Just in case you need to discreetly hide a menial message that only the coolest of cool kids can read...

I swear to God some of those apps are so fucking stupid.

Hey, buy our app that turns your phone into a light saber.

No thanks, I'll just buy a light saber.

I don't want your two dollar noises coming from my phone. I rock my shit on silent.
problem with this post is the app was free. so yeah i guess i can still be cool

QR codes(the picture) are popular and are great for alot of things...
Like what? Limiting your advertising to as small an audience as possible, while alienating the others because they don't have the right type of phone?

You're the biggest douche on this board. Congrats, you're the new Nate.

They put them on a lot of shit. I have seen them on doritos bags, video game advertisements, and movie advertisements. its an easy way for if you have a phone with a QR code reader/app on it to find out more information about that product. If Strange Music wanted to, they could throw it on their flyers and cd promo posters, and someone walking by it on the street who saw the QR code, they could grab their phone, scan the code (takes about 2 seconds), and it would instantly direct them to a webpage with artist information, release dates, music videos, and sample tracks. Takes a lot less time then typing in the web address.

The question is... what do the companies gain from it?

Is there anything saying that app isn't collecting data on your interests to advertise to you in one way or another?

Not only is it too convenient, but essentially you're reading an ad and going, "you know what? I haven't been advertised to enough in this one ad... I think I'll use my phone to willingly look at more ads."

I don't see that as being a positive thing. Especially when it's tricking otherwise smart people into believing it's convenient.
