How would you articulate the differences between East Coast and West Coast rap?

Basically it's like this.......
According to the East they consider the all time greatest rappper....a big fat chubby ass ugly 15 big mac eatin aint neva
seen his dick cuz of that big phat Krispy Kreme eating doughnut belly is in the way...
we on the other hand know that the greatest ever is Tupac.....
they are ignorant .......we see the light!!!

my view is east coast alot of times "TALK" about how tight they are and west "SHOWS" you how tight they are with delivery and ryhme structer.
if you hear a west coast rapper rhyme he won't say he's this and he's that.he'll let you hear it when he bust.he won't have to actually say how tight he is he'll let you hear it.
here's a lame example of whut i'm trying to say...
east coast "i'm tighter than virgin pussy"
a west coast rapper won't mention how tight his ryhmes are they'll just rap and you could hear "actually hear" how tight they are.

west coast brag they're the hardest hoods EVER... and make people think your going to get shot right when you step off the airplane... and about Diversity, both scene's have it.
I don't see how people don't see how skilled some of these east coast rappers are... there so on the nuts of some little nor cal rapper, and brainwashed and shit... skills everywhere, and not limited to a coast or a city

East: Has more dance beats. They got lyrics like muthafucka, but only a few. Their songs are more catchy than ours.
South: Their beats are not that good. Their lyrics are wack. Can't not one of them fuck with the west or the east. I take that back, there are a couple. They got their shine on right now and it don't look like it's gonna stop anytime soon.
West: G-Funk/mobbed the fuck out. Got lyrics but not catchy songs like the east. Will get the shine back after south let it go in about 5years

The lines r bein crossed now.. so in about 5 years everybody gonna have the same type of beats if they get national play unless they r known for their unique beats like a Lil John or somethin...
I think traditionally the East has better lyrics, softer beats..
I think the south has some gangsta beats n so so lyrics much like the west.. we focus more on the beat and less the lyrics.. but i think things r startin to change a lil

Its is very difficult to tell the difference between West/East coast now as different rap deliveries and styles have spread regardless of location. For example, today the East Coast's hottest's acts have taken on the format, subject matter, and delivery of Westcoast artists such as 50 Cent, Jay Z, and Nas. Artists on the West Coast have also borrowed elements from the East coast such as basic style beats the highlight lyrics and flow like the Gamblaz and the Mob Figaz.
Generally, when I think of the East Coast, I think of very basic beats. I also think of very clever rhyme formations and good lyrics.
When I think of the West Coast, I think of knockin beats, not nessecarily trunk rattlin funk but fast paced, bass oriented angry-drivin, dancin, fighting music. I also think of very original diction and slang that varies from place to place. There is also quite a distinction between flow (ie San Quinn to Yukmouth to Mac Dre). In general, the rhyme schemes are a little more basic but the message is much more pertinent and thought provoking.
I know the East Coast has been on top for a minute, but in general I believe that the West Coast has done a lot more for the rap game.

The east coast puts emphasis on the actual art of emcee'ing, which is what rap used to be about. They understand lyricism and rapping with substance.
The west coast on the other hand...90 percent of the artists spew out the same, generic ass shit we were hearing 10 years ago, except a little more modernized.
But thats about to change...theres a new breed of up and coming west coast talent that have an appreciation for the real art and are real emcees. I aint lost faith in the west coast yet...theres about to be a new wave of lyricism in the west, thanx to cats like A-Wax who actually understand what lyricism is about.

All in all, I'd say for one difference, is the use of the hi-hat. The West Coast loves the hi-hat, which adds a better rhythm to the beat. East Coast is all about kicks and bass. Lyrics....a lot of East Coast rappers have lyrics like a muthafucka, but they don't really mean shit a lot of the time. There's a few rappers out there spittin shit with depth, but not a whole lot. The West Coast, there's a SHITLOAD of people rappin about their hoods, which is played the fuck out. On the other hand, there are a lot of rappers with good shit to say, it's just that nobody has heard most of 'em yet. The saturation of West Coast music (especially in the Bay), has fucked off a lot of folks chances. Out of all the rappers out now in Cali, only a handful deserve recognition. RBL, Quinn, 40, Killa Tay, Crooked I, and some others, plus a couple up and comers. Not a whole lot when you look at the hundreds of rappers hittin the market right now.
So, my decision stands...The West Coast overall has better shit, it's just being held back at the moment. Rappers spit more meaningful, thought out shit, that means something to a lot of folks...there's more rhythm in the beats and the rhymes (East Coast rappers mostly sound fuckin Mono-Toned...MASE, FABOLOUS, P.DiDDY, JAY Z), those cats don't show as much emotion as they can, and you can tell they got the skill, but no fuckin heart. east coast has more catchy songs? aer u telling me the Bay area doesnt have catchy songs, the bay has the tightest beats, the west has a different approch on hip hop then the east. the east is about Raw Lyrics stricly lyrics over there, they usally dont have that great of sound quailty as the west coast. This is just how i see things And The NW hip hop is on the rise Comin WIT SOME HEAT!! you will see
