All the Keek and 40 songs about scrapers, gettin hyphy, and videos of folks goin dumb is just gonna fall on deaf ears across the nation. They don't know what goin dumb is. They never even heard the words we usin right now. They will see video of folks goin dumb and think niggas done gone retarded, and not in a good way retarded, retarded like based out.
They haven't listened to San Quinn, Lynch, Mac Dre, A-Wax, and Hollow Tip. They don't know the history, the style, the story behind the music, etc. They not gonna hear a whole scene, a whole culture and a whole history.
If "Tell me when to go" gets real play, they gonna hear E-40 and Keak. They gonna hear E-40 and Keak do a 'mediocre' song. "Its a Slumper" or all kinda other songs woulda been better for this purpose. "Tell Me" gets love on this board because it is e-40 and Keak doing it, but it's not a "classic" song. It's somewhat catchy, but you know Dipset or D4L got somewhat catchy songs on the radio too.
It's like when Lynch put all his pull into "Everywhere I Go" to get it on BET like once when it was at best, an average song. In my opinion it was garbage. It did *not* showcase the best of Lynch's talent and what kinda hype he was on. Just because a song has a hook (and a wack ass hook at that) doesnt mean it should hit the radio.
The video for "Tell me" does not show what gas brake dippin is, it dont explain what they mean by thizz face, etc. Lil Jon and the "Crunk" movement took off because it was simple and stupid and had good beats behind it. They introduced ONE slang term, and repeated about a hundred thousand times, until the rest of the country understood it. 40 and Keak tryna throw a bunch of shit into a song and video that people will NOT understand. Y'all gotta realize people are stupid. They can't just pick up on shit you throw at em, especially the radio crowd.
All y'all who want the bay to blow up because
1. *You* want exposure
or
2. *Your favorite rapper* wants exposure, or you want them to get exposure
Are just straight dummy. When Masta P came up, how many rappers did he make real money for? Once again ten, maybe 15? How many quality rappers from his area got passed by?
All y'all who think that a national spotlight is going to lead to recognition for the artists and the scene need to put it in perspective.
Look at how many other cities' rap scenes 'blew up'...how many rappers from those cities ACTUALLY made real money?
LA...NWA, Snoop, Dre, a few more...Ten rappers maybe?
ATL...15-20 at most?
Houston...6, maybe 7?
How many favorite bay rappers do most of us here have? 5, 10, 15?
How many if you include rappers that you think are VERY GOOD or high quality but not Hella good?
15, 20, 25?
How many of these people will actually see money and fame? I'd 10, maybe 15. And in all odds it won't be your favorite rapper. Even if Keak and E-40 go platinum, A-Wax for eg. who is my personal favorite will still go around selling 20 or 30,000 CDs a release.
Y'all talkin bout "Oh we gon get on MTV" "Oh we gon get on BET" are the same ones who walk around talkin bout "Oh BET never play no good music" "MTV dont show love to real rappin" etc.
So say a Bay video gets on both stations - what will out of town folks think about it? The same thing we think and say about Juelz Santana, D4L, Chingy, and all these other fuckaz we be clownin all the time.
Off the top Im sayin it aint gonna happen, and if it does, all that will happen is the wrong rappers will be put in the spotlight, or a few rappers will take all the money, sales, etc., and not share the love.
The Bay blowin up will not achieve even 10% or 5% of what y'all think it will. Maybe a couple rappers will get a few plaques, maybe some more people will show the bay some love, but it won't last. National radio and MTV are both selective and limited in *who* they help out and *for how long* they help em.
I predict - all this hype y'all talkin' bout will NOT do anything near what you think it will, and even if it does, it will NOT last.
I just hope, personally, that when the shit comes crashin down, Bay rappers will not lose heart and continue to make great music; music I still hope to be bumpin ten years from now.
