Gran Turismo 5 will feature weather effects, stunt arenas, kart racing and – most excitingly – a track editor according to comments by Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Worldwide Studios.

"Not only will Gran Turismo 5 deliver an even more comprehensive set of cars and courses than gamers saw with previous iterations, it will also feature new game-enhancing graphical effects such as damage, night racing and weather," Yoshida told the official PlayStation site.

"These innovations are twinned with the option to join millions of like-minded individuals globally within the Gran Turismo community and to find a driving experience to suit," he continued, "Whether that is taking on the Top Gear test track, chucking cars around stunt arenas, go-karting, creating and sharing your own track or intense head-to-head races. Who, where and what to drive is completely down to the individual."

Exciting stuff, though it seems strange that such features were held back for what was, 3D aside, a subdued showing for Gran Turismo 5 at last week's E3. Could it be a slip of the tongue or confirmation of a feature set that would redefine the series? We've reached out to Sony for confirmation.

Words almost cannot describe how much I hate the GT series of games. They may pride themselves on real sound effects and visual accuracy when it comes to car detail, but most of the cars on there do not handle as a "simulation" to their real world handling.

And not all cars come with 286hp from the factory.

I bought GT3 and was severely disappointed in what I was sold.

Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed once more as Sony announces it is to miss its November release date.

"We sincerely apologize to GT fans for the delay," explained the official US PlayStation blog, "however, creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating the perfect racing experience, and we are confident that this ambitious game will exceed expectations when it launches."

Gran Turismo 5 was slated for a release on November 2 in the US and November 5 in the UK. Sony has since confirmed that the delay is global, with its European outlet saying it hopes to reveal a new date before the end of the month and that it's to see a release before Christmas.

We recently took Gran Turismo 5 for what we thought would be a final spin before its launch.

I'll say this...

I played pt1 late...

Bought GT2 when it first came out..

played GT3 when it came out...

bought GT4 soon after its release...

and out of all those when it comes to handling and changin the characteristics of the car and actually feelin AND seein the difference on the track GT2 did that IMO hands down..

GT3 is the total opposite to GT2. GT3 cars look really good but handle like your average arcade game..(pissed me off)

I think GT4 remedies that problem a bit but mostly in the behind the steering wheel view. (I like lookin at the car)

Cant wait for GT5!!!!!!!!!!!!
