographic that are more into cookie cutter, pop commercial rap music that crosses community's in therms of support and sales, then theirs a demographic that is most of the heads that check the siccness forums that supports authentic street music artists, human beings that have talent that spit that gutta shit, you get what i'm saying, then you have heads that only download music, you get what i'm getting at and so on and so on

so you know, me personally now, i support all human being artists no matter what colour they are, so long as they are themselves on the mic and have talent, it ain't that deep and i'm black, every human being on a level has to go through, thats the way i see it, its nuthin long

This is hard to answer because there is so many levels to this question.

If you try to pic up music at the mall or on the web and you have to look at the cover then yes race is a factor. Thats a fact and you be a lair to say it's not. If you got a white dude and the album title is "murder with shotguns and I got a bulletproof west", 99% of the people gone pass on that. Now the same cover same title but a black dude, you at least gone pic it up to see who produced it or what ever. True?

But like I said there are levels to this, if that same white dude mentioned above, album is called lyrical octane or what ever in that range or genre of hip hop then yes most likely you gone pic it up and check it. It's all about in what genre of the rap / hip hop music how we gone act racal.

It's different when you listen to the radio or see it on Tv and you are exposed to it. If you dig it you can go get it. you know what I'm trying to say?

I personally don't care about race in no way when I listen to rap or any kind of music, if it's good it is but I think the general human gone react racal when have to judge on the cover, especally when it comes to rap.

nah i don't agree fam, because i use that criteria to judge whoever is going by whatever name, wit whatever title of album and whatever colour the human being is, because you get fake shit in every community, truss me on that, i've got to know that the rappers lyrics match up to whoever that human being person is really is before i support there music, there report card has to match up to there lyrics, whatever there spitting, you get me fam, especially if there spitting about street shit, its just a must for man, whatever colour the human being is, you get what i'm saying, thats the way i see it, fuck frauds whatever colour they are, true story

Everybody can be fake no matter the color of the skin I get that, that was not my point. I'm saying that racal profiling still exist and can be considered a factor. In general I think that 12-16 year old kid going in the store looking for that super gangsta rap album not gone look twice at that white dude album except if he knows the deal.

Just because the consumers are white does not mean they are going to purchase music from white artists.. Not only that but not every white artist has the backing of Dr Dre and a million dollar budget...Sure there are exceptions but as a whole it's much harder for a white person to establish themselves in a market that is dominated by black artists.

Eminem wouldn't have been this successful if he was black imo...
i mean look at jay z's sales or drakes sales or tupac's sales or that sales match up between 50 & kanye a couple of years back, i'm not saying that he probably got a few trendy's when he first pushed out his first album in 99 that jumped on the buzz bandwagon that most hip hop heads had started back then because em had been around a lot longer than that, doing his thing in the underground you see what i'm saying, i mean thats obvious from the vice versa stuff heads are saying in this thread

but i think most people now check him for his musical talent alone now, i mean paul wall went platinum off his people's champ album when he was wit the independent swisha house/asylum on the major label distributed warner company, he's albums after that didn't do the same numbers and he had major label backing, so i don't think thats a factor in the greater scheme of things

so i think its got to do wit a lot of things, like if your established already on a mainstream label, the type of music you make, the type of label your on, major or independent, the type of support you get on national & local radio stations and if you have made any hits, ringtone rappers be going platinum off singles alone and this criteria to me effects every artist, no matter what colour the human being is, i really haven't seen evidence to show me otherwise so far, not on a level were it would make a bigger push in terms of your sales to push them over the top, through the roof, you see what i'm saying, i just ain't buying that, no i ain't

For true hiphop heads skill is the only thing that matters...

If a mutha fuckaz race plays a part of why u listen to them then ur a fuckin lame...straight up.

And on a side note white kids buy more albums then anyone else so if anyone is hatin on white rappers its white ppl themselves.

I think they hate seeing white boyz try and act "black" if that even makes sense.
