well if people aint feelin E-40 or Keak then why did the A'z and Wolfpack recently get signed? and why is TVT jumpin on the Hyphy Movement and supportin it? labels BARELY lookin out this way lookin for new artists.
Labels are like sharks. They smell blood, they will bite.

They will grab hyphy artists even if they are unsuccessful and it's not a major loss for them. I will be damn fuckin surprised if the A'z or Wolfpack get a video on MTV or a single outside regional West Coast radio.

i was just saying...theres alot of unsigned rappers out here that WILL get signed no matter what the rest of the country thinks about E-40 and Keak.
Yes and no. If the reason they are signed is because they have genuine underground hype and they push their music outside the Bay Area and have a genuine movement, than yes, keek and E-40 don't matter.

If the reason they are signed is the labels came out here smellin pussy with a dick out, then their deals / success will be tied to 40 and Keak.

I'd venture to say number 2 is the reason most of the recent groups got signed.

WHITE DEVIL, I congratulate you on this phenomenal thread. I agree whole heartedly with your statements. Whatever style blows up next, just watch the bay try it, with a different name, and watch them flop again. Im not tryin to diss the bay, I like Lynch, Spice 1, C-bo, etc... but the artists in this Hyphy "movement" with the exception of san quinn, are all clowns.

People in the bay only feel keak because he is from the Bay. As a rapper his shit is subpar. Successful rappers have songs you hear once and bump, not some shit you have to listen to about 15 times before you can get into it.

People aren't signed because people all around the country are not feelin E-40 or Keak. 40 did his best work a long time ago, and Keak is someone you have to force yourself to like.

A single/album is the best introduction a rapper needs/has. Keak is unfortunately not a double platinum or even platinum artist. We love Keak because we've heard his shit over and over for so long and he is local. Most of Keak's lyrics are indistinguishable, most of his slang refers to shit that people outside the Bay aren't feelin and never will understand the way we do.

Snoop Dogg's musical career has been in the process of slowly fallin off for what, 6 years? 8 years?

As for the small georgraphical area we are from...irrelevent. We live in the information age. It's not like we have to form a cross-county CD chain highway and physically pass the CD along.

And music that doesn't appeal to people doesn't sell. Tell me when to go was unfortunately not liked by many other people. It got a polite listening to, and then just like E-40's album, it flatlined.

The movement has been dead from day one.

Trying to take the deep, rich musical heritage of Northern California and repackage it into a slogan or word is an incomplete and ridiculous representation of music out here. Not to mention E-40's hilarious "It's just like crunk...exactly." statement.
lmao at you. You have no clue what you're talkin bout. The hyphy movement is nowhere near dead, it really just began. This is comin from sombody who is actually in the industry at a major label and not a geek that sits behind a pc all day. You cats kill me when you make these idiotic threads with no facts to back up any of your ridiculous statements. How could it be dead when 40 is one of the most played artist in the country and everybody and they mama is bittin our culture on a mainstream level? Too short is killin shit. The federation is about to blow the doors off with they album, the packs single is blowin up all over the country and they just signed to jive. keak got labels chasin after him and believe it or not people feel keak outside the bay more than you think. Fab is about to sign and j valentine is signed to j records. Team got deals on the table as well. Not to mention keisha cole is a super star. Where is it dying at again?
The fuck outta here.

The reality of the situation is that the bay is HOT right now. Anybody that really knows anything about this industry knows that damn near all the majors are lookin at bay artist to sign so they can cash in on the movement themselves. The people that make the moves know the deal and that really all the matters.

dude above me is all truth. how long as the "hyphy movement" been goin in the bay now? 3 years max? the nation only got exposed to e-40 again, and the hyphy sound but 6 or 7 months ago. anyone who thinks the hyphy movement is dead is a fool ... 6 months of national exposure? its just started! 40-wata is all over the waves, and as a result those with tracks with any kind of dat commerical appeal made since the beginning of "hyphy" sound are getting spins all over the nation on the radio, mtv2 and jams, and espically in the clubs.
you niggaz is some pessimistic mothafuccaz.
there are "bay" remixes and "bay" shoutouts going on all over da place. have u heard the new puff daddy / dpg collabo? even puffy shouting out the bay! people iz borrowing lingo like in jagged edge new track. everyone in the industry knows that this has da potential ta pop off so they gettin on board.
but, poetential is the key werd. b/c if these boyz dont get wit the right label, and if these boys dont start makin club slappers with distinct bay sound and national appeal then it might never could be what it should.
and you niggaz should raise up offa 40-wata. dude has done everythang right to get the bay the attention it deserves. its time for your favorite artist to step out the bay and do it big. im sure 40 knows that he aint even going to get the biggest cut of this in terms of straight paper in the likely event a couple artists do blow but thats just who 40 is now at his advanced age.
