There actually are people living off of music. Not luxuriously, but nonetheless, living off of strickly their music game. Homeboy or not, everybody is worth their time. Just cuz i'm a homie, and there is a homie rapper, dont mean he has to do a verse for me based on. Most homeboy rappers expect homie rappers to drive to their city, spend their own gas, maybe put in on the liquor if there is any, ect., and still deliver a free verse while never really knowing these people on a personal basis, but they aint willing to pay a lil for the homie taking time out of their day. I guess even i was guilty of this when I was staring out. As you start making better music and you start working with artists that are actually known for their music and youre a homie, it usually becomes a favor for a favor. It even works that way for the non homie rappers and singers. Seldom have i seen a money exchange. There are new rappers poppin up everyday...majority will never put a project out so most "known" rappers consider that a waste of time. Just being real. Least that's what i'm told. You should be able to compensate someone for their time and for their work if they are worthy of being solicited to be on your album. I'm not saying with money, but you'd be suprised what they will take. Just a quick example, i dont just give out Casper Loc, or Goldtoes or Lil Raider verses just cuz people are homies, or give homies "free" studio time because they are homies....its a business just in the same manner as the homies who dont give out "free" weed to other homies. That would be make no sense. However, being a homie, can have its perks. Just play your cards right and you can work with pretty much anybody that you like to listen to these days. Whats sad is that most latin rappers are quick to pay the black rappers (no disrespect). Usually its a couple hundred dollars. We should be helping out our own come up. I believe this is a reason why there really aint no homie rapper who has grown to a more mainstream level. We simply just dont allow it.
