@Heresy......remind me to have you do my studio press release when I go commercial....lol. I feel you...but it's easier said than done though.

Ya'll are missing a big point I made earlier though. This whole area is on some other shit right now. Like I said.....the Usher (you know....one of the biggest artists out this year) tour ain't comin' any closer than Oakland. Why is that? Because the NW is full of what they call "B Markets." Basically the Usher tour is just hittin' the "A" markets.....which obviously didn't include any city in the NW.....in particular Seattle. Are you kidding me? The Puget Sound area has easily 1.5 million people! They're cancelling all kinds of semi-major shows because of poor promotions.....poor ticket sales and basically just an overall lack of support from people in the area.

What in the hell is goin' on????

what are ushers sales like in your area?

D-sane I'm gonna let you in on what we have been doing for the past couple of weeks. Trying to get the artist name on COMPLIMENTARY PRODUCTS ***AND*** getting deeply involved with record pools. I see that simply getting a flyer or promo poster means NOTHING. ok so we have a flyer but so do trillions of other rappers. How can that flyer be implemented with the music? How does that flyer tie into the music and whats going on inside the cd? How does that flyer generate LEADS which transform to SALES?

Why ship here or there if your shit aint in the stores in that market? Why get a distribution deal thats nationwide when you wont tour the east coast to promote the album? Quick question how come NW artist never do shows in the bay area? You can ship flyers here and the cd doesn't have to be in the stores. Well how can they still get the cd? BUY DIRECT FROM YOU AT THE WEBSITE and make them feel comfortable with web purchases. Call toll free, mail your check or money order and even get a refund if you arent satisfied with the purchase.

ALL of what I'm saying is what I'm CURRENTLY doing or plan to do within the next few months. I've devoted all my money (I wont buy any more gear until LATE 2005) and time to going this route.
Another thing to consider is when these acts come to the nw does any networking go down? When the Federation went to seattle I asked my nephew if he saw street level records. He said yes but didn't hear any material or meet anyone from street level. Why arent ya'll in cali?

:hgk:

ps the radio station WON'T play shit unless they are getting those free packages, money, funding etc etc etc from the MAJOR labels who NEED those spins in those markets.

I wish everyone the best. What it's going to take is cats really getting out in the streets and promoting their music and doing the things that it takes to sell your music. There is no proven formula for success out here in this music business. Viva La Northwest.

Get in the game and do the ACTUAL things that it takes to succeed, and once you fail, then complain about not making it. Get on the road, do the street promo, spend some money on advertising, make appearances at the local hot spots, contact local publications for reviews, secure distribution, and finally, network with people outside the region that can acutally help you progress in your music career.

Alot of people out here in the NW aren't doing these things, and think that success and album sales will just fall out the sky, land on your face and start to wiggle. Let's be real about it. It takes REAL hard work to make it. And there are alot of cats that are making music for their homies, or music that won't go any further then the NW. And if you tell them that they will label you a hater. Step your game up, put in the work, and then call me in the morning.

You young Jedi Knights must get it together. You can't win the war without your X-Wing fighter being in proper fighting condition. Hollar.

It all comes down to 2 people at KUBE.....the head Program Director ERIC POWERS and his assistant KAREN WILD. Ultimately though.....it comes down to ERIC POWERS because he's the shot caller. HE is the one who decides IF and WHO gets played from our local Hip-Hop community. HE is the one to blame for the lack of support from KUBE.(quote)

I just read a article in ROLLING STONES magazine...and CLEAR CHANNEL is to blame...really...clear channel owns something like 75% of the radio market...and powers and wild dont really have a say...they interviewed the clear channel owner and he flat out said...HE DOESNT CARE ABOUT THE MUSIC...all he cares about is the advertising dollars...he flat out said that shit...ima try to find the article

Of course he said that and it shouldn't come as a shock to anyone! Do you think the makers of Yu-Gi Oh! give a fuck about Yu-Gi Oh!? Hell no, it's simply a means created to generate a profit.

I completely understand how some of you feel about Clear Channel and the truth of the situation. I don't however think very many of you understand the full scope of things, especially from the business point-of-view but for that matter I don't expect you to. Most of the comments I see made in regards to Eric Powers just proves that not very many people know what they're talking about, or even have a clue.

Are you talkin' to me? Sayin' that I don't know what I'm talkin' about when it comes to Eric Powers? How many meetings have you sat in on with him?? How many songs have YOU had in rotation on KUBE? I personally know ALL of the people who have had songs in rotation on KUBE....me being one of them. Eric DOES have the power to put people in motion on that station. He may have to clear it with Clear Channel nowadays since they took over.....but if he wants to put somebody into rotation on KUBE.....it WILL happen. Byrdie's new song is a perfect example. They (Byrdie and his management) took Eric out to dinner and buttered him up......he took a liking to Byrdie....now he's gettin' Byrdie on every event they're doin'. Not to mention the spins he's gettin' now with that song that NOBODY likes and them stupid-ass commercials he's doin' too.

I don't know who YOU know at KUBE.....but I'm very good friends with several people that work there and have been for a while. They tell me what goes on behind the scenes all the time. I'm not speculating about anything....I'm spittin' facts.

You ask me??? I think it's about time to organize the troops and post up in front of KUBE 93 until they give in to our demands. But ain't nobody gonna do shit. Everybody would rather be passive.....sit at home playing PS2....smokin' weed.....drinkin'.....tryin' to fuck some bitches and COMPLAINING about the problem instead of doin' somethin' about it.

In order to go to war.....you must know your enemy. I have named that enemy. I have offered a battle plan that has worked in the past. Now what?
lets make it happen.. it will help everyone from the NW with their music.. i HONESTLY think that EVERY label or orginization or whatever has AT LEAST ONE radio cut if not more.. i've heard plenty from SLR, UTR, N flight, ESR, Undercaste.. the list can go on... we need to take what d-sane just said and actually try and organize something like that

man you know as well as everyone that maybe 10 people would show up. and if they did give in they would play a song for a month, everyone would cream their shorts and they wont play another one for another 5 years.

in all honesty, who really deserves to be played on kube that hasnt already been played? not saying that everyone who has deserves it straight out but maybe in a round about way.

Quick note to D-Sane...

I wasn't talking about anyone specifically, it was a general statement because it applies to probably 99% of the people who speak on this topic. You either fall into that 99% it applies to or the 1% it doesn't. Either way it doesn't change the truth in what I said in another thread. The radio broadcasting industry is not a public service supplied to you by the government and paid for you by your tax dollars. Why do you think it was deregulated in the first place?

I'm sure you know this already D-Sane but to those of you who are confused and just don't seem to get this straight, let me make it perfectly clear to you:

Clear Channel has NO OBLIGATION to adhere or even respond to the demands of any local voice in any region. You can not force KUBE (for example) to play your music any more than you can walk into your local Best Buy (for example) and force them to stock your product.

Now to answer a couple of your questions D-Sane... Have I had songs in rotation on KUBE? Yes, several. Did I have to meet with Eric Powers or take anyone to dinner to make it happen? No. I deal with people higher up on the food chain than PD's so things arn't quite the same for me. I have been on that side of the fence however, struggling like a mutha fucka so yes I understand everything about how you feel. Probably more than anyone else considering I've been doing music my entire life, literally.

I'm not saying people don't make strong points. I'm not saying things couldn't be better & more supportive of the local talent in any region. I'm not saying I disagree with what's been said. I agree with a lot of it, BUT business is business and it doesn't matter whether or not you hate it. Protest, complain, boycott, do whatever you feel you need to... Just understand that the nature of business is not going to change.
