Dope post....

I cant comprehend how people go apeshit when someone asks for 50 or even 300. You shouldnt be rapping if you cant come up with those monetary funds....

Oso... I see soundscans bro, I am 'in the know'

Keak couldnt even sell 1800 of his last CD,

putting 3 grand into a CD is all good n all, but I dont know man, I know some well known rap cats that struggle recouping in the day & age of digital downloads.

hell, JACKA/BERNER drought season 2 only did 1300 sales 2 weeks, & we all know sales die down by 60% + after the first 30 days.

AP9 last project only did 283 sales scanned in the first 2 weeks... I mean, how can someone expect to be eating off rap money?

( not knockin AP, Berner, nor Jacka, just using them as examples cause they are well known & have a fat buzz & the numbers were close by )

I know damn near every rapper making moves in San Jo & some outside my city, & they are only ordering 1000 Cd's at a time, & months later, I see them with half their box full in the trunk still trying to push.

( I'd like to get the CTR homies input on this, since they are the
highest selling artists aside from Traxx in SJ )

my point is, a lot of cats get a little slight buzz going & all of a sudden, they are the shit & wanna put a Tupac price stamp on their verses, knowing damn good n well they are high-ballin those numbers to make themselves seem like rap gods.

... if you are selling that much yourself ( I never checked for your scans ) then props to you, you are doing a lot better then cats who have been in the spotlight for a longer amount of time. congrats.
are you serious? sound scan numbers dont count for shit when you pushin out the trunk or droppin off units to mom and pops spots. Having owned a record store myself that didnt sound scan I can tell you that homeboy rappers like Oso Loc and Lil coner, Big Tone & Davina paid the bills... Our top sellers were homeboy artists, Jacka, AP9, Keak Da Sneek didnt sell shit. But mixtapes flew off the shelvs! Dont rely on sound scan cuzz ony a few homeboy rappers actually get to spots that do scan. I see unknown cats eat off this rap all the time. I know unknown artists that none of you even heard of that sold 10,000 units last year alone... theirs still oney in this you just gotta go get it, it aint fallin in your lap no more.

not always true,, i doubt woodie made over 3000 on his first tape he ever made and distributed, it all takes time, he did not shine over night.
I would expect Woodie to have made way over $3000.00 his first tape, he would only have to sell at 5.00 a tape he would only have to sell 600 tapes... back then there was no downloads, no limewire and way less other rappers.

DONT WANNA DISRESPECT, PERO INCLUDING MYSELF IVE NEVER EVEN HEARD ANY OF THEM BEFORE AND I SUPPORT A LOT OF LOCAL RAP..BUT IF THEY ACTUALLY MOVING THAT MANY UNITS ALONE AND MORE THAN BIGGER NAMES LIKE THE JACKA WITHOUT BEING KNOWN, PROPS TO THEM..
Thats my point you never heard of them and I would have never heard of them except i do most of their covers, and I know muthafuckas gonna be talkin shit like hell no they didnt sell that many how could they if I never heard of the etc... but I seen it, I seen them order a thousand at a time everytime. they stand out side metro and DD's all day gettin cds off in stockton, modesto the bay fresno all over. and they dont just target young cats, they target old ladies, kids, old men, church people, everyone they see is a prospect, and I seen it work. I see Oso Loc and Coner drive from city to city gettin off units up and down California and outta state. with hustle like that you can eat off rap. They might not be rich, but they pay their bills and then some.

aint nobody eating off rap music alone these days, folks, especially in the bay, especially regional rappers. check the soundscans. too much access to YOUR product for FREE on the internet.

300 for a big tone verse?, sure... but these cats now a days got at least 1 feature on every song & call it their "SOLO RELEASE" ....do the math. That shit adds up & you aint gonna recoup the cash off the $ put into features, alone, ....add pressing, sleeves, graphics, promo, travel time, studio time, mastering & everything else that comes with it... @ 300 a verse, you are gonna be losing bread at the end of your project.

then you cant buy that fancy gold grill, or rent the Bentley for your youtube video LOL
im sick of hearin a "solo" album by a artist and dont even hear that artist you tryin to listen to...what the fuck?....am i listening to a comp or a solo album?....even fuckin "group albums (two rappers)" have alot of features...what the fuck is going on?...hahaha damn...but i think havin a feature or two on a album is cool and if i ever want to get a nice feature i wouldnt mind payin 300 for Big Tone to be on the album he raps good and i think we can come up with something tight if we collab.not just a verse sent through e mail.

SOUNDSCAN AINT SHIT TO THE INDPENEDANT HUSTLE OF THE RAP GAME. WHEN I DROP AN ALBUM. MY SOUNDSCANS ARE GARBAGE. BUT GUESS WHAT. WE HIT THEM STREETS AND GRIND HARD! I'LL MOVE 1,500 UNITS WITHIN A COUPLE WEEKS IN THE STREETS. U CAN DO THE MATH ON THAT. FUCK RELYIN ON DISTROBUTION. THEY GONNA PUSH WHO THEY WANT. I AINT HAPPY PUSHIN 1,000 UNITS IN 6 MONTHS TO GET A CHECK FROM DISTROBUTION. I'LL PUSH 1,000 EVERY OTHER MONTH BY HITTIN THE STREETS. ME AND LIL CONER BE OUT THERE ALMOST EVERYDAY HITTIN DIFFERENT AREAS PROMOTIN AND GRINDIN OUR CDS. AND I KNOW WASSUP WITH BEIN A WORKIN MAN I BEEN WORKIN FULL TIME JOBS SINCE I WAS 15.. IF MUSIC IS WHAT YOU WANNA DO WIT UR LIFE THEN YOU'LL FIND THE TIME AND DEDICATION TO GET OUT THERE AND PUSH IT. I GOT NOTHIN BUT RESPECT TO THOSE WHO MAKE MUSIC AND DROP THEIR CDS OFF AT THE DISTRIBUTOR AND WAIT FOR THEM 6 MONTHS TO GET A CHECK.. BUT WHEN THEY COMPLAIN CUZ THEY AINT MOVIN UNITS OR OUT DOIN SHOWS OR GETTIN RECOGNIZED EVERYWHERE THEY GO DOIN AUTOGRAPH SIGNINGS AND BEIN IN MAGAZINES.. I DONT WANNA HEAR IT. WITH ANYTHING IN LIFE YOU GOTTA PUSH AND PUT IN WORK TO GET TO THE TOP AINT NOTHIN HANDED TO YOU. YOU CANT SIT BACK AND EXPECT EVERYONE ELSE TO GET UR NAME OUT THERE YOU GOTTA DO IT URSELF. SO TO ALL THE RAPPERS THAT AINT DOIN SHIT AND AINT MOVIN UNITS.. GET OUT THERE AND DO THE DAM THANG. GET UP IN THEIR FACES AND MAKE THEM RECOGNIZE YOU. IF UR MUSIC IS TIGHT THEN YOU AINT GOT NOTHIN TO WORRY BOUT.. IF UR MUSIC IS GARBAGE.. YOU'LL FIND OUT REAL QUICK

IM GONNA TOUCH ON THIS SUBJECT SINCE MY NAME WAS MENTIONED A FEW TIMES. TO BE HONEST, I DONT EVEN DO FEATURES ANYMORE UNLESS ITS WITH PEOPLE I KNOW OR IF SOME ONE I FUCK WIT VOUCHES FOR THEM. IN THAT CASE I WOULDN'T EVEN CHARGE, OR IF I DO, IT WOULD BE VERY LITTLE. I NOTICED ALOT OF PEOPLE GET THEIR FEELINGS HURT WHEN THEY DONT GET THE RESPONSE THEY WANTED. BETWEEN MYSELF AND DAVINA, WE REGULARLY GET HIT UP WITH "WUSUP WIT A COLLAB?' OR " LETS NETWORK" AND " HOW MUCH FOR A 16?" IT SEEMS THAT SOME OF OUR EX FANS WHERE REAL SOLID SUPPORTERS UNTILL THEY DECIDED TO BE RAPPERS AND SENT ME A GARBAGE BEAT TO JUMP ON. WHEN THEY DIDNT GET WHAT THEY EXPECTED THEY OF COARSE TURNED ON US.....

MUSIC IS ONLY A SMALL PART OF MY LIFE, BUT IT IS ALSO A SMALL BUSINESS. ANYBODY WHO PUSHES A DECENT AMOUNT OF UNITS COULD FEEL ME. THERE IS ALOT OF WORK INVOLVED TO RUN A LABEL. IF I WERE TO HOOK UP EVERY HOMIE THAT APPROACHED ME WITH A VERSE, I WOULD NOT ONLY LOWER THE DEMAND ON MY NAME BY DOIN WACK SONGS, I WOULD BE SPENDING ALMOST EVERY DAY WRITIN AND LAYIN VERSES JUST TO MAKE SOME HOMIES HAPPY. FUCK THAT! LIKE THE HOMIES SAID, THERE ARE ALOT OF DEGENERATES OUT THERE, SO IF I DONT KNOW YOU, I AINT FUCKIN WIT YOU. REGARDLESS.

THE ONLY REASON I PURSUE THIS LIL RAP THANG IS FOR THE ONES WHO DO SUPPORT US AND UNDERSTANDS THE HUSTLE. THIS RAP GAME IS SO FUCKED UP RIGHT NOW, AINT NOBODY SEEIN SOME REAL CASH. U COULD WORK FOR $10.00 AN HOUR AT 40 A WEEK AND TARE 1600 A MONTH BY WORKIN A 9 TO 5. THATS ALMOST $20,000 A YEAR! OR YOU COULD DROP ONE ALBUM A YEAR AND IF YOUR LUCKY YOU COULD SELL 1 OR 2,000 UNITS AT $5 A POP AND MAKE $5,000 TO $10,00 A YEAR! WHOOPTY FUCKIN DOO! AFTER PAYIN FOR PRODUCTION, STUDIO TIME, MASTERING, GRAPHIC DESIGN, PROMOS, MANUFACTURING AND MAYBE A FEW FEATURES? DO THE MATH. ITS NOT THAT GREAT! AND PEOPLE WANNA COMPLAIN ABOUT SHOOTIN $300 FOR A VERSE! THE MONEY OFFERED IS OUT OF RESPECT FOR SOME ONES TALENT, THAT SHOULDNT BE FOR SOME ONE TO NEGOTIATE. OTHER WISE YOU COULD GET SOME BULLSHIT FOR $50. ( U GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR)
MY BILLS ARE AT $4,000 A MONTH, I GOT MOUTHS TO FEED JUST LIKE ALOT OF US.

JUST WANTED TO GET MY POINT ACROSS, YOU COULD FEEL IT OR NOT. WHO CARES. LIKE I SAID WE DO THIS FOR OUR SUPPORTERS, YA'LL KEEP US GOIN. MUCH LUV TO YA'LL AND YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!
