I know alot of the older folks that make beats like to hate on software. Now that i'm exposed to alot of different producers, i noticed that 90% of the beatmakers i know are using software. 2 of the dudes i know use a combination of both only because they had the keyboard and MPC first. Some of the other dudes i met have their MPC's in the back under junk and other shit collecting dust. It surprises the hell out of me.

What about yall. How many people do u know still make beats with just hardware with no software involved at all?

I think a combination of both is the best way to go now a days. I mean they can go hand n hand. Even if your a hardware dude, it's pretty nice when you can have a big @ss monitor in front of you and sequencer your $hit. Software can provide a better visual aspect I suppose and organization for those with hardware. Yet hardware provides that hands-on feel that so many love. I personally use nothing but software aside from my midi controller, I find it the most efficient for ME. I guess it's up to your style, I have no problems using a software synth/effect, sequencer and fiddling with it by looking at the screen, yet some peeps will rather fiddle around with knobs, sliders and all that shit with their hands so they like the feel of hardware in that case. So I think it all boils down to software providing a nice visual aspect and organization, yet Hardware provides that "authentic" hands on feel.

use what works for you. Only real reason i want an mpc is to do my sequencing in and to put in the tracks through the analog outs into PT or whatever to get a different sound. I'll probably still revert to reason and other software at times even if i had an mpc though since i have gigs of sounds in reason that can only be used in a limited fashion in an mpc. I love the feel of the mpc too, pad controllers even the akai ones dont have that true feel of the pads. I'm a visual type though but that shit works in the hardware world too, you got a sexy piece of gear with hella knobs and buttons and faders you are gonna have alot of fun with it.

how many of the ones you know actually make a living at it?
If it aint broke dont fix it...Its not so much that the ones using hardware dont wanna switch its there is really no need to,if you got some tight synths/samplers/mpc whatever besides consolidation of equipment whats the big benefit? You cant say that hardware sound is inferior.

Hardware is essential and IMO Software is also very essential. Does one need some sort of hardware? Yes, in most cases. And software? Yes. They work BRILLIANT together, so why not use both?

In the end it boils down to preference.

I have hardware controllers to control my software, see it is a must have. You ever hear peoples beats who dont have a midi keyboard? most of em suck cuz they arent using their software to its full potential. One problem is alot of hardware designed to control software are built cheap and shitty and you have to drop some serious coin to get quality gear

No one from my crew makes any money off of music. We're really just startiing. I've been rappin for about 5 or 6 years but i never made any cd's or anything serious. We're all in the military so its pretty hard to stick to it since we're always getting sent to Iraq and Afghanistan. We'll be back in the lab inna couple of weeks and we'll join the competition of the unsigned.

only thing i like about hardware vs the software i use is the fact that the quantize is usually better at lining up where you really want it to and the playbacc will sound closer to what you actually played....im pretty good at quantizing my beats now in fruity loops 7 but its more work cuz it never rreally gets the shit exactly how you want it.....but then again the advantage with that is i have a piano roll where i can easily edit the part i dont like.....

i have way more sounds on my comp at my arsenal rather than the limited number that comes in hardware....i can always add all kinds of sounds without paying a big ass amount of money for an expansion pacc...i can also add all kinds of different formats and there are converters for sounds from hardware i can use to get those sounds as well.......

and best of all most my software was absolutely free lol.....

when i hear stuff made from keyboards or what not i can tell. Especially if they're made from keyboards alone. They do sound kinda funny. When software is used the beats sound alot cleaner. I know that metallic sound u talkin about 50cal. My cousin Mac hears that shit too. What he would is add a vinyl sound to it. Now that sound or bassline sounds like it was sampled from a record, know what i mean? This mutherfucker is crazy. Alot of people that i hear that use FL studio and Reason sample alot. I never heard ur stuff yet Cctyzo Loc. But i'll definately listen to it when i get back. Thats what me and the homies do. We listen to fools thats tryin to put their names out there. We also like to compare our stuff with theirs. I think i heard Epik's shit before. I like his shit cuz it sounds like he made it from scratch. This was about a 6 months ago though. I cant listen to anything form this Gov't computer. Everthing is blocked.

Yeah as I said he has great beats..but I cant technically describe intelligently what I dont like....however maybe if the sounds were all run through some plug ins/or outboard gear it may make a big difference.Maybe is it that its so clean that there appears to be alot of space between all the sounds? Is it missing harmonic distortion?..maybe I should quit cause im getting deeper into the unknown..
