Not being black myself, I am of course not going to have a completely accurate picture as to the views of the black mainstream. And while my comments did hint that I held an idea that any black man in essence 'truly black' is going to behave and act in a certain way, thats not my idea at all.
I have no problems with accepting one's culture whether it be based on race, location, family heritage, or religious belief.I think in the days we live in ( 2003 ), this is such a basic part of being an intelligent person that it is almost unspoken. As a matter of fact statements of 'no discrimination based on this, this, and this' are spoken so often as to slmot be meaningless.
While my comments did tread a thin line towards a generalized racist statement, the point was to be funny and I think anyone looking at what I really had to say would see the underlying point, that while accepting one's culture is important, being a 'black black man', a 'woman conscious woman', or a 'raza oriented latino' is less important than what you actually do in real benefit of your people. In many cases this can actually be a barrier to progress, as 'hardcore' or even moderate members of any party look for a representative that is truest to their characteristics, even while adherence to this will cause alienation.
Getting back to the first point, though, I did use joking examples that didnt really represent anything significant about black people, with the exception perhaps of ebonics. In any case, you see where I stand on the subject.
