All the Keek and 40 songs about scrapers, gettin hyphy, and videos of folks goin dumb is just gonna fall on deaf ears across the nation. They don't know what goin dumb is. They never even heard the words we usin right now. They will see video of folks goin dumb and think niggas done gone retarded, and not in a good way retarded, retarded like based out.

They haven't listened to San Quinn, Lynch, Mac Dre, A-Wax, and Hollow Tip. They don't know the history, the style, the story behind the music, etc. They not gonna hear a whole scene, a whole culture and a whole history.

If "Tell me when to go" gets real play, they gonna hear E-40 and Keak. They gonna hear E-40 and Keak do a 'mediocre' song. "Its a Slumper" or all kinda other songs woulda been better for this purpose. "Tell Me" gets love on this board because it is e-40 and Keak doing it, but it's not a "classic" song. It's somewhat catchy, but you know Dipset or D4L got somewhat catchy songs on the radio too.

It's like when Lynch put all his pull into "Everywhere I Go" to get it on BET like once when it was at best, an average song. In my opinion it was garbage. It did *not* showcase the best of Lynch's talent and what kinda hype he was on. Just because a song has a hook (and a wack ass hook at that) doesnt mean it should hit the radio.

The video for "Tell me" does not show what gas brake dippin is, it dont explain what they mean by thizz face, etc. Lil Jon and the "Crunk" movement took off because it was simple and stupid and had good beats behind it. They introduced ONE slang term, and repeated about a hundred thousand times, until the rest of the country understood it. 40 and Keak tryna throw a bunch of shit into a song and video that people will NOT understand. Y'all gotta realize people are stupid. They can't just pick up on shit you throw at em, especially the radio crowd.

All y'all who want the bay to blow up because

1. *You* want exposure
or
2. *Your favorite rapper* wants exposure, or you want them to get exposure

Are just straight dummy. When Masta P came up, how many rappers did he make real money for? Once again ten, maybe 15? How many quality rappers from his area got passed by?

All y'all who think that a national spotlight is going to lead to recognition for the artists and the scene need to put it in perspective.

Look at how many other cities' rap scenes 'blew up'...how many rappers from those cities ACTUALLY made real money?

LA...NWA, Snoop, Dre, a few more...Ten rappers maybe?

ATL...15-20 at most?

Houston...6, maybe 7?

How many favorite bay rappers do most of us here have? 5, 10, 15?

How many if you include rappers that you think are VERY GOOD or high quality but not Hella good?

15, 20, 25?

How many of these people will actually see money and fame? I'd 10, maybe 15. And in all odds it won't be your favorite rapper. Even if Keak and E-40 go platinum, A-Wax for eg. who is my personal favorite will still go around selling 20 or 30,000 CDs a release.

Y'all talkin bout "Oh we gon get on MTV" "Oh we gon get on BET" are the same ones who walk around talkin bout "Oh BET never play no good music" "MTV dont show love to real rappin" etc.

So say a Bay video gets on both stations - what will out of town folks think about it? The same thing we think and say about Juelz Santana, D4L, Chingy, and all these other fuckaz we be clownin all the time.

Off the top Im sayin it aint gonna happen, and if it does, all that will happen is the wrong rappers will be put in the spotlight, or a few rappers will take all the money, sales, etc., and not share the love.

The Bay blowin up will not achieve even 10% or 5% of what y'all think it will. Maybe a couple rappers will get a few plaques, maybe some more people will show the bay some love, but it won't last. National radio and MTV are both selective and limited in *who* they help out and *for how long* they help em.

I predict - all this hype y'all talkin' bout will NOT do anything near what you think it will, and even if it does, it will NOT last.

I just hope, personally, that when the shit comes crashin down, Bay rappers will not lose heart and continue to make great music; music I still hope to be bumpin ten years from now.

And just to add - the full amount of rappers who make enough money off sales and the hustle to support themselves can't be more than maybe five, ten thousand. And I got no doubt that there are hundreds of thousands of rappers out there.

So people who think that Bay Rappers is gonna fill up Central Park and go on world tours are in for some shit. The fact that people make good music, or have culture or a scene does not equal success or acclaim in the world of music. That's why most of the best shit is independent.

Ya I shoulda thought about that.

Also, to clarify, I don't hope it doesn't achieve mainstream success out of hatred for the MCs or the scene. I hope it don't blow it because all it will lead to is a crash and burn and it will water down the quality of the music.

^^ im gon' have to say that ain't right. u sound like u hopin this shit don't blow up cuz u mad that every kid around the bay is finally listenin to bay area music... that the old mob muzik sound seems to be replaced by this hyphy shit... and that u can't go around bumpin sometn that the car next to u won't be bumpin... that sound selfish as fuck period. i grew up listenin to all dat shit u mentiond i still luv it but i grew to luv this "new" wave of bay music.. and ima support the fuck outa my area.. i hope 40 and keak get paid. u ain't seein the bigger picture.. this rap shit in general keeps changin every few years.. and its bout norcals time, be proud man, dont' linger in the past homie.

U got a point man and i respect ya point of view more so now.. but why not share sometn different wit the rest of the nation? i can see where u cmon from talkin bout how theres a chance that if this shit hit mainstream . . its goin to burn out quick probbably too... but then again the bay reinvents itself in all types of ways...i think it'll jus put all eyez / earz on us more so in the future the scene ain't gotta struggle so hard as it has the past decade. my opinion but again i jus ain't feelin why folks ain't proud that we finally gettin some nods and notices

My problem with the "hyphy movement" is just that ... "hyphy movement". It's been given a name which usually implies that this is a gimmick, which in turn implies that it won't be around for very long.

I agree with most of your points but you never know what might happen. You shouldn't base your argument on things that have happened in the past. That's like betting on the Warriors to beat the Sonics just because the Warriors have a winning record against the Sonics. There's a reason why they play the games...

I aint tryin to disrespect but you missed the whole point of my post.

I'm glad that at least in our own area, we listen to our own local music. That's positive.

What I don't want is Bay rappers to get a taste of real success, for it to only come crashin down after that 5 minutes, and after nationwide audiences do not get real exposure to the music and culture.

In other words, I don't wanna see it picked up and dropped by the commercial music apparatus that shows no love to people makin real music, and for local rappers to be like fuck it cause we tried and failed.

I'd rather like to see the Bay more successful on a independent level and achieve steady success and real recognition, not some TRL shit that will fall off and end up in people not hearin the wide variety of rappers and music that come from this area.

Also, the idea that the Bay blowin up will lead to success and recognition for local rappers and the Bay is faulty. Best possible scenario is it will lead to 4 or 5 gettin paid, and everyone else right where they started from.

"THE GOOD OLE BOYS NETWORK"

How many people currently involved with the bay rap scene are getting paid? When I say "getting paid" I am not talking about a distribution deal with such and such, a chain around the neck or honda on spinners. I am talking about PAID as in ascap or bmi checks in the 6 and 7 figures OR branding. You will count no MORE than 5. The FACT is it has ALWAYS been like that and will CONTINUE to be like this, but the sheep do not understand it. I don't want to shit on the next mans dream, but face it. The bay area is home to buffoonery, and the fans are stepin fetchit. You have grown men damn near 40 years old behaving as children and PROMOTING this shit to children.

The ONLY big picture is some pockets will get bigger. The bay blowing up will only benefit those in "the good ole boys network", and everyone else will be left to rot or feed on the scraps from the table. In fact most of the people will flock like vultures to a dying childs corspe looking for a morsel. Go to a video shoot and you will understand what I am talking about.

regardless of whether this movement blows up or not...atleast support the artist for what theyre trying to do...and if they succeed then good, if not then someone else should try something different.

@ white devil.... i'm from and live in atlanta and i'm diggin tha shit outta tha hyphy shit. my girl's from new york and she diggin tha shit out tha hyphy shit. most of my circle of friends are from cali, so of course they gonna like that. i'm not sayin ur wrong, or ur right. i jus think it would be hard to judge wut tha nation will accept at tha time. ur right about how we look at juels santana and shit like that, BUT i'm sure tha rest uv tha nation thought tha same when lil john first broke airwaves on mtv and bet. it's just a hit or miss thang homie. its hard to judge wut tha world is ready for. me personally, i'd rather have some jacca or mob figaz or brotha lynch get platinum status cuz to me they put more heart into they shit, and that's tha shit i like. i'm 30 years old, so i'm from tha generation that wuz more passionate lyric driven and music that wuz more musically. this generation is more catchy hooks and tight BEATS (not music)- thats y i like mob figaz and lynch and that typa shit. but i c wut ur sayin. i think, nobody really knows wuz gonna happen. if tha bay DOES blow, then tha ONLY reason i would NOT like it, is cuz i like slappin shit out here (atlanta) that's knoccin and nobody's ever heard. i like when folx stop me and say, "yo who is that u bumpin?". it would succ to me if keak and 40 and turf would be on tha radio CONSTANTLY around tha clocc. thats jus me. fold.

it all depends on what product the bay puts forth. if the bay puts out nothing but hyphy shit, and other trend stuff... then we will be forgot about in a while. but if the bay wants to put out quality shit that aint part of a fad, then we will see our shine and wont crash and burn after we're done and not be seen as a one hit wonder type of thing,
