All in all, I'd say for one difference, is the use of the hi-hat. The West Coast loves the hi-hat, which adds a better rhythm to the beat. East Coast is all about kicks and bass. Lyrics....a lot of East Coast rappers have lyrics like a muthafucka, but they don't really mean shit a lot of the time. There's a few rappers out there spittin shit with depth, but not a whole lot. The West Coast, there's a SHITLOAD of people rappin about their hoods, which is played the fuck out. On the other hand, there are a lot of rappers with good shit to say, it's just that nobody has heard most of 'em yet. The saturation of West Coast music (especially in the Bay), has fucked off a lot of folks chances. Out of all the rappers out now in Cali, only a handful deserve recognition. RBL, Quinn, 40, Killa Tay, Crooked I, and some others, plus a couple up and comers. Not a whole lot when you look at the hundreds of rappers hittin the market right now.
So, my decision stands...The West Coast overall has better shit, it's just being held back at the moment. Rappers spit more meaningful, thought out shit, that means something to a lot of folks...there's more rhythm in the beats and the rhymes (East Coast rappers mostly sound fuckin Mono-Toned...MASE, FABOLOUS, P.DiDDY, JAY Z), those cats don't show as much emotion as they can, and you can tell they got the skill, but no fuckin heart. West Coast rappers pour their heart out way more, and you can tell, and that's what should be on top right now, music with meaning, not music with money backing!!
