Are you currently taking any meds? Or have you had any prescribed to you in the past?

Zoloft along with a low dose of Xanax has truly been a life-saver for me.

I gradually weened off the Xanax, and only take (.5mg) as a precaution (e.g., right before a midterm, job interview, etc) once every few weeks.

I haven't had a panic attack in the past 6 months or so. I always carry the Xanax with me everywhere I go, though. Just knowing I have it by my side prevents me from worrying/anticipating a panic attack. If I start to get that light-headed/hot feeling that usually precedes a panic attack, I take the Xanax, and within 10-20 minutes I'm cooler than a polar bear's toe nail. But like I've mentioned, I hardly have to actually TAKE it, just having it with me (as a just in-case sort of a thing) is enough.

To the original poster:

If you suffer another panic attack, please DO NOT WAIT and see a doctor. I waited too long, and developed Panic Attack Disorder (I suffered 1-4 full blown panic attacks per day for about 6months) and as a result developed a severe case of Social Phobia (which often goes hand-in-hand with Panic Attack Disorder).

It is possible you only suffered from one episode, and it will not happen again. However, I repeat if it happens again, please see a doctor and don't wait until it begins to take over your life!
I got a job interview on thursday does xanax really help. Im going to hit up the lil homie and see if he can plug one.

The med are good but like he said^^be ready for the zombie world where you really dont give a fuck about anything. I felt like I didnt care about anything when on the meds so I quit and the attacks came back but I feel like I have feeling for things agin. This is a hard subjec6t to talk about because you feel soo week and vonerbile and uncontrolled but you should prolly go to the doc to see whats up. Plus I did a ton of thizz like 10 years ago and my doc said that has alot to do with it because my sarotonin was really low good luck with it

That is like saying someone can control auto-immune disorders by changing their perspective.
yes... yes it is.

Most panic attacks are not brought on by a particular fear of something but rather caused by a temporarily imbalance of hormones that isn't necessarily related to anything other than a neurological disorder that causes a body to release too many hormones at an unusual times.
"Panic attacks are commonly linked to agoraphobia and the fear of not being able to escape a bad situation. Many who experience panic attacks feel trapped and unable to free themselves."
all fear is based on ignorance, and the feeling of being trapped or unable to free oneself is limited by ones ignorance of his self.

interpret it as you like, cuz there is no going about trying to understand me until you put my statements to your own tests, rather than adopt another (primitive) social standard from a school book.

all experiences one has and interprets are always limited to the conditioning of ones mind, most likely inherited from a social "norm".
To me, these are all stages of ones consciousness, and one can always go beyond them.

yeah man the shit sucks i get them every so often usually when i'm really really high, thats why i quit smoking dank for a long time. I started getting them after one time when i was on coke i seriously thought i was gonna die after that i never fucked with blow again. I hardly ever have them when i'm sober though i only got one sober once or twice and it was managable. unfourtunatly the only solution to them aside from medications that i refuse to take that i've found is drinking alcahol.
this is hella like my story. The shit sucks. I barely ever smoke trees anymore becuase of it, which is gay. Ive been able to manage them pretty well though. For me anxiety comes out of no where and will start when you start saying in your head, "Im feeling anxious or Im having an attack." Ive never had the physical sympots that the first poster described, that sounds horrible. For me whenever I have an attack I have anxiety really bad for a few days and it slows goes pretty much away. Basically this shit sucks.

Panic attack just means you really high

nooooow if you get them sober... you got issues

Please refrain from posting ignorance.

As far as the argument, on whether panic attacks are caused by psychological issues or neurological issues:

It is pretty much a combination of both! Nature AND nurture. The two go hand in hand. Built up stress/fear overtime (conditioning), may cause you to become more fearful/paranoid, as a result your autonomic nervous system begins to produce more stress related hormones (e.g., cortisol), your fright or flight reflex is increased, and you arn't able to come down as you normally would, and instead are always alert. Your serotonin levels decrease, and so on and so on.

It could also work the other way around. For example, as a result of substance abuse/vitamin depletion, your hormone levels are thrown out of whack, which results in you becoming more fearful/paranoid, and more prone to anxiety/mood disorders.

i had a 5 hour panic attack one time.. it sucked real bad.

Since then though i've learned how to deal with and control stress/anxiety/panic attacks.. required alot of reading and researching.

One thing i always recommend to people when they're stressed out real bad is: take a deep ass breath through your nose, then exhale out of your mouth making the exhale longer than the inhale.... tell me that shit doesnt feel good?

I'm glad you're going to see a doctor right away! I waited too long, and suffered. I wasn't able to work, and eventually got let go. I couldn't concentrate in school, from the fear and anticipation of constant attacks. I would literally have an attack, the minute I set foot in class (hence why I developed Agoraphobia/Social Phobia). I ended up dropping out of school for a while, which set me back a lot.

The smartest thing you could do at this point, is see a doc and prevent it from getting out of control. Best of luck to you bro! You'll be just fine, I'm sure!

yea, ive been switching between 50 and 100 mgs of zoloft for 2 years...ive had all the pain pills they give out for them...didnt do shit but just give me another drug to get addicted to lol...i quit smoking weed for a while too...ive been through the not wanting to go out faze.....panic attacks are NOT the biz.

best advice i can give ya is get prescribed zoloft and join zombie world with me.
Personally, I've never experienced the 'zombie' side-effect. One doesn't really feel the effects of Zoloft right away (in comparison to Xanax, which calms me down within 20min, for example) it takes weeks/months for it to slowly start increasing your levels of Serotonin. I've been on Zoloft for the past 6 months, and the only effect I've noticed is that I'm no longer depressed, and my agoraphobia has gone away for the most part. I also attribute that to Xanax though, as I always keep it with me just in case of a panic attack.

If I take Xanax, it calms me down, makes me feel more confident. Nothing zombie like, either. In fact, I would often take it right before class, and I was able to concentrate and study just fine! If anything, it even improved my study ethics/concentration level, because I was no longer side tracked by the constant anxiety and fear of panic attacks. You do get somewhat sleepy after a few hours if you're not doing anything active. I sometimes take .5mg of Xanax if I can't sleep, for example. Which works great!

Have you ever tried Xanax? It is not in the same group as SSRI's (e.g., Zoloft, Prozac, etc). It does not have the side-effects of the anti-depressants. The only downfall of the drug, is the addiction. You have to be careful to not get carried away while taking it. And once you feel as if you no longer need it, you gradually ween off it, otherwise you may experience some withdrawal symptoms.

Good luck to you as well!

ah man, thats crazy so many people have had them. I had my first full blown one like a month ago. That shit was scary... it really does feel like your heart is gunna stop, I thought I was gunna die too. I swear that must be how it feels when you know your bout to die. That is wack they never go away tho, at least next time I will know what is happening an it wont be so scary.

i had 4 n half hour anxiety attack after a test last monday , i felt like running out of the room and hitting the first person i see , but i sat their in class , quietly losing my mind lol

ah man i had one last year during class.. i just laid there with my head down during a lecture moving my legs and just trying to calm myself down.. i was sitting to the far end of the class so i couldnt just jolt outta there.

theres this non-prescription medication called seredyn thats supposed to be effective, its natural and no side effects.

Part of overcoming panic attacks/anxiety as weird as it sounds is welcoming the panic attack and letting your mind/the attack know that you notice its there but youre not gonna fight it or give it attention. You start to build an immunity to it and the discomfort you once felt is no longer there because you sort of built immunity to the feelings.. hard to do but once you do it its cake.

yeah....i was pretty fucking insane back then.

buddhism helped me. and lsd.

if you ever get a chance, read a book called 'footsteps on a diamond path'

that and meditation probably stopped me from going down a really evil path in life

im not free of anxiety attacks, i still feel like i cant breathe from time to time..but at this point in life i realize its mind over matter and if im gonna die, im just gonna die. aint worth fussin and flippin out over.

drugs make me have panic attacks...except marijuana...it used to...but thats only when i quit for a while..

most EVERYONE always says "drugs" triggered my anxiety attack... that's a easy fix, don't want panic attacks change what your body consumes... and a lot of it is mental, you can check yourself most times.

The difference is there's are some people out and about while sober can get panic attacks. Those people are the ones that have the problem. Not the person who gets really high, gets paranoid, gets buzzing in his ears and thinks he gonna die from a heart attack
