They don't want to see that happen (Raiders potentially drafting a franchise qb).

Correction.. As someone who hates the raiders, I'd rather see them draft a QB than acquire one who can come in and win.

Your squad drafting a QB means nothing but another 2-3 losing seasons sor sure, plus the fact that he might end up being a bust and bring the team down for another 5-10 years..

Use your head before you make your lame ass comments.

So did this apply to the 49ers when they drafted Alex Smith?

Well let's see..

The Niners drafted Alex Smith 2 years ago.. The last 2 seasons have been losing seasons.. Uhhhh.. YES. There was a chance he could bust, and they had 2 losing seasons. Your squad is looking at the same fuckin thing.

But there's a big difference.. The Niners made many moves to make their team better. Your squad hasn't done much of anything. If you think drafting a fuckin QB is gonna solve all of your problems, you're on crack. The Niners drafted Alex and they addressed many, many issues to get where they are now. Not to mention the Niners' front office and coaching staff is way better than the raiders'..

You need to stop comparing everything to Alex Smith and the Niners. Shit is not the same. The situation is completely different. You clowns had your shot at several good veteran QBs who are still young, and you missed out.

Fatal, I think the situation is similar... You guys had the number one pick going into the draft, I think it was Mike Nolan's first year as head coach.

Same with the Raiders.... we have the number one pick and we also have a new coach.

The only difference is our defense is still pretty good and we have a good group of receivers.... so we don't need to rebuild.

I don't think drafting a qb will solve all the Raiders problems but it's a step in the right direction to help solve them. When was the last time the Raiders had a franchise qb as their signal caller? It doesn't make sense to keep signing qb's like Collins, Brooks, Carr, etc... these are stop gap qb's. New coach, new system (offensive and blocking scheme), and new Qb (fresh out of college) is what the Raiders need in my opinion.

So as a 49er fan do you feel that drafting Alex Smith with the first overall pick was the right move? Or do you think they should have signed a free agent qb and used that first round overall pick for something else?

Yeah we do. Hopefully they'll address the o-line with the 33rd pick overall (I think that's our second round pick). Some good linemen should still be available. I think the Raiders are looking at some free agent from Denver. I don't know his name though...

My bad, this is true. The difference is the raiders have the talent, but they won't perform. They all go to Oakland and underachieve. The Niners just didn't have the talent at all. That's kinda what I was getting at when I said the situations are different. SF knew they needed to address their problems, the raiders don't seem to think the same. On paper you wouldn't think they would need to, but that organization needs revamping regardless because the talent they have doesn't get shit done.

The Niners had a pretty good defense as well, but all that changed with injuries. And your group of receivers looks good on paper, but they don't perform. You can't blame it on the QBs now, because during the season you guys were blaming it on the receivers.

That organization needs to start new with fresh blood. Get rid of some of that wasted talent and get some new guys in there who will perform all the time. Drafting a QB is a step, but I don't know if it's the right step. Acquiring a free agent QB might have been smarter because it would have allowed you guys to draft the closest thing to a "sure thing" in Calvin Johnson (I know you might not think you need another receiver, but like I said before, your current WRs couldn't get SHIT done). Also you guys were all wet over Andrew Walter last year (blaming his poor play on everyone but him) so why not give him a chance with a better line and a better situation? There's many things they could have done that would have probably been smarter than drafting a QB.

Probably the last time they went to the SuperBowl with Rich Gannon. I don't think he was that good, but he was good enough to get the job done and that would be considered a franchise QB.

Carr is better than Collins and Brooks, and he can be a franchise QB. He has more potential.

That particular year, yes, it was the right move.

If it were this year.. With David Carr available and the chance to draft a guy like Calvin Johnson, then I would think drafting him with the number one overall pick would be stupid because they could have filled that gap with a young veteran and addressed other issues.

Same thing with last year. If they didn't have Alex I'd say they get Reggie Bush and pursue Drew Brees just like the Saints did.

@ Solitary.. Save your money.

Wait until the season gets near and I can make a better prediction of your team's outcome. If I still feel your squad will go 2-14, then I will bet you.

There would have been similar confusion on your part if I had said 2-14 last season as well, but look what happened.

So save it.

Not necessarily, but with a rookie QB in there I think it's very possible. I was thinking more along the lines of 4-12, 5-11 at best, but if you guys draft J. Russell and throw him in there right away I doubt you will do that well.

You might have a better chance playing Andrew Walter if you draft Russell, at least give the rookie a chance to learn the ropes before you feed him to the lions.
