the use of speech or i should say words is our attempt to emit vibrations that we aim to contain certain understanding or concepts that we have. therefor i think having a wider vocabulary makes communicating these understandings more efficient, as one can be more specific or refined in their conceptualization/communication. the reason that smarter people may sometimes use bigger words is because they have a deeper understanding of some of the vibrations, for example, one who understands a concept like thought or happiness or whatever at a deeper level than others, must use a more in depth and specific set of vibrations to more efficiently communicate his level of understanding of whatever that concept may be. often we see people try and use a wider vocabulary when describing things that do not require it, and thus we see them trying to use it to impress upon people a greater understanding even tho there is none. and thus they sound like dbags

if someone is using too many big words just use this convenient big one yourself verbiage, example:

Yos Dawg, u's using too much verbiage in that shit, wrap it up B!

or

I don't understand that buuhshit...I don't fuck with verbiage, I be on that pocos pero claros estilo, comprende homes?

intellectual anti-intellectualism? Nope, A truly intelligent but wise man/woman speaks knowledge that most or all can understand.

This is my first thread in gom. What i want to discuss is this. If a person is truely intelligent they don't need to use super impressive vocabulary to get their point across. A lot of times I notice people trying to come across as intelligent and misusing big words or unnecessarily using big words for no reason to try and impress their audience.
I think people that are truely intelligent know how to get their point across in concise statements without over using big words to impress.
Thoughts?
I agree with you 100%

I think being blunt with an idea is the easiest way to get the point across. People who use big words unnecessarily and redundantly have penis envy in a literature sense.

I try to get my point across in the easiest way possible.

And I am telling you that getting your point across in the easiest way possible often involves the use of "big words"

No it doesnt... Most sophisticated words have synonyms.

The only time I ever use large words is when no other word can describe my feelings other then a particular word.

The only reason to use big words in my opinion is to segregate the idiots from the intelligent, sometimes that doesnt even work anyways.

Intelligent people dont use "cuz"...

No offense but why dont you just type 'because' especially when you're trying to brand people 'lazy'

Thats irony in its self.

I use big words when 1. they are a substitute for several smaller words and 2. they are decipherable among the average person.

Using them strictly as a means of getting your point across in the easiest way possible doesn't work because if someone can not identify the words and their meaning the point may not get across at all.

Betterment = the worst word in the english language. Probably the most frequently used word aimed at making one sound more intelligent through the use of words.

Lastly, anyone using big words solely for the purpose of sounding intelligent is retarded and can easily be spotted as a fraud.

I agree with many things that are being said in this thread. Misspelling is expected in the internet because: this is not an english class, we want to get our point across as fast as possible, and we are not being graded on our grammar, punctuation, and diction.

Saying people use big words and complaining about it is anti-intellectual because that person is complaining about their own unwillingness to look up the word;they are lazy and expect everything to be dumbed down for them. There are people out there that use big words just to make whatever they are saying not understandable. This would be the jargon used in contracts to confuse people.I guess what I'm saying is that there are two reasons people complain of big words.

I agree, I also think anyone who uses big words is just being egotistical.
